  1. The disadvantage of the Whirlpool Bridge is having to drive into Niagara Falls (both Ontario and NY). I generally stop for a bathroom break in Beamsville and check the bridge crossing data. If not busy, I go to the Peace Bridge which gets you directly onto I-190 to the NY State Thruway. If it is busy, I use the Whirlpool Bridge with the Niagara Scenic Parkway (formerly Robert Moses Parkway) to I-290 to the Thruway, which costs an extra toll although I don’t remember in which direction it is charged.
  2. I have done transactions and immediate reversals to correct an error and the difference was minuscule. I have also compared my rate to the rate shown for xe.com and they were very similar.
  3. If you don't have a source of US$ income, or a reason for exchanging large amounts of currency at a time, you will be paying fairly expensive retail rates to buy US$ to pay the bills. It certainly has never been worth it for me; in addition, my foreign spending is in other currencies besides US$.
  4. Home Trust Visa no longer gives 1% back on any purchase made in a foreign currency. They haven’t for quite some time.
  5. Yes, but it would only be the first unread after marking the forum as read. The best suggestion is to go into the threads that interest you (hopefully there aren’t too many) and scroll back to see what you missed. The earlier you do it the easier it will be.
  6. That is from Amsterdam Centraal, not Rotterdam Centraal.
  7. I rarely see them anymore, as I don’t use Google search.
  8. You might want to post this in the British Isles and Western Europe forum of the Ports of Call section. There are some locals who post there regularly.
  9. Google doodles are the special ways of writing Google on the main Google search page. They don’t have special ones every day, but they are frequently quite inventive. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Doodle
  10. FYI. It is called a Google Doodle. That one is also in Canada and the US, but I’m not sure where else. (I used to be able to see a map associated with a doodle but couldn’t find it.) It is also Portugal’s national day and their doodle is a traditional Portuguese tiles.
  11. Can someone please explain to me what secrets of the sea are in Brioche Forest Berry Pudding?
  12. "Pop" in my part of Canada too; I'm not sure whether it is true across the country.
  13. Nope. Canadians use "math" the same as Americans.
  14. Have you considered International Friends? They generally run trips on disembarkation that spend time at Stonehenge before continuing to London hotels.
  15. From the signature this is only the second cruise; the first was Bahamas.
  16. As to how far in advance, I would play around with the website and find the point at which the cheap fares occur, probably between 60 and 90 days. Then work backwards to get some idea of how long those fares last (know that the cheapest discounted fares are limited) to get an idea of when to book. Wait too long and the fares will be higher.
  17. Might I suggest to people in the same situation to invest in a local SIM card with lots of data and ignore the wi-fi. On a European river cruise you will always (or virtually always) have cell service. You will have European roaming, so you can use it in multiple countries.
  18. What I remember from the €49 ticket is that it is only valid on regional trains, not on ICE trains. You might get a lower price than that on a high-speed train, but it won’t be as flexible. The DB website is very easy to navigate in English. I picked a date in mid-July (it helps to match day of the week you wish to travel) and saw ICE trains from €29.90. From Munich hauptbahnhof (central station) trains are direct; from the airport you change at central station. I looked at a number of departures; almost all are less than €49 so that ticket is unnecessary.
  19. I must admit that I don't remember that information. Thanks for the reminder.
  20. Sorry. You are very unlikely to get a ticket to Anne Frank House at this late date. And Keukenhof is closed for the season.
  21. I thought ships were always “she”. The “Gentleman II”?
