Princess Premier No Longer Available to Book

 Share

Recommended Posts

Someone today reported that they sailed out of LA and didn't get charged for drinks consumed while docked.  They are on the Royal.

I know of a glitch with packages for casino bookings.  We have two cruises out of Fort Lauderdale.  For the first one I see that I can book both Plus and Premier.  For the second only Plus shows.  Apparently not all CVPs know the workaround to book Plus in this situation but the casino area can provide them with info to get it done.  Not sure if that's what other folks are running into but it's a possibility.

I am currently on the Grand in LA with the new Premier package and have been able to successfully use the package for drinks with no problem at all. Spoke to a crew member onboard selling packages and he confirmed all good to use the package as soon as stepping onboard. I immediately did the research to confirm his statement and happy to report he was correct. Also, just checked my folio and no drink charges appeared. If it changes, I will report back. Off to Hawaii!

Well to be fair the "rumor" originated when Princess added the language about not being able to use the Premier package until you're in International waters outside the specified states.  They seem to be adding quite a bit of perplexing language to their website lately.

I will bet you that they will sell it to you the minute you walk on board

Last year out of Galveston they did just that. The only beverage I could obtain before international waters was coffee sans alcohol

Funny, NCL is unlimited, and they sail out of many of the same ports listed above without issue.

You're correct.  Was on a repo cruise on the NCL Prima that went from Galveston to Miami.  While still in Texas, they had a limited bar service with Texas supplied liquors until we hit international waters but it was still unlimited either way.

That is Texas law and nothing to do with Princess

But everyone is able to use their packages. So what is the issue?

It has everything to do with Princess because of how Princess decides to react to the archaic Texas liquor law.  Carnival doesn't sell Cheers while in Galveston and only starts it on day two.  NCL does have their unlimited package out of Galveston immediately, but only with a limited choice package from Texas until you hit international waters, when the full bar is available.

The issue is new language causing angst for people not knowing what to expect when they get onboard.  Will they get their money's worth out of the Premier package?  Did Princess just put the language in with no intention of enforcing it?  Or will they just start enforcing it out of the blue?  They really need to do a better job of communicating this stuff but in the meantime I will just plan on buying our packages onboard.

actually it does. Texas requires tax stamps on all alcohol sold while in Texas waters. Princess could purchase all alcohol from a Texas distributor and serve whatever they like. Princess chooses not to. Carnival doesn't even start beverage packages until the next day.

But NCL does, I have multiple friends who have cruised out of Texas on NCL, they do not limit drinks at any time.

Fully aware of what NCL does.  If you reread the last sentence of my post, I have first hand experience on NCL out of Galveston on the Prima.  They never limit the amount of drinks and only serve a limited selection of Texas bought liquors until the ship reaches international waters on embarkation day.

Just checked my booking engine (TA here) and Premier is available to book on all ports leaving the "trouble" states. 🙂 Hope this helps.

Really.  To buy liquor from a Texas distributor Princess would need to have a Texas resident apply for a Texas liquor license and be on each ship.  Lots of rules for how many bars.  Each ship would need licenses - plural.  Then they would need to separate the liquor and beer for Texas from other booze.  With a dozen distributors very complicated.

Not a problem for Norwegian when we sailed on the Prima out of Galveston.  On embarkation day there were clearly marked bottles that the bars were using until we reached international waters when those bottles were swapped out for the regular fully stocked bar.
