  1. All Princess ships have both European (240v) and North American (110v) plugs. The question becomes what are your devices? All Apple product and most medical equipment are dual voltage. There is usually an European outlet near the bed for the lamp. Bring an adapter that has a second plug so that you can tap into this and still have the use of your bed lamp. The desk with have both. With bigger charging blocks, there is only space for one charger. Surge protector power strips are not allowed. Generic, but hope this helps.
  2. I went back to take a look. I checked the Grand 14 day. I checked the Sapphire 14 day. Similar results. Very few good selections left. Even checked the Majestic...for fun...not a ship for me. It helped pass my day. Thanks for the information. Not for me this year.
  3. I had a kettle in my Ocean View stateroom on the Diamond (Japan). It took up "valuable" counter space (not really). I only used it once in the 9 days. My sister was the grumpy one. But she didn't want my "instant coffee"....but they couldn't bring her coffee in the MDR soon enough.
  4. Okay, I bit.... Only interiors left. Less than 10 with many levels/decks on guarantee. But it is a great voyage on one of Princess' best ships (IMHO).
  5. Correct. If you happen to purchase Beverage packages after initial faring, your insurance will go up to cover it. I've considered waiting to buy packages onboard with OBC....but anything can happen in two years. I think the Plus went up twice within a year ... $40 to $50 to $60. That's more than an 8% increase each time.
  6. About 9 years ago, the Grand had a fire just before entering Hilo Bay. She was denied docking and limped her way to Honolulu where she spent 3 days trying to get her repaired. Passengers were given the option to fly home or get a hotel until a flight was available. Or stay on the ship. About 50% chose to sail her back to California. Compensation was given to both groups. This could have happened on any ship (regardless of age). The Grand Princess is resilient. I have sailed on her many times since the restart. One of the best crew out there. I am sorry this happened to those passengers on this current cruise. I hope that those who stay aboard will have a stellar ride back to San Francisco.
  7. @Ladyshopper23 Thank you for taking the time to elaborate on the different types of vegetarians. I will admit that I was was ill informed. My travel mate is NOT a "vegetarian", although she has always told me she is. She will eat a variety of foods but does choose to have her main diet of vegetables. She chooses this avenue for health reason. On the other hand, I have a friend who has invited me to stay at her vacation home...as long as I do not bring in any meat, eggs, milk, etc when I stay there. It is very clear she is a vegan. No ice cream for her. It's amazing what dishes she creates for our lunches. Now, if OP @Momma Rene would return to get this thread back on track. Will she/won't she invite her daughter to the Crown Grill?
  8. Sure...I'll trade you the Sun Princess for the Coral and the Grand (throw in the Golden for good measure....I know, I know).
  9. Crossing my fingers but it doesn't look good. Every day, there are fewer and fewer balconies available. About 33 days out and bid is still "pending". Might wait until inside the 30 days to up bid by a few dollars. Happy where I am, but would be "happier" if my bid was accepted.
  10. @Kellyansapansa Thank you for your input. I am trying to decide between Baja, Caribe, and Emerald decks. I really liked the location of 309 cabins (Baja/Caribe). It is at the end of the bump out and doesn't catch the wind at all. I liked the curved balcony and the view. My questions are: Is there a major difference between Baja and Caribe when it comes to walking the stairs/elevators? Would I get the same experience in any of the Emerald staterooms 300+ ? Not interested in aft cabins.
  11. Waiters (CC MDR also included) are rotated each voyage. They might stay in CC MDR, but have a different station.
  12. I was going to just "like" your statement, but it deserves much more. This is why I am rarely up on the Lido Deck. MUTS is a great concept. But...all day and night. Then the nights are too cold to enjoy a movie. How many actually watch a movie all the way through during the day? What happened to relaxing on a cruise?
  13. I was recently on a cruise. My Apple watch notified me that I was in danger if I continued to subject myself to the decibels in the theater for more than 30 minutes. It was registering between 100 - 110. I walked out after the performance....straight to the CS desk and showed them my watch. She duly noted it on their log. I wear my hearing aids so that I can put them on mute and still hear perfectly fine. I attended a performance last night and it was only 80 decibels. My son-in-law does theater tech (sound and lights) and says that 100 is way too loud. This has been an ongoing issue with passengers on Princess. There is absolutely no need to have amplification this high. I feel so bad for the CS desk....passengers have to scream across the counter to get themselves heard.
  14. It's been a while since the Coral Princess has done full Panama Canal transits. I was in B309. Loved it but can not remember if it was my first choice. Seeking advice from Coral lovers. These are the ONLY staterooms I would consider. I liked the curved bump out. B309/B310 C309/C310 Emerald Deck balconies a few cabins forward of the lifeboats. Caribe is close enough to public decks. I don't really want to use the elevators. C309/C310 are above mini suites on Dolphin Deck. Both Baja and Caribe have those secret doors forward and aft. Caribe is slightly larger (with chairs?) I am sure there are many Coral fans out there. Only interested in the above mentioned staterooms. Please jog my memory. Mahalo Nui Loa for your kokua (help).
  15. Medallion shops on shore prices are inflated to make up for the huge surcharge Princess applies to them for the "convenience". That said, Puerta Vallarta port has a great chocolate store that sells liquor filled chocolates.
  16. There were barrel chairs on the Diamond Princess...Ocean View rooms on Fiesta Deck. I peeked...I saw...I regretted not booking those OV cabins. I am sure Princess knows their base. I know Princess knows that smaller ships without the bells and whistles are welcomed by many. I know passengers are willing to pay "a little" more to be on their smaller ships than the other larger ones. I understand if I choose to sail on a smaller ship, it will cost me a little more for the luxury. Royal Class ships are usually less than Grand Class ships. I don't know if that is by design (less wanted/can't fill) or that it just cost more to run a smaller ship. Think Pacific Princess....their fares were always much higher (demand????). I really don't want to switch to Holland America because they do have smaller ships with more interesting itineraries.
  17. Yes...should be...open for lunch on embarkation day. With the exception of delayed board due to some kind of Coast Guard inspection or short of staff. PES lounge is much harder to get to on the Caribbean Princess. Skywalkers aft.
  18. Yes, you can purchase Sanctuary for Transit day (at twice the going rate) AND you have to be one of the first on board to race up there for your reservation. Yes, you would be taking a chance that the beverage package would have an increase if you wait to day of. But you are no where near final payment. I hope you have a TA. They could remove the package for you without modifying your cruise package.
  19. Cancel your beverage package and purchase it onboard. That should take care of a good amount. I am not sure I would "splurge" for the premier but definitely for the plus. Take an excursion with Princess. Not your money. Eat at the Crown Grill. Have fun in the casino. Who knows, you might even "make" money.
  20. The Caribbean Princess is being repositioned to Europe next year. I believe the Emerald will replace her. Not too much of a difference since they are sister ships. F For the life of me, I can't understand why they are removing the Caribbean Princess from Caribbean voyages. It's the same as NCL removing Pride of Hawaii and replacing her with Pride of America doing the island runs.
  21. I believe (ha ha) that they will keep the "Love Boat" because they are building bigger and bigger ships. The Pacific Princess (Coral/Grand/etc) is/was...a boat that could fit inside the Sun.
  22. Like the weather, wait a day or two and things will change. Or buy it onboard the first day.
  23. I meant aft elevators.....(Thanks for catching that.) Mute point since OP is in a Window Suite that is down the hall from their Club Class dining room.
  24. If you are going to use the European Outlet under the bed (for the bed lamps), be sure to get an adapter that will work with a European plug (so that you can plug the lamp in) AND either USB A and/or C power block or a US plug that will work with 240 V. Most medical equipment and Apple products are dual voltage. The Grand has USB (A) plugs on the lamps. Very limited plugs on desk. Bring a NON surge protector power bar.
  25. Interesting thread. As for #3....When Princess moved the Golden Princess to Los Angeles to try out 3 and 4 day cruises, they could not give them away. Prices were very low. Then they threw in Sail Now, Entire Fare would be applied to a future 7 day or more cruise. I took it to mean that I could do "installments" (give them my money now, sail, and get a "free" cruise). I booked lots and lots of Window Suites on very short cruises. Paid for an 18 day cruise in a balcony on the Coral Princess (Alaska). You are either going to give Princess your money now or later. Your concept of 0% finance over a year or two would be very palatable to many. Princess would get some much needed funds immediately. As long as it was "non-refundable" but you could get FCC. It would be a nightmare for Princess to have to pay you back if you cancelled your cruise. BBQ is a definite "No-No". Too much of a fire risk. What would I do if I were President? Build smaller ships with Deck 6 Window Suites.
