Friends on board Equinox reported that the Royal Board will be asked to move Summit according to the Q&A session with Lisa..

Also the royal board has to approve changes to the Loyalty program ie Zen is on the Horizon

A new head of loyalty has been named.. Andrea ???

This is not first hand information but others may chime in..

As long as they replace Summit with another ship, it would be nice for a change. I can't see them giving up Bermuda and Canada/New England itineraries. That would just leave us with RCCL.

As far as the loyalty program goes, we are so far away even from "Zen" that adding another level won't do anything but put us even farther down on the food chain. We were at the top, now we are second to top then we will go to third from the top.

We were just talking last night about how hard it is to obtain loyalty levels now on Celebrity. Unless of course you have money. It's more of a "who has the most money program" as opposed to loyalty rewards.

The context I believe is that it's not Summit leaving Bayonne, but Celebrity leaving Bayonne.

Wow, so no more Bermuda or Canada / New England. That's not good. Why would she want to do a stupid thing like that especially since RCCL put so much money into Bayonne?

She is really good at alienating Celebrity's long time loyal cruisers.

That's too bad Celebrity is leaving Bayonne. We live in Toronto, and Bayonne was a very easy port to drive to for us.

We're three hours south of you and I agree. It's only a ten hour drive.. :D

We'll be back in a week and a half.

Dont take this as a "done deal". It is hardly set in stone at this time.

I agree but I wonder what the motivation is. I thought Summit is nearly always at capacity. Are passengers spending too much time ashore and not spending their money in the casino or shops?

The shops and casino are only open when the ship is at sea. So that wouldn't be a factor.

Way too early to tell what will happen....maybe it will just get a new home port in the New York Metro area. Maybe somewhere else from which it can still do Bermuda & New England. Maybe it will be replaced by some other ship (Edge 2?). There are so many possibilities, but it just is mere speculation and I dont want to see people jumping to the conclusion that there's no Bayonne, no Bermuda and or/no New England in Celebrity's future.

Their parent company pulled out of NYC in 2004 or 2005, after NYC said they would not make improvements to the NY City terminals. They put all their money into Bayonne (Cape Liberty). Heck the terminal they built and parking garage is brand new. Why would Celebrity NOT want to use this?

Hopefully they are just thinking about switching ships. Summit has been there since 2011. Prior to that is was Constellation.

My DH and I are going to book the Summit July 8,2018 cruise to Bermuda from Bayonne in the next day or two.

Family members have already booked this cruise and we will be joining them.

Would Celebrity list cruises that would be cancelled next summer ?

Perhaps, it would be better to wait on an official announcement from Celebrity before conjecturing on CC.

Earlier this summer she said that they would be introducing a level between Eliteplus and Zenith, then she retracted it and said they werent ready to announce it yet. The speculation was that they were waiting for a replacement for Lee Moreau so the new person in that position could do the honors.

WHO put their money into Cape Liberty? Was it the "parent company"? Are they on a lease with the Port Authority? They probably don't own the land. Wouldn't you think that whoever paid the tab for the terminal, parking deck and roadway improvements intended to stay there many years?

Royal Caribbean International, the parent company, put the money in to Cape Liberty. They have a lease till December 31, 2043.

It's a bit of interesting information but I'm not going to worry about it until something is officially announced. I have four cabins booked on the Summit in August 2018 and I'm working under the assumption that all will go as anticipated.

Seem to recall that in order to secure Port Authority backing for Port Liberty renovations parent RCCL made certain guarantees regarding port usage. One was definitely that Royal would base a new Quantum class ship there. Not sure about guaranteeing X presence.

Royal will also base Adventure in Bayonne next summer doing Bahama and Canada itineraries. If bookings have been strong could see her pick up Bermuda in 2019. She holds twice as many passengers as Summit.

So this is all based on the statement

"Friends on board Equinox reported that the Royal Board will be asked to move Summit according to the Q&A session with Lisa"

Seems like precious little to get all upset about. Also quite possible there is a lot of info lost in the retelling.

When the boss says that there are other plans for Summit it could also mean that if the traffic warrants it, an S-class ship makes Bayonne home or to really impress the NY market, dare one dream, ..........

On a slow day, when I could have been cruising, I'm at home speculating..

Equinox was taken out of Europe due to a softening market..

Eclipse was moved to South America.. perhaps replacing Infinity's itinerary..

Edge will be going somewhere...

I'm still planning on Summit for next year..... but when "Lisa" says she has plans for Summit, a change is bound to take place. eventually
