  1. We have a bookcase full of books written by marketing men from around the world, guess what side of business DH was in? I believe this mantra most probably still holds today - something about the ‘truth’ well told. I will pin his lordship down for the full expression.
  2. Does Viking give the boat contact details in the paperwork before you embark (Scenic does) you could then contact their reception before for the exact location. Have a great cruise and enjoy Amsterdam.
  3. Remember regardless of the cruise company when, where, and how your vessel is ‘parked’ is entirely up to the local docking official your Captain has no say in the matter. If you want to arrange any local tour guides get them on speed dial so you can talk to them as soon as your tied up (moored).
  4. CDNPolar (tong in cheek) do remember that some may not have had the benefits of the upbringing that you have and alas some would not follow the norm as it is perceived by the majority.
  5. Daisi ohhh wow now I can add Father Christmas as a tree topper, well done for keeping him going. 🌟
  6. Thank you Second seating I first visited Brugge on a school trip aged 14 for the ‘Pagent of the Holy Blood and have since been with Scenic after your pics I must now go at Christmas time.
  7. Contact Viking they should at least be able to give you an idea, good luck.
  8. She is like me an elderly lady now of over 50 years and I do occasionally think I should redo or tidy her but she is what I produced then at the beginning of my marriage and she has looked after our tree for all those years so she can carry on. Skinny but fits, at least four Micky’s courtesy of different Disney visits several home made from friends and quite a few Spode (bit of a collector of their Christmas stuff). Today is ham and sausage roll making time. Enjoy all.
  9. Father Christmas and his sleigh playing seasonal music visited earlier this evening, pretending to be our local Lions but we know he was real!
  10. greydog poor you I also have the same problem but have not been advised so far to forgo the adult beverages, and no I have not bribed my physician, I just have to make sure I take my recommended medication as required.
  11. Sorry should have said if you have a Christmas tree! I must admit to mixing it up because I love the Hanaka candles and have those as well.
  12. A time of year water cooler question - on your festive river cruise or at home what would you like most to top your beautifully decked Christmas tree (thank you Germany for the tradition) a star - an Angel - a Fairy. Or do you have something different? My topper is a fairy complete with wand and wings and dress made from my wedding dress material.
  13. Curious isn’t it about the meeting up not happening in American cities considering that the ethnicity of a lot of Americans is middle European.
  14. Well they empty ballast and water tanks to float higher through shallow stretches so I suspect the opposite would apply.
  15. JMMKUK your most probably correct as all navigating on English canals is done from pub to pub to pub and repeat. Also we never had any problem on Scenic Diamond just a fantastic cruise.
  16. I love the number of - for Mechanical - but if that’s what it takes to ensure it works, why not. Question, I know this year has been a real pig getting around the vagaries of the weather with regards to the European rivers but has it been made worse with the increasing numbers of vessels cruising for longer and longer into the winter months?
  17. FlossieC wow nearly a neighbour in North American terms, Dorchester & near Bath, sounds like Scenic are getting their ducks in a row hopefully. Have a great winter cruise report back I’ve never done one myself so I will be interested.
  18. I’ve only ever felt the tiniest twinge of seasickness on a cross Chanel ferry when all around had succumbed a small snifter proved to be an adequate and completely acceptable cure.
  19. I agree with you Jazz I’m keeping a very close eye on this one, something definitely sounds off but will sit back and await the outcome.
  20. My father a Royal Navy man to the hilt always got seasick the first two days out he also could not watch the beginning credits of a now very old tv program called These Valiant Years, which featured a battleship fighting through huge waves - he got seasick then on dry land. If you cruise the Seine with a company that moors in Honfluer then you do cruise the maritime stretch of the river but we never noticed any untoward movement.
  21. There is at least one bridge in Lyon that has been a challenge during high water levels in the past. In 2015 we had to wait for another river cruise vessel going upstream to clear the bridge the gap above the superstructure was minuscule.
