Odyssey Transatlantic something’s up
mo&fran replied to RRTcruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean International
SAR service will not necessarily have the same markings as USCG, and helicopters will often be accompanied by fixed wing aircraft to monitor operations. Ship speed and direction will be directed by pilot for a safe operation. -

As long as that system keeps moving, the radar showed it raining there also. It expected to be here next week. We're leaving on Explorer tomorrow, Coco Cay Monday, then west to Falmouth and Grand Cayman. -

I looked at some weather stations on St Thomas , and it showed some pretty heavy rain fall rates and like 40mph wind gusts. Our weather guys are predicting we may get some of that next week. Weather service is not currently looking at any tropical systems. -
I didn't think any ship had both.

What's it cost to make Pinnacle?

I lived here from 1976 to 1999 for my job. Then I was moved to Connecticut till I retired. Once I was able to sell my house, I came back. -

I retired in 2008, and was D. Will be P in 2 weeks. IN 2008, I would never have thought it would be possible to be in this position. I hit 350 8 years ago when we moved back to Florida. -

Highly unusual incident on the Anthem of the Seas.
mo&fran replied to AltarEgo's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Sounds like getting a zero count on turn around day. -
My experience is at FT Lauderdale. DW had an issue and could not even get out of the car. Wheelchair was brought to the car and she was wheeled in, through checkin, and up to the ramp. I crew member came and took her up the ramp to wherever she wanted to go. Next time, she was able to leave the car, and we were directed to an area for those needing chairs waited for the chairs. same process from there. Disembarkation, we went to a designated spot, and were disembarked . The only question we were asked was our luggage tag number. WE did tip every one that assisted.

Highly unusual incident on the Anthem of the Seas.
mo&fran replied to AltarEgo's topic in Royal Caribbean International
There was a past situation where there was a large cargo vessel docked at the pier next to RCI pier, and the cruise ship had to move to allow the other ship to leave, or arrive, do not remember which, in Bayonne. Maybe something to do with that. Wonder what they do about luggage. -

That test says the server is Vancouver. Isn't that on the west coast of North America. -
Are the Oasis class ships TOO big??
mo&fran replied to Bloomin Onion's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Remember, when Oasis was first being built, RCI also designed and built a new terminal in FLL just for that class. Significant difference was two boarding ramps, and more sections, so it wasn't as steep as the original terminals. And the ships were designed to be docked on the starboard side, so passengers had a smoother flow on and off. The elimination of the health questionnaire, the use of Ipad devices, and having the seapass cards in the stateroom streamlined the boarding. The new muster system eliminated the crowds following the muster drill. As more of the Oasis class ships were built, new terminals were built in Miami, Port Canaveral, and now Galveston. And, an actual terminal was built in Bayonne that accommodates the Quantum class, and the summer Oasis visits. Debarkation was improved by the same features as embarkation, and the implementation of facial recognition by customs and immigration worked very well. Last Allure cruise, we docked port side in FLL. and the difference in debarking was obvious how much difference it was from starboard docking. The flow was just not there. -
Join me on first solo cruise - Allure Oct 29
mo&fran replied to DandDM's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I was on when they turned Starlink on for a day and encountered similar issues. They went away when they switched back to O3B. Might try a speedtest to see what they are using. -
On Allure currently. Some issues.
mo&fran replied to clskinsfan's topic in Royal Caribbean International
We just got off Allure a week ago, and I saw a lot of crew cleaning and polishing. I Imagine her arrival in Galveston will be a big event , what with the new terminal, and the first Oasis class in port. Too bad the could not do the work when there are no passengers on board. -
Never really saw him much after those early Explorer cruises, but we did run into him on a Brilliance repo cruise from Boston to Tampa. We saw him when we first boarded, and he was talking about the M&M event, and he had CC stuff to hand out. It was only at that point that I figured out that he was Kewlguy, and when I saw him in the lounge and asked, he was surprised that I did not already know. He actually gave me his card , that I might actually still have somewhere.

Next Sunday we board Explorer of the Seas for our B2b cruise, thanks to 2 casino vouchers for a free cruise. DW picked this cruise, even though we have to travel further south to Miami. And for the first time since 1999, we have an inside cabin. But, we have the same cabin for both cruises. The prize for this cruise will be that we will hit the magic 700 points on the last day. We cruised a lot on Explorer, our first D+ cruise was Explorer, and the last cruise was when she left Bayonne to make room for Quantum, and we got a block for 350 points during that cruise. Then we moved to Florida a month later. We have done 11 cruises this year, 7 booked with the 2 points promotion, 2 without and 2 casino vouchers. These cruises made Allure our most cruised on ship, moving Explorer into 2nd place. When we went on our first D+ cruise, we met a fellow in the Concierge lounge named Tony, from NJ. Better known by his CC name Kewlguy , who later became a CC host, he was telling everyone that the D+ would be excluded from the Concierge Lounge, starting a wave of people booking multiple B2B cruises in Junior suites. Kewlguy, like Bob, just stopped posting one day and hasn't been seen since.
