K32682 Posted Tuesday at 01:01 PM #26 Share Posted Tuesday at 01:01 PM I received some packing cubes as a gift, tried them and didn't see the benefit. If anything they reduced the flexibility when packing.
shipgeeks Posted Tuesday at 01:32 PM #27 Share Posted Tuesday at 01:32 PM It's a No for me. The few things that I want to pack together - undies, socks - go into large clear ziplock bags. If I want to put larger things together, I might use the clear "box" plastic bag that a set of sheets came in. Most of what we pack is way too large to put into containers. Long pants, dresses, jackets all get laid across the suitcase, topped with another and another, then folded across each other, to avoid wrinkling. Shoes and other small items get tucked into corners.
mammajamma2013 Posted Tuesday at 02:35 PM #28 Share Posted Tuesday at 02:35 PM I use them but don't pack everything in them. One for workout clothes, one for undergarments, one for cross packing. Everything else gets rolled or folded to take advantage of the nooks and crannies that can develop as I pack. I don't think they would help me to reduce what or how much I pack. The reduction came with experience and seeing what I didn't use when I unpacked.
9tee2Sea Posted Tuesday at 02:41 PM #29 Share Posted Tuesday at 02:41 PM don't use the " squeeze the air out" packing bags. Those make it much more easier to go over the weight limit. I can fit about 1 weeks worth of clothes in each packing cube. 1 cube for shirts, 1cube for pants, 1 cube for under garments, and 1 cube to put in my carryon ( just in case luggage gets lost). Still have room for anything else extra ( dress shoes, sport coat). All my toiletries ( never take shampoo) go into a plastic bag and into my carryon. Never have gone over weight limit. I also don't pack a big suitcase, I think mine is about 24" ( med size). Works for me, but might not work for everyone.
Rare CDNPolar Posted Tuesday at 08:40 PM #30 Share Posted Tuesday at 08:40 PM I use them all the time. I pack certain items together - like all socks, all underwear - and then the packing cube goes right in the drawer. No unpacking. The ones with shirts nicely folded go on the shelves. Quickest unpacking ever.
donaldsc Posted Wednesday at 12:59 AM #31 Share Posted Wednesday at 12:59 AM Packing cubes will not solve your weight problem. In fact they will make it worse because you can compress more of your stuff into a small volume. You then end up with empty space in your suitcase which lets you carry even more stuff. Cubes let you carry the same amount of stuff in a smaller suitcase. They let you keep your stuff more organized. They don't help you reduce the weight of your suitcase. If so, please share the advantages, as I am a OVERPACKER and want to keep weight of suitcase under control Thanks much! As I cruise more, I'm packing more and more stuff. I researched/YouTube packing cubes and compression packing cubes. Basically don't bother with expensive compression. Just overstuff the regular packing cube. I got my 3pack cubes from Walmart ($8). 1 small and 2 large. I use the small for under shirts/wear and socks. And 1 large for button down shirts and pants. Not using the 3rd because after I bought the packing cubes the zipper on my carry on started having problems. (I have almost 100 cruises and have only used carry on. Solo male) So I bought a bigger carry on. Now with those 2 packing cubes, I can stuff my ski jacket in there! (Alaska then Hawaii b2b cruises) Edited Wednesday at 01:21 AM by fstuff1

SelectSys Posted Friday at 01:47 AM #34 Share Posted Friday at 01:47 AM My wife turned me on to packing cubes and I find they make traveling easier by helping you to maintain your things in an organized manner. This is especially true when moving from place to place via land and air travel.
