Coco Creek Posted September 29, 2008 #26 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Not liking the glass panels above the rails of the lawn club deck. Me too, not liking the glass panels. any chance they are temporary?
hylasgirl Posted September 29, 2008 #27 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Wow! Thanks for the link. I think it looks awesome! I think the theatre is gorgeous! I think the back end looks funny... It looks awesome until you see just the back, then it looks extremely square. I am WAY excited to sail and the ship is a beauty, but the butt end just doesn't fit... I can't wait to see more! fraidknot Posted September 29, 2008 #28 Share Posted September 29, 2008 In these difficult times, Ok, not to belabor the point... But, and this is by no means an attack on you, who says these times are difficult? It seems most of us are booked on cruise vacations, we've got more money than we know what to do with... When I look at what I have, who I have, where I have it, I cant agree that this is a difficult time. Cheer up, turn off the News! :D I think the ship isn't the best design either. The balcony cabins hang over the lifeboats - not the water - on much of the ship, there isn't a whole lot of deck space on top, and its just not as attractive to me as some of the other ships I've seen (the back is ugly). Its my opinion. I also don't really care how attractive a ship is... that's like arguing that dollar bill is an ugly shade of green... you still want them in your wallet. sjaak Posted September 29, 2008 #30 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Yesterday we drove 800 kilometres "just" to see "our Solstice". And we weren't the only ones. There were thousands of people! Of course we made some pictures and especially of cabins with angled balconies, overhang or no overhang, cabins right above the tenders. If you're interested (of course you are ;) ) you can find our pictures here http://travel.webshots.com/album/567494320JQQIzQ

Druke I Posted September 29, 2008 #33 Share Posted September 29, 2008 I certainly did not mean to stir up the Celebrity loyalists with my remark that I thought Solstice was ugly, which I do! From the side, it looks like a floating apartment block, lacking a full promenade deck, and other evidence of open decks. The rear view is what I object to the most. The flare of the stern just above the waterline reminds of a platypus' bill, and again there is no evidence of open decks. There are some ships out there that I think are good looking: the former Royal Princess (now Artemis), the former Crystal Harmony (now Asuka II), Coral and Island Princess, several of the Holland American ships, P&O's Aurora, etc. For those of you who have a hard time accepting opposing views, I quote the late British comedian Terry-Thomas: "Hard cheese". RodPat Posted September 29, 2008 #37 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Watched the video from beginning to end and loved every minite of it. I didn't realize how much German I have forgotten. We lived there for a year but that was 40 years ago and my mind is 40 years older now.:D The ship looked wonderful to me. Can't wait to sail her Nov. 30. jt1120 Posted September 29, 2008 #38 Share Posted September 29, 2008 They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I say that is one ugly ship! I'll tell you how "ugly" it is when I get off of the inaugural sailing. I'm sure you'll love Carnival ships. They're probably more to your liking anyway. In other words, were your negative comments necessary? You leave no reasoning behind your view, other than to say it's ugly. Why do you find it ugly? What is ugly about it to you? hylasgirl Posted September 29, 2008 #44 Share Posted September 29, 2008 I am not sure how to help you... My computer buffered forever, but it finally worked just fine. Of course my translator wasn't working:D I think the ship looks beautiful from the side. Big, but beautiful. I don't know how anyone can say that butt end looks appealing though. It looks like they stuck a block of cabins on there with no regard to what it would look like?? I think the curvature of the bow is strange too, and think it would have looked better if they hadn't squared that off also, but... they didn't ask me, did they:D Yep... we are definitely affected by the financial problems that are happening too (although I hear our economy is fundamentally sound) but we switch our priorities around so we can sail. So... Top Ramen for dinner until May, when we sail the Solstice! Thanks for the photo link! Awesome!!! I can't wait!

Ernie I've been having an issue with Firefox not playing videos for a while. I think it is a bug in their latest release. A while ago I downloaded a Firefox extension called "ie view" which enables you to reload the page in IE by simply right clicking and selecting "View this page in IE" or setting a rule for known problem pages to always open in Internet Explorer. You can download it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/35 Phil
signman Posted September 29, 2008 #46 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Ernie, thanks for the link to that great set of stills. Pool deck area now looks even smaller than I imagined. I really hope there is enough deck space. The Lawn club eats up a lot too, and I just don't understand the glass panels above the railings. I sure hope these panels are not elsewhere on the ship. And I hope I am wrong, but I think the dining room chairs are going to be extremely uncomfortable for any persons of size, and maybe for everyone. Just look how the arms curve in at the front. It looks like there will be a sharp angle pressing into your thighs. And if that opening is not wide enough for some of our wide bottoms??????????????? marinearchit Posted September 29, 2008 #47 Share Posted September 29, 2008 I actually like her stern, much more than anything else out there. I think the bow is a little short, but overall I like the design. As for the dining room, it's way too boring. The columns are pretty awesome, but otherwise I think the room is underwhelming. As for the other rooms onboard, I love them. The lobby is great! I wish it would look a little more traditional (Like the M-class' lobbies), but hey, it's still very nice. Especially the ceiling! The casino is also another great design, along with most of the other interiors onboard.

Sea Island Lady Posted September 29, 2008 #49 Share Posted September 29, 2008 No kidding! Did you see the reporter? He is a skinny guy and could barely get in the dining room chair. I know that I will not be comfortable in those chairs because they lean back too far. They are like bar chairs. I have to have support at my back to sit up and eat for a long time...not slouch back in a chair and relax. I personally think the ship is too utilitarian. I prefer the classic look of the ships of the past. I am sure that this ship will appeal to many, but I think DH and I will be cancelling our reservation. We are already looking into other options. marinearchit Posted September 29, 2008 #50 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Sea Island Lady, At least wait and see what she looks like when completely furnished, then make a decision. I'm sure she'll end up much less cold. As for the chairs, I think they look uncomfortable, too and am hopeing that Equinox will have different ones.
