Zaandam nitemares!!!

Serious Cruisers

Recommended Posts

Many repairs, late, late late, missing ports, captain announcements can hardly be heard, was in the casino, never turned down music to let us here we will be missing San Francisco! Captain announced yesterday (lol) he would be able to make up the 12 hours we spent doing repairs to the ship to get us on time... we all knew that was impossible. Spent 3 days in PV, applied for landed immigrant status lol.

No official written announcements, cant hear anything, yet I have wasted paper telling me about jewellery on sale?? not impressed with this captain.. We all knew he couldnt make up that kind of time.. Tender was not able to be lifted onto ship in Cabo wasted 9 hours trying to fix it then left it there. Repairs in PV took one day more than anticipated..

Bad weather I get, repairs, repairs repairs.. I didnt sign up for

NEVER AGAIN.

Thank Goodness I'd read this thread yesterday:) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1721203

Definitely Glass 1/2 full vs Glass 1/2 empty.

Some made lemonade and some could find no sugar;)

This sounds like the Veendam II...........and Canadian Bear mentioned some of the same problems so that glass may not be half full any longer!

I'd be REALLY UPSET if they released a boat from drydock and then had this many issues while they filled it with paying passengers...........NOT a good business decision!

The ship was not just in drydock: that was cancelled and the cruise now is the result of the rescheduling.

I agree with you Joanie..Obviously Canadianbear made lemonade & her last post shows that her "glass was half full", not half empty as some would like to believe & try to convince the rest of us!

Quote Day 8-PV

Beautiful sunny day today. We did the free HAL excursion Two if by Sea-"Yelapa and Majahuitas. Beautiful catamaran ride and snorkel. Staff aboard were fantastic. I got some fun underwater shots with our new camera.

Running out of minutes now but we were supposed to have left PV at 4AM but are still here. They say we might leaving at noon. Hmmm..

We don't care-we are on a "cruise to nowhere" in our opinion because we just want to be on a DAM ship. Having a lot of fun! UNQUOTE

IMO this last sentence shows that she was still having fun & making lemonade!

Cheers...:)Betty

Wow. Same cruise as canadianbear. Really glass half full vs glass half empty.

I have to say, especially based on my Zaandam experience, I'm more in tune with canadianbear.

Roy

Me too. We loved our Zaandam cruise this past May.

I would have enjoyed 3 days in PV!! Canadianbear is a friend, and I have other friends onboard also, so will reserve judgement till I hear more on their return. I have to say though, if it's the same captain as last year, he is famous for missing ports. Check Lyndy's review of her Zaandam Hawaiin cruise last year, and my own Alaska one prior to that.

Who was the captain you had last year? Is he the same one that is on Zaandam right now? If so, sure hope that there will be a 'change of command' by January 2013....as there are only 4 Hawiian ports, I would be really disappointed to miss even 1, let alone 2 as they did last year!!!!

BTW.."released from drydock" meant that it DID NOT go into drydock as scheduled. I know there is a rainbow, unicorns, and perpetual "sugar people" following the Zaandam........ At least a few people empathized with the OP and the disappointment they experienced........OP please do post an update on what is going on......

Sorry that you haven't enjoyed your cruise. I understand that the dry dock was cancelled, but I doubt they would have done anything with the tender hydraulics (but who knows). Things can happen on any ship and any line, so to say never again seems harsh to me. Hard to really comment without being there, but I think I would be happy just to be away and not working! Though missing ports would be disappointing.

i agree. you forgot to mention the kool-aid drinkers, though.

when paying bucks for a cruise - and more importantly using scarce vacation time - i'm not one to make lemonade out of lemons. i want the lemonade i was sold.

Lemondade does not get along well with my stomach, so I don't buy it. But I guess I need to develop a taste for lemonade....artifical sweeteners seem to be very popular.;)

Making lemonade is just fine but the taste is still bitter.

Life is full of disappointments but it really is okay to acknowledge them, IMO.
