HAVEN BAR

Recommended Posts

My brother will be in a haven courtyard penthouse on the Breakaway.  We will be in a club balcony.  Are we allowed to go with my brother to the haven lounge and take our drinks back to his cabin or actually drink with him at the bar?

You are allowed visit your brother's cabin no problem.  Stopping by the Haven bar for drinks first to take to the cabin probably would not be an issue but in theory is not allowed.  But it falls into that grey area.  Non-Haven are not allowed to use the Haven facilities but allowed to visit a Haven cabin.  I bet you could do it without an issue.  It would depend whether Haven bar staff are allowed to serve non-Haven guests.  Have your brother speak with the concierge and grease the skids.  You can visit your brother at the Haven restaurant for dinner but its going to charge you.   If you pay for a dinner at the Haven restaurant I bet you could hang out at the Haven bar but this all comes down to the concierge.

However there is nothing stopping you from getting drinks from an outside bar and walking to your brother's cabin.

No.

The Haven is for the exclusive use of people who pay for it. Not guests.

You are not allowed in the Haven Bar or Haven Lounge. You are not allowed in the Haven Courtyard or Haven Sundeck. You are allowed in the Haven Restaurant with the advance approval of the Concierge and your brother will need to pay for your meals there.

If you show up at the Haven Bar, they are not allowed to accept your room key for payment (i.e., Drinks Package) and are suppose to escort you out of the Haven.

Your brother could drop you in his room and get drinks for you (he can order 2 drinks at a time).

He can join you at any other bar/lounge on the ship so an easy solution

They will not and absolutely should not serve him.

Mmm…. I was on the joy in the haven for 15 day  and friends of a couple that openly admit that they were there with their friends staying in the haven  almost everyday - they did not eat with them just at the bar

If I knew there were non-Haven in there I might have a problem with that.  I pay a substantial premium to stay in the Haven and I wouldn't like it if they allowed just anybody in there. (No offense to any outside people.  Sometimes I'm one of you!)

I tend to agree.  This is our first Haven purchase although we did get to experience a few of the perks by staying in a suite last year (having escorts, breakfast in Cagney's, etc,). It has never crossed our minds as cruisers to enter the Haven area (or similar areas on other lines) as there is a specific reason that those guests choose to pay extra for that level of seclusion and privacy. It's not a snobbery issue but more of a desire for a little more space and quiet around you during the trip. This is increasingly nice for us as a couple as we get older. I would also add that some of our favorite meals and wines have been experienced in the "complimentary" restaurants like Savor. There are tons of great bars on board- no need to crash a facility/area you have not paid for.

NO ONE is condoning or is advancing the idea friends of Haven guests for using Haven facilities.  That is not the OP's position.  Its easy for so many to chime in and say NO NO NO.  However NCL allows Haven guests to escort their non-Haven friends around the Haven back to their cabin.  NCL allows non-Haven to photograph the Haven too.  The OP wants to drink in his room with his guests.  To fully prevent non-Haven from even asking this question should they not be banned completely from even taking a tour of the Haven?  NCL cannot even keep children out of adult Haven hot tubs or the adult only Haven sundeck.  NCL walks a fine line to not disrespect Haven guests thus don't want to patrol the adult only sundeck or tell children of the Haven to get out of the hot tubs.  Every Haven bar I have seen is always empty.  The reviews of Prima and Viva state the Haven lounge is a ghost town.  I am playing devil's advocate but the Haven guest paid for access and is allowed to bring guests to his room.  They are walking past the Haven bar to the cabin.  I cant imagine the Haven bartender saying no.  However this is NOT my personal opinion. Personally I would banish everyone that is not paying for the Haven from the Haven.  However my posts here are realistic because stuff like this happens all the time.  First day on Encore the concierge explained we were allowed to bring non-Haven guests to the restaurant TWICE during the week for a charge.  NCL is trying to walk that fine line to please everyone.  But when some point out this reality they get accused on this board of somehow advocating for non-Haven to use Haven facilities.   If they are allowed to dine in the Haven (pay for the meal) twice in one week than why would they not be allowed to drink one night (paying for the drinks).   Its not my opinion, its reality.  Is it the end of the world a brother of a Haven guest paid for a drink and walked into his brother's Haven cabin and drank it?  I want to live in that perfect black and white world too.  But its not reality.  The truth is there are no Haven *** guards nor does NCL want them.  NCL is always trying to invite non-Haven to the Haven.  They give away Haven meals all the time to vloggers who do not pay for the Haven.  Did not NCL invite non-Haven Joy suites to the Haven?  Remember when NCL was going to allow the entire ship to buy NCL Haven access at the restaurant and then changed because of blow back. NCL invites non-Haven guests to share Posh which used to be exclusively Haven.  People should not be attacking the OP.  They should take their concerns up with NCL because this is what they have always done.

For the record, I have never invited any outside person to the Haven nor do I advocate for it.

Someone encouraged bad behavior by saying "I bet you could do it without an issue.  It would depend whether Haven bar staff are allowed to serve non-Haven guests.  Have your brother speak with the concierge and grease the skids.  You can visit your brother at the Haven restaurant for dinner but its going to charge you.   If you pay for a dinner at the Haven restaurant I bet you could hang out at the Haven bar but this all comes down to the concierge."

dont want to rain on anyone's parade, but this question has been previously discussed ad nauseum in  prior posts. while i personally dont care, the haven is a specially designated area of the ship, and people have paid to be there. same as if your brother is seated in 1st class, even if there are numerous empty seats, most of the time the flight attendants wont allow someone in economy to move up there (although on an airplane) the attendant does have the discretion to do so. i imagine for a one time deal, the concierge might allow it, but probably not for the entire cruise.

BTW, a $20 bill wouldnt hurt your chances

There is no security or pass checking to get into the Haven areas - you could piggyback off someone going in or coming out.  If you go in with your brother there is no access check.

Similarly - who cares if you go into his cabin?

Next - the touchy part here seems to be grabbing a drink at the Haven bar and bringing it to his room . . . .you are aware that the Haven guest can get two drinks at a time, right?

Next again, I'm sure if your brother tips the Haven bartender on Day 1 [$20 I'd recommend] that you should have zero problem practically getting a drink - if you have a drink plan and you get a drink at the haven bar - who cares? Give them your card and off you go.

No one is suggesting you eat at the haven restaurant or partake of Haven only amenities but the Haven bar is the same as any other bar - right?

No, the Haven bar is exclusively for Haven guests just as the Haven restaurant is exclusively for Haven guests. If the concierge allows the non-Haven brother access to the bar, the restaurant, etc., it is at the discretion of the concierge. It is not up to Haven guests to take it upon themselves to allow non-Haven guests access to the Haven amenities.

When we were on the Breakaway, a couple who were not Haven guests walked in without knowing it was a private area, my guess is the door was propped open which we saw several times on that trip  The woman was in the hot tub with us and asked the waiter for a drink.   She gave him her card.  He came back a few minutes later and politely explained that she was in a private area and asked her to leave.

After she left, the waiter came back and asked if we had invited her.  We explained that we didn't know her.  I'm guessing if we had said we knew her he would have stipulated that the Haven was only for Haven guests.
