  1. I've had the funfetti cheesecake on my last two cruises and it was surprisingly good. I cruise again in less than a month and I'm hoping they haven't found a way to screw it up.
  2. This right here is why I don't worry about bacon not being available some days. Even on the days when they do serve it, it's often inedible. And I'm not one that needs his bacon super crispy, just not see through.
  3. Cucina has become our Go-To place for embarkation day lunch. Very few people go there as everyone's in line for Guy's. The portions are a decent size too.
  4. That drives me crazy! I got one of those "fares so low we're practically paying you to cruise" e-mails from Carnival just yesterday. Filtered down to Galveston and the fares were no lower than usual.
  5. Then when Carnival eventually cracks down and won't let you bring it on board I can just see people heading over to Amazon to buy Gravy Runners™
  6. This. I'm only 30 minutes from Galveston. For me it's more of a practicality thing than a Texas thing. If I choose to fly somewhere to cruise, it ends up costing me more than sailing from Galveston when you figure in air fare, food, hotel on each end, etc. New Orleans and Mobile are within driving distance, but the itineraries are the same so not much reason to burn that much gas unless there's a ship I really want to sail on. One day I'll cruise from somewhere I have to fly to, but for now I'm just happy to be out on the water.
  7. The new non-smoking casinos on the Dream class ships used to be conference rooms. I guess not enough people booked them for conferences so they decided to convert them into casinos. The Vista class was built without these conference rooms so there really isn't anywhere they could put a new casino on those ships.
  8. Haven't cruised on Dream, but have had a Lido balcony on Breeze and other ships. Pros are that they are close to so many things. Just a few steps and you're on the pool deck. A few more steps and you're in the Buffet. Also close to the sports, spa, and serenity decks. I can't really think of any cons. I've had Lido balconies on four cruises and enjoyed it every time. Some people think there will be a lot of noise from the pool deck but we never heard anything, even when out on the balcony. Once on Valor we had a cabin that was only three cabins away from the cabin right next to the pool deck and it was still quiet.
  9. I'm pretty much the same way. Only time I was truly felt rushed was at seaday brunch. One time when it still closed at 1:00, we got there around 12:40. Our server seemed agitated that we arrived "late" as most other guests had already left and I guess they wanted to start getting ready for the dinner service. Not exaggerating when I say they pushed us out of there in about 30 minutes. Soured us on brunch for a long time.
  10. The default menu is through the app, but your server will provide you with a menu if you need or want one. I had to ask for one when I forgot my glasses in my cabin and they happily provided me with a menu right away.
  11. I got the same offer for my upcoming Vista cruise. Cove to decks 8 or 9 for $110. I could be tempted by a free Lido balcony but that's about it.
  12. Great review! Love the Breeze. I was lucky to do two cruises on her in the past twelve months. As to the Texas, a lot of us are pulling for her to stay in Galveston. There's been a lot of chatter that the city and the Battleship Texas Foundation both want her there, but they can't agree on a location. The Foundation wants her at Pier 21, while the city wants her at Seawolf Park with the USS Stewart and USS Cavalla. The 2019 Galveston Wharves master plan showed a spot carved out for her at Seawolf so it's obvious that they want to keep her. Fingers crossed they can work it out.
  13. I miss that and the old Hard Rock Cafe.
  14. Could be he had a few reds and golds trying to sneak their bags into their cabins before you showed up and telling the guy they were platinum (I've seen a few on here bragging about getting away with it). You might have been the tipping point and he didn't care what you told him after chasing away a few that shouldn't have been there. Still no reason for any rudeness, but unless he had a bad day before his shift started I can't think of any other reason for him to act that way.
  15. We'll be in Cozumel in December with no excursion planned and this sounds like something we'd like to do. Is it the Cozumel Humane Society or another rescue? Do you just show up or is it recommended to contact them first?
  16. My PVP posted on Zuckbook that the website is having issues and to wait and try again tomorrow.
  17. People with faster internet connections won them all at trivia
  18. Considering how easy it is for a crew member to get in trouble and even lose their job, I'm betting most of those looking at their phones were getting work related messages. On our last cruise were were talking with a crew member at breakfast whose contract was almost up. While we were talking she got a message on her phone. It was info about her new contract which would start in a couple of months.
  19. Never actually done Christmas Day, but have sailed in December. I think the only difference on the 25th from the rest of the month is that they have a special MDR menu. We cruised the first week of December and the ship was already decorated with a huge tree in the atrium. There was a special Christmas themed show in the theater one night. They did an ugly sweater contest and had carol singing in the Atrium. There was Christmas music playing in some parts of the ship. A couple of Christmas themed movies on the big screen. The Grinch took part in all of the Doctor Seuss activities. A lot of passengers that are into door decorating did their doors in a Christmas theme which was nice to look at. We walked around the ship just to see what the decorations looked like. We'll be on Vista this December and we're really looking forward to it.
  20. Love the Coves! Stayed in my first one last year and it lived up to the hype. Booked a cruise earlier this year about eight weeks before sailing and couldn't get one as they are that popular. Ended up in a Lido balcony which we've had many times in the past and is now a close second as far as favorites go. Going to be back in a Cove in December and can't wait.
  21. For $6 I think I might take a chance on it.
  22. It could be. Before my last cruise I got a call from my PVP telling me that he had looked for a price drop and found one and I was getting the difference in OBC. The cruise was already cheap enough that I never thought about looking since I didn't think it would go any lower, but he found me an extra $120 in OBC.
