Princess Cruisesannounced today that Golden Princess, Crown Princess and Ruby Princess will be the next three ships to feature the Ocean Medallion™. The wearable device -- powered by a first-of-its-kind interactive technology platform within the One Cruise Experience Access Network™ (O·C·E·A·N™) -- enables a new level of personalisation and delivers an enhanced guest experience not previously available in the global holiday industry.

Golden Princess (November 2018), Crown Princess (November 2018) and Ruby Princess (January 2019) join four other Princess ships scheduled to debut Ocean Medallion -- Regal Princess on November 13, 2017, followed by Royal Princess on January 19, 2018, Caribbean Princess on March 18, 2018 and Island Princess on May 16, 2018.

Thanks! My first thought was they've decided the Medallion will be a hit before they've even started using it but I realize these are just future plans which can be cancelled if the Medallion is a dud.

I understand that on the Caribbean Princess recent dry dock the necessary items for Medallion was installed. I'm on the Caribbean Princess in January 2018 but read where the Medallion won't be working until March 2018.

Any idea as to the delay if everything's already installed?

Have no idea what you are talking about.

Really? You realize you will be tracked on the ship wherever you are? And maybe accosted more with promotions which you may find annoying?

Bad enough now with specialist dining, bottled water, effy jewellery, bloody marys at breakfast, drink packages etc etc.

Buy those things once and you will be a marked man, they will know where you are and can target you accurately in the interests of profitability.

I wonder why their newest ship the Majestic isn't scheduled for *****?

\we were on Majestic and the cabin door locks are RFID not the old magnetic stripe operated cards.

So I guess they are ready for Medallion operation.

We had a 50% success rate having holes punched in our cards, afterwards one worked fine the other refused to open the cabin door, must have damaged a circuit with the hole.

The RFID stands for (radio frequency identification). This is the chip on new credit & bank cards. This is being added to the new Medallion system. I understand you can still request the traditional card if you prefer.

Some people buy a case or wallet or that is used for credit cards so that no one can try & copy the information from your cards.

I've heard that with the new Medallion that you will receive it prior to your cruise. Anybody know that if your wearing the Medallion if you don't have to go through the traditional check -in process?

Tom😀

that's how they're selling it!

enter in your info online in advance, get the medallion in the mail and on embarkation just walk past all the check in desks and wave to security as you pass and that's it.

Thanks for the updates...that adds more confusion about why the Majestic isn't scheduled to be one of the first 7 ships with *****.

Wonder what they plan to do on Royal-class ships (and the Island's added cabins?) that require placing a card into the cabin's slot to activate the cabin power?

Some of us prefer to use another type of inactive card instead of our cruise card to activate the cabin power. However for those who use their cruise card they'll either have to be informed to bring another card or Princess will need to provide a card to activate cabin power once ***** is implemented. Or maybe ***** will automatically activate the cabin power when opening the door which would make the slots unnecessary.

But until November all we can do is speculate about how the cabin power will be activated on the Royal-class ships

Hi, Griller. You know you can just opt out, right? Just say no thanks, gimme the old fashioned cruise card. Or cruise another ship, or whatever. You can also turn off the locator feature.

Tom, we're on the same CB in January 2018.

:o Hate to admit it ... but almost glad we don't have the Medallion thingy because I have no clue of exactly how it works.

Use this link http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=2283431 which gives a lot of info & explains how it works. It's either worn on your wrist or it's on a strap you can wear. When your at or near your door it automatically unlocks your door. It's also used when making any purchases, thus no need for staff to see your card. Perhaps the machine on there end will display your photo so that they know who's making the purchase. I've read that you can also opp out & get the traditional card.

Actually you don't need a card for the power slot. You can fold a piece of note paper to the same width of a card and use that. Worked for us on the Regal.

Very true but that's an alternative procedure because Princess intended the card to be used so when passengers exited their cabin they'd remove their cruise card to conserve energy.

You still have to go through the check-in process, but it should be much quicker if you already have your Medallion. After all, they need to actually see your passport and be sure it is you.

One time saver at check-in is that they do not have to go searching to get you your cruise card.

On last cruise with this "feature" the cabin steward already had an old cruise card in the slot and it stayed there for the entire cruise.

Or maybe ***** will automatically activate the cabin power when opening the door which would make the slots unnecessary. I do not think this work work well. If the door is opened a second time (a second person coming in or leaving the room) would the lights go out even though you are still in the cabin?
