  1. errors do happen. we had a man overboard scare on a recent sailing (turned out to be a false alarm) but the ship had to 100% muster everyone. So, my wife and I went to our Station and scanned our cards and then went to a bar to await them resuming drink service (two hours of no service). Toward the end of the muster they started calling individual names of who hadn't mustered, and my name was called, so I went to the nearest person holding an iPad and scanned again.
  2. well that sucks. Now I cant get my own drinks in the casino, which i usually do since the number and speed of servers have been cut.
  3. I have just did one partial transit on the Pride, but you might not rule that excursion out. My parents have done both and said they are both very different experiences. One you are in a large ship, probably on main deck above the canal walls, squeezing through the locks. The other, you are in a smaller craft and could be crammed into a lock with a larger ship and most definitely be below the lock walls looking up. So both totally different.
  4. Pride casino in march, casino was smoking, but they had non smoking tables. That was a good compromise so i didn't have to sit directly next to the smoker with his cigarette in my face. I can deal with the general smokiness but not the direct smoke in my face. Also since they banned smoking at the bar, the casinos seem overall less smokey, which makes sense.
  5. still the same. we just walk off the boat, grab a cab to take us to the top of the hill to meet our private excursion. costs like $5.
  6. when I sailed the Breakaway back in January it was always dead. I ate there once for lunch just to try it. It was just me and like 5 servers. I had attributed it to the ship only being 1/3 full, but i guess that is wrong based on all the comments. I would not pay to eat there again.
  7. yeah and how many other guests were connected at the same time? was this on an actual cruise with a few thousand passengers?
  8. if i told you my secrets to tendering then they would not be secrets anymore.
  9. or the more common "your upcoming cruise booking needs attention" crap. no it doesn't, you're just trying to upsell me crap.
  10. I have a Carnival cruise in November. Due date for final payment is 9/3. I have already received 2 email reminders from Carnival. Last one had "Urgent" in the title, so it scared me thinking I almost missed my payment date.
  11. Anyone happen to have a recent copy of the Allure show schedules? We are heading out this weekend on a 6 day adventure and would like to have a plan for making reservations once I get onboard.
  12. whale tails. if the ship doesn't have a whale tale i just can't sail on it.
  13. yup all about perception. About 15 years ago, I was on a CVN, while it was docked in Norfolk, doing some testing. Unbeknownst to me, as I was testing on a not to interfere basis, an Admiral was retiring and decided to hold his ceremony aboard. About 5 days before the ceremony, about 3 tractor trailers pulled up on the pier, fully loaded with 5 gallon buckets of Haze Gray paint. The sailors hand painted (brushes and rollers) the entire ship from water line to 013/014 level. Just slapping lipstick on a pig so the ship looked nice for that one day. Completely ruined my testing, as I was doing air sampling and monitoring.
  14. dang, no luck on my 2 Chase cards.
  15. Went to check in for our July 31 cruise. when I try to check in on the app I get an "check in has checked out" error. anyone else have this issue.
  16. armored hulls went the way of the Dodo when missiles came about. There were actually 2 navy ship/tanker collisions recently. USS McCain and USS Fitzgerald. Both resulted in deaths. In both cases the cargo ships did hit the Navy ships but it was the fault of the Navy ships, not the tankers. Just in the last few weeks it was determined that the McCain was actually 80% responsible for the collision. And they were more than just dents, the McCain's hull was sliced open.
  17. last time I sailed on the Breakaway (last year) definitely smelled exhaust in the Spice H20. No soot that I saw. But with all the smokers at the bar and taking up half of Spice H20 I didn't stay very long.
  18. big fan of the Spirit class, so here are a few differences that i noticed in comparing them. Also might give some clue as to how the Spirit class will be eventually 'Sunshined" in order to make the ship more profitable. 1. Luminosa is 5 ft longer, 10 feet wider, 6570 tons more displacement 2. Luminosa interior cabins are larger due to the ship being 10ft wider. This results in interior cabins having couches like OV and balconies on Spirit 2. Luminosa has 68 more cabins (1130 vs 1062) 3. Luminosa has a full exterior promenade on Deck 3, vs the interior promenade at the bow on Spirit. 4. Luminosa main theatre is only 2 decks high, so it has cabins on deck 4 instead of theatre seating like Spirit 5. Mini Suites and Suites on Luminosa are in the hump/bump out, between life boats, on decks 4-8, vs regular balconies on Spirit. 6. Starting on Deck 9, the Luminosa's structure is much larger, where as Spirits decks, start tapering in in overall size. This is most notable on decks 11-12 7. Luminosa only has 2 pools, not 3. So only 1 pool mid ship and 1 at the stern. So I wonder if the Luminosa will have Serenity at the back. 8. No waterworks on Luminosa.
  19. here is the difference between a pullman and convertible bunk. there was a similar thread on the Cruise Critic UK site. Radiance Room 5301 with upper pullman (bed comes down from wall or ceiling) with "standard" carnival couch with no arms. Radiance Room 2344 with "convertible bunk" bunk lifts out of the couch. notice couch has arms. Unfortunatly there are no photos with the bunk up, for Carnival, but here is the equivalent couch from MSC with the bunk up. Pretty sure it is the same couch, just Carnival's is covered in vinyl and MSC in cloth.
  20. update. I submitted my request the night of 6/8 for the 4 cruises. status so far. June 22 cruise - no response Nov 22 cruise - approved 6/9 Jan 23 cruise - approved 6/9 April 23 cruise - denied 6/9 (denial reason was that there was no name on the brokerage statement, but i sent the same exact statement for the other 2 that were approved. guess the person processing can't read) So just going to resubmit the April 23 request again.
  21. i just submitted 4 requests last night, for cruises ranging from 2 weeks from now, till April 2023. Got auto replies for all 4. will see what happens, especially for the cruise in 2 weeks.
  22. so could you just park in the Carnival recommended parking lot and then call an Uber/Lyft to save time and aggravation? or is it walkable? edit: never mind, looked on a map, dang that is far. I would definitely consider an Uber.
