I went to the medical center and saw a nurse. He tested me for Covid and said he would only charge me for the test which was $38. My dh saw on our folio a charge for $93. Any one know why?  I have to wait till tomorrow to call as medical is closed now.

Also, doe Princess still reimburse for the days in isolation?  I think I am only in isolation till my fever is gone but not sure. I will have to check tomorrow.

Sorry to hear you have covid.  That probably is the test and the medical center visit.

I’d call in the morning and question.  They came to our cabin to test us, no charge.

Make sure to get a copy of your test result and a letter from the medical center that shows you are quarantined.

Wait to see if you still have a fever first.

You will need this for insurance.

It was still on the website when I checked last.  Under PVP Princess insurance.  Not sure if they still do it for other insurances.  But, if you bought insurance, then you can submit it to them. Losing a day or whatever of your cruise, prorated and any medical expenses.  Also, call GS and ask them.

Let us know how you are and get well soon.

Sorry you got it, hoping it’s mild and uncomplicated. Hubby and I had two visits from the Covid virus. In Dec. 22 (on Regal) he turned positive, got 5 days isolation, minimal symptoms and was fine. Without requesting, Princess did give him FCC for the 5 days of isolation.  Fast forward to this year on

S American cruise in Feb. (on Sapphire) I turned positive, was isolated for 3 days, got no FCC. It was like Covid not a big deal anymore. Hubby was checked on daily by medical center, when I got it, nobody from med ctr. called until the third day when they said I was released from isolation. Serious relaxation of policy.

These days Covid is pretty much the same as other URIs. The cruise lines have dropped the restrictions and getting reimbursed for quarantine days is pretty much a matter of your travel insurance.

You should have received an itemized receipt when you left the medical center stating charges.

Sorry you are ill and that the nurse gave you bad information but it's still worth calling to double check.  Princess does seem to be done with reimbursing for Covid and encourages insurance for that.

We disembarked the Discovery two weeks ago yesterday and a week later I tested positive too.  Unlike a year ago my fever subsided after a day and the rest of my symptoms were gone a couple days after that.  Just for grins I took another test today and am in the clear.  I hope you bounce back quickly and can enjoy some of your cruise.

It appears you probably contracted the virus during your travel to the ship.  Hopefully you have insurance to offset the time in isolation.  The days of free compensation for covid on the ship without insurance are long gone.

I do have insurance. I received an itemized bill under my door. The extra charges were for a flu test. Dh went down to the medical center and they took it off. They gave me a thermometer but it is no longer working. I guess I have to wait until 4pm when they open to let them know.

I’m sure I was exposed in London. We were there for 4 1/2 days and then took a train from Waterloo station to Southampton.

my co-worker's mom is in the hospital with covid now.... since the middle of last week.

Not talking about the illness itself only how the cruise lines are treating it. No forced testing, no mandatory visit to medical, no cruiseline coverage of isolation time. All that has gone away. As far as they are concerned the policy is no different then if you have a cold, the flu, or any number of other URIs.

Exactly this and I'd like to add no government legislation to adhere too either .  It is a virus we now live with and act accordingly like the old days , if you woke up feeling rubbish you stayed away from work , school, family etc. etc. and tucked yourself up in bed with fluids and meds. Of course there are always going to be those with underlying health issues, myself included ,  who suffer more than others but that was the case with the flu before Covid.

Except I am quarantined in my cabin till I am fever free for 24 hours. Medical had to escort me my cabin to make sure I went there.

Each Princess crew must be treating Covid differently.  I have had Covid 3 times (on our last 3 Regal Princess cruises) and each time it was treated differently.  First time I was taken to another deck and isolated for 5 days (I was reimbursed for those days); the next 2 times (again on the Regal) I tested myself and called the medical center and they basically said "ok well let us know if you need anything."  No follow up or restrictions.

Recently on the Emerald, staff told us they are working with Covid unless they have severe symptoms and are not required to wear a mask. If you report it, then you may or may not get quarantined. On the Emerald if someone tested positive AND reported it, they were quarantined for 24 hrs. They were allowed to get themselves back to their cabin in the regular elevator with any other guests who happened to be riding the elevator at that time. We had this happen twice on our cruise where someone who was supposed to be in isolation for 24 hrs, rode the elevator with us.  One person said they wished they had not even gone to medical and that they had no intention of going back to their cabin since there are no requirements anymore to isolate. So it seems to vary by ship.

That's why most do not go to medical. If you go you might get quarantined and hoping that your insurance covers it. Basically you surrender control to the medical department. We carry self test kits and a thermometer so we can self check.

FYI   Got flu on last cruise and in cabin for 3 days.  I did a chat on the app with crew and asked if I would be reimbursed. They said yes.  I took screenshot of conversation.  When I got home and called Princess for credit, they said they had no record.  I had to send medical report and copy of screenshot.  I got FCC for next cruise.

That is the problem response varies. Same as with Noro. If a number of people have it. Then they will do the quarantine reimbursement fcc to get people to go to medical. If you are the only one then you may or may not get it. Depends upon the ship. The policy is nolonger automatic universal reimbursement. As you demonstrate never hurts to ask.

In your case it was good that 1. someone on the ship said that they would reimburse and 2. You documented the chat conversation

Without either of those you would have been out of luck.

I first had a sore throat embarkation night. Next morning still had it. I tested myself and it was negative. By the afternoon I was tired. Unlike some of you I don’t want to pass this to others. We are also traveling with a cousin who is immune-compromised. Also you never know who you are near whom Covid could be devestating.

Thank you for thinking of others. Sorry you have been sick on your vacation. Hope no long term effects.
