  1. Yes, you may share your devices with friends not in your cabin. The only drawback is a "fifth" device will kick one of the 4 other devices off...randomly. I shared my plan with my sister. I could not tell by what was displayed on the screen, which devices were connected since they are not named. We had 2 iPhones, 2 computers, and 1 iPad.
  2. I think you have hit upon the basic. The Sky and the Diamond had less passengers than the modified Island Princess. Princess introduced an app delivery system without taking into account that they do not (present tense) have the crew to support it. I feel so bad for the crew who are running all over the ship trying to fill orders. I hope you were able to resolve your MDR problems by speaking with the Assistant Manager. Maybe an audience with the Food and Beverage Officer will give you insight into ordering drinks. Good luck trying to make an appointment with him.
  3. It will for me. I have begrudgingly paid the increase from $40 to $50 for the Plus Beverage Package. But will not spring for the $60/day to include the desserts and classes. I may be in the minority, but I would have preferred the choice of a third package....Wifi, crew incentive, beverages...without the added extras for $50.
  4. On cruises less than 7 days, there are no formal nights. 7 days = 2 "formal nights". 14 days = 3 "formal nights". The young ones seem to be all decked out with formal "gowns". As for me...basic black is all I take.
  5. I had a problem on a ship recently. Casino Manager came over to help me. I asked him about numbers (which I will never reach and didn't care to retain the information). He mentioned how many points I would need for each level (drinks, etc). Drinks, I think, are a mute point now with the beverage packages. But you could ask what the incentives are. Good Luck.
  6. And I will throw in the "special desserts" and extra gym classes. PURE PROFIT for Princess. Has anyone given thought to why they raised the Specialty Dining cover charges? 1. Overall, food prices have gone up (valid). 2. Makes it more appealing to charge passengers more but include it in the Premium Beverage Package (more bang for the buck). 3. Fill up the Specialty Dining rooms so you can't book reservations with your 2 extra credits. But I digress. I have been in venues where the server will come over once and then never be seen again. It was much better when they were trying to sell you drinks. At least it looked like they were interested. I don't want them to become like Carnival, where they are pushy. Just service when needed.
  7. Glad you reached out to the manager and pit boss. 1. They should have flagged you as a customer who wants to be checked on, frequently. 2. Not enough servers? Common problem. 3. Princess should NEVER have rolled out an app with this promise. They have stretched their staff thinner than thin. It is a fail on the developers part, the "genius" that pushed it (not naming names), and WILL NEVER deliver on its promise. Pushing the beverage package and not providing enough servers is a really bad business decision.
  8. I am really happy for those passengers who want to migrate over to the Sun Class. Even more excited for folks like me that will stay with the smaller ships. Maybe, just maybe, "we" will sail with fewer passengers. (sarcasm aka Sheldon Cooper) Just don't move her to the West Coast. I will gladly take the Coral or the Grand.
  9. I never understood why Princess doesn't have this image on their website. Seems like a no brainer. It was on their tiny atlas page they have have since abandoned.
  10. I was referring to cell service WHILE on Alaska grounds. I remember my first cruise to Alaska (a very long time ago). I had to find a Verizon dealer and ask if there were roaming charges. He explained that I would see a different network, but was covered. Back then, I didn't have unlimited Text and Talk and was very careful when using my phone. I am always on airplane mode when on the ship. I make sure that I am on cell service when on land. When I cruise to and from Hawaii, I always manually set my calendar and time to current ocean time before going to sleep. In the summer...that means changing my time zone 6 times (coming and going). Fortunately, the ship ALSO changes the time on the same night. I don't trust my phone to do it overnight (me not the phone).
  11. Do a mock booking for 4. Note the cabin numbers and AVOID them when choosing your stateroom.
  12. Things to consider: Position of sun. Will it be shining in your face? Sunset? I know you mentioned sail away, but about a late port departure? A sea day may mean missing formal night. A long day of excursions? Rain, weather, and/or bugs?
  13. What do you mean "outside" cabin? Ocean View, balcony, mini, suite? If you are referring to an Ocean View Cabin, It will be on deck 5 and 8 (some obstructed). There will be a vertical bar that might get in the way of your "Hi!".
  14. It seems as though many of your issues are MDR related. I would speak to the Assistant Manager (aka Head Waiter). Maybe even ask to be changed to a different station (unless of course you are not assigned the same table/station every night). I do not use the app for ordering drinks. It is so much easier for me to walk up to a bar and place my order. But I am also not a serious drinker. Welcome to Cruise Critic.
  15. Flying into a cruise tour has become much more difficult due to baggage restrictions by the airlines. Traveling as a couple is not so bad. One piece of (shared) luggage can go to the ship. The other piece (shared) can go on your tour. Unless you are driving, I can't imagine that you would need 2 to go on your tour and one being sent to the ship. Remember that you have to place your luggage outside every night/morning before your next adventure. With all that said, I did this decades ago. I sent warm clothes to the ship and took cold clothes with me. Mistake #1. It was so hot on the land portion. Mistake #2. It was freezing on the train. There is no harm in dragging both luggage with you on the land portion. Although, it makes it cumbersome.
  16. Your phone should sync with local time. Alaska is included in data/text/time/calls since it is part of the 50 states (although not contiguous). Go to settings. Turn on set automatically in your date/time. The only problem you may encounter is Vancouver/Victoria. You might need to set it manually if you leave cell range in Alaska.
  17. Bring your own hairdryer. I don't know of one Princess ship that has a "decent" one.
  18. Interesting problem. Can you call your PCP or TA and have them reassign passenger 2 and 3? Or is passenger 3 paying less?
  19. On the b2b, are you planning on leaving Canada Place (which would mean that you had to go through security again)? If you are just in-transit, you will be fine. There is a lot to do around the area if you want to drop and go.
  20. You will have over 7000 passengers boarding on May 20th (Viking/HAL/Princess). It will be a zoo. Everyone has to go through the same check/choke points. You have 2 choices. Brave the crowds without an assigned arrival time, or board after 1 pm. https://cruisedig.com/ports/vancouver-canada
  21. Auto correct….Liliha Bakery. So this is why I couldn’t find find my post on the “other” social network. lolo
  22. Excellent description. For non-techie like me, a simpler explanation is: blue bubble: iPhone to iPhone. “Magically” transmits through Medallion INTRAnet. FREE green bubble: requires either INTERnet WiFi or cellular data and sends as a SMS text. Usually android to android or iPhone to android. And then there is the rare occasion where my iPhone will display a green bubble when I send an iMessage to another iPhone. Disclaimer: I only use iMessage when I know the recipient has an iPhone. Otherwise, I use Google Voice to send a SMS text to friends who own an Android. I don’t try to use my iPhone iMessage app to send a text to an android phone. Never seems to work, for me. I am sure there is someone out there that can explain why iPhone to iPhone sometimes shows up green. My tech support team (aka my kids) have tried to explain it to me, but I never remember why.) I have used FaceTime and WiFi calling when connected to Medallion Net WiFi.
  23. If you were on the Grand Princess, I’d make the trek up to the bay. Guess it will be another year before I see you again. Lucky for those who are in the area. They are in for a real treat. We might just have to meet for lunch at the Highway Inn. Save me a date in November! I’ll even drive you to Lilian Bakery. First to reply. I get first dibs.
  24. I did not connect the Penthouse with coat hooks on the wall. You could be right.
  25. I was on the Crown Princess and they had QR Codes on Lido Deck tables. I was visiting with the Assistant Maitre d' who instructed a crew member to remove all of the signs since they were only available up to noon. I don't know if you could use the App to order one. I believe the "Juice Bar" was near/in the ice cream station.
