johnnycruise Posted June 11, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2016 First Azamara cruise next month and we will be traveling in Europe beforehand. Is the laundry-by-the-bag service offered throughout the cruise or is it a sporadic special on a couple of days only? Don't really want to pay by the piece for undergarments and prefer not to spend time in the laundromat.

Azamarajunkie Posted June 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2016 And don't forget, if your cruise experience includes Celebrity in the past, your Captains Club level will be recognised on Azamara and you may get a free bag of Laundry coupon that you can use at any time during your cruise. cruisemuse13 Posted June 12, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2016 One advantage of a smaller ship, is that you are never too far away from someplace, like the laundry. On our last cruise, we were on deck 8 by the stairwell and it was a quick trip to the laundry. I was lucky in that I never had to wait for a machine, so tossed in the laundry, went back to my cabin to relax. So I did not have to hang around the laundry room . Very convenient. We also used the coupon for a bag of laundry for our less delicate items.
2pbears Posted June 15, 2016 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2016 We are just off the Quest and our stateroom was conveniently located a short distance from the laundry on deck 7 (close enough to be handy but far enough away so as not to be bothered by traffic or noise). That said, this was a 12 day European cruise and apparently many passengers had been in Europe for a pre-cruise stay and many were remaining in Europe for a post-cruise stay. The laundry room was jam packed with people at any given time of day for the entire cruise. Many just sat in the room waiting for an available machine. It wasn't unusual to pop in during the day to find a cocktail party going on. At one point during the cruise the machines began breaking down frequently (probably from over use). I must say Azamara handled the situation beautifully and once they realized there was a problem they stationed a crew member in the laundry room for a day and a half to monitor and re-set any machine problems and assist to passengers with any problems they might be having. Well done Azamara! This was only one of the many reasons we decided to book our second Azamara cruise while on board.

They are not a non-profit organization, although many here apparently want them to behave like one.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted June 15, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 15, 2016 Is laundry done by the piece reasonably priced? Presumably they iron and fold as well? On a 7-day cruise, what days would the bag deal usually be expected to happen?

By the piece, items are ironed where appropriate, everything else folded. By the one-price bag, folded only.

If they did offer it regularly, some who use the free laundromat would use the paid by the bag service. And if they offered the bag special all the time, some--I'd bet many--who send out laundry by the piece, would use the less costly bag special instead. If your logic made sense, every store, restaurant, market, anybody who sold anything, would put everything they sold on sale all the time. Ever think there might be a reason why they don't? The bag is comparable to a load of laundry and is competing with the free, but sometimes overcrowded, laundromat. As the bag costs $30 or so, laundry by the piece can be cheaper. It is "logical" that passengers only wanting to clean a half dozen or fewer pieces wouldn't use the bag "special." I will just hope for the worst: the laundromat machines will break from continuous use early in the cruise and all passengers will get a gratis bag of wash (as the Journey provided its passengers when the laundromat was out of service). And by offering such free laundry, Azamara will regain its not-for-profit status:p
IsanTom Posted June 17, 2016 #14 Share Posted June 17, 2016 I look forward to doing my laundry while on board Azamara. It's part of the cruise experience. Many people cruise Azamara because of the free laundry! Bon Voyage!

dread_pirate Posted June 17, 2016 #16 Share Posted June 17, 2016 What about detergent for the free self-service laundry? Is it provided? Available? Or should we just bring some Tide pods or the like onboard?
crzrr Posted June 17, 2016 #17 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Detergent is provided. I usually pack a ziplock with dryer sheets - makes my luggage smell good too! We often do one load of laundry just for underwear, etc. Generally we send out anything else. Due to status, we get a free bag but we always end up sending out more that we pay for. We think that it's very well priced and the service is wonderful. Either I pay a bit and come home with some clean clothes or I'm up to my eyeballs in dirty clothes once I get home. It prolongs the vacation glow if I don't have as much laundry once home. And, that is priceless :)!

Rare Port Power Posted June 20, 2016 #19 Share Posted June 20, 2016 (edited) We also receive a free bag of laundry each (that means 2 bags) but most of my clothes I hand wash one each day. Really light chiffon-style tops. Previously it often worked out cheaper to dry clean five of DH's shirts rather than launder by the bag. DH loves socialising in the laundromat anyway and irons his own shirts on cruises. Edited June 20, 2016 by Port Power
MNgardens Posted September 18, 2016 #20 Share Posted September 18, 2016 (edited) Just back from the Journey. There are no lines in the bathroom for drying bathing suits or delicates. I ordered this line from amazon https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WAVDO78/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Using the wall mounted hooks that hold the curtain tie, I strung the line from one wall to the other. I almost made it across twice, giving me more line to use. I was really happy with how it worked out. Another detail - Laundry room was posted as opening at 8. I arrived at 8:02 and all the machines were in use. Many had clearly been going for at least 15 minutes. In a corner of the laundry room was a large container that held laundry pods. You will probably be Discover Plus. You can go to the Le Voyage Club website at the following link to view the benefits. Internet allowance I don't think is as generous as Celebrity, but if you are staying in a suite you will get the suite benefits and not your loyalty club benefits. Besides being welcomed with open arms , there's very little 'class distinction' evident onboard. Everyone is welcomed, treated with respect and professionalism which I think is terrific as we were all cruise 'virgins' once. Enjoy your cruise, we'll be waiting eagerly on your feedback. https://www.azamaraclubcruises.com/en-au/le-club-voyage/le-club-voyage-program/member-benefits
pvkatmom Posted September 19, 2016 #23 Share Posted September 19, 2016 This is a photo of the current price list. Sorry it's orientated side on. I don't seem to be able to edit my photobucket at the moment. Phil Thanks for posting this, Phil! Actually I think most of the prices are quite reasonable-- $3 to have a long sleeve shirt washed and ironed-- that's cheap! Well, it depends on where one lives, I pay $1.95 in southern California suburbs per shirt, but my daughter and her husband who also live in Socal pay much more per shirt. But very reasonable considering you're on a ship at sea. Because we're on vacation, if we do much laundry at all, we do the bag thing (we get a free bag being in CC suite every 7 days, but only my husband's stuff goes in those bags) and hand wash delicates (I also bought a washing line with suction cups a week ago on Amazon). I didn't even know there was a free laundromat room. Thanks for your post, Phil, hope to run into you on Journey for the 12/23 sail!
Ithikan Posted September 19, 2016 #24 Share Posted September 19, 2016 Loving the laundry service on Azamara - with a quick caveat. We'd been traveling and passed along numerous items for cleaning after unpacking in our cabin on day one. They were returned as anticipated, in pristine condition: tee-shirts & blouses on hangers, "smalls" bundled into a tidy, tissue-wrapped package. Not so on $30/bag laundry day. We again took advantage, but everything was returned in a tightly folded stack. The linen jacket and blouses were washed in cold, as requested, but the wrinkles were impossible and I elected to send those back for ironing. Slightly different service on "sale" day, but still, such a pleasure to forego the laundry tasks in exchange for a bit of OBC!
Grandma Cruising Posted September 19, 2016 #25 Share Posted September 19, 2016 Strange - must be 'sale' day. I used my LCV bag voucher last year and shirts certainly came back on hangers. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
