Seaside Elevators

I caved in. I have read many complaints about YC having special access to some elevators on the seaside. I saw somewhere if YC guest do not utilize them correctly they can “shut down” the elevator for several minutes until it resets. Is this as big of an issue as some are making it seem? Can someone explain this issue further or even verify the truth behind it.

Do black card members also have this “perk”?

Thanks!

First of all, I do not know whether black card members also have this perk, but it does indeed work on the forward two sets of elevators for YC members that activate the system using either their wristband or card. There's a maybe 2" by 4" dark gray activator panel that allows the YC member to call the elevator.

I primarily used the port side set of elevators and the one that would become "activated" was the front elevator on the starboard side of the bank of four. Once "activated", the up/down arrows would both light up and the elevator would then come immediately, wherever it was. The one time I utilized this function, there were people on board who were caught off guard because the elevator was going up and then all of a sudden it came down to pick us up. When the door opened, they had no idea what was going on and initially, neither did I since we were never taught about this "perk" by our butler, which would have been the logical thing to have been done, but there were many different aspects of the YC experience that we were not educated about that we should have been since we had paid a premium for certain things such as a pillow menu. The elevator thing was a totally out of left field thing that we just stumbled across early on during our week while waiting for an elevator to arrive.

There are a total of 8 elevators in the front two banks and only two could be controlled by the YC bracelet or card and none of the rear bank of elevators had this capability.

Black cards in general have nothing to do with the Lifts/elevators, only those in the YC are able to use their cards and wristbands to call the Lifts/elevators. This is nothing new on MSC ships and anyone who may have travelled on the Divina or any of the other three Fantasia class ships will also know about them.

I can understand this not being known about by new cruisers to MSC.

What other yacht club experiences were you not educated on by your butler? We sail in the YC in less than three weeks and are trying to learn what we can before we go!

We met our butler on two occasions the entire week, once on embarkation day and again later in the week while passing in the hallway. From what I have read on the boards, the butlers were more interactive with the passengers on other ships. I am inferring that the butlers were pulled from the Divina or elsewhere and that there is a staffing issue and thus there are less butlers and more responsibilities aka more cabins for them to take care of. The escort process from curb to YC waiting area on embarkation day went smooth, but after that it seemed to me that the ball was dropped.

We were never educated on the fact that there was a pillow menu for us to choose from, or that pizza delivery is free for YC members or all of the specific details about what's included with the deluxe drinks package. Not all of the people that sail in the YC are MSC veterans that know the ropes and all of the intricacies as to what all is included with the "ship within a ship concept". It would have taken maybe all of 10 minutes to go over all of the details, but alas, this did not happen. If there is indeed a lower amount of butlers available and their time is more spread out, a printout of the various benefits of staying in the YC to educate those newbies with all of the details and inclusions that first time YC cruisers need to know would free up those 10 minutes of the butler's time.

We never even got a follow up phone call from someone to inquire if everything was OK and if we had any questions or concerns. Not very good customer service, IMHO.

Our detailed review on the Divina YC might help with what we learned about the "different experiences." I admit several times in the thread that other experienced MSC YC cruisers WERE CRUCIAL to finding the experiences.

Hope it helps; and hope our upcoming Seaside YC is as good.

A print out of the benefits would be a good idea on Seaside.

On Divina the Butler escorts you to LeMuse the first night (since it's not physically in the YC), so this gives you a chance to get to know him, and answer any questions you might have.

There are some lists of what is included but they do not show things like unlimited free gelato at Vendi or unlimited lobster tail at lunch every other day at the yacht club buffet.

Our week the lobster tails at lunchtime at the grill was on Friday, which made sense since Thursday evening was when they were on the dinner menu and then the leftovers were grilled up on Friday. Unfortunately, just like the lamb and beef at the grill, the tails were overcooked. They were still edible though, not like the totally overcooked giant prawns.

bummer...

we were on the January 13th sailing.

Every other day....large, perfectly cooked, sweet....best lobster tails I ever had.

Must be the cook. On most shellfish, timing is very important.

We were on the Meraviglia in October in the yacht club. When the butler escorted us to the yacht club on embarkation it was the concierge in the yacht club that went over all the perks of the yacht club. He was very helpful all week and we saw our butler every day, he escorted us off the ship in ports and to the cirque dinner and show, anything we needed he was there. Had a great time!

That's the type of service I thought we would possibly receive on the Seaside, but with fewer butlers being responsible for more cabins, the individualized service suffers.

Just got off the Seaside YC this morning. I would like to warn those whose mouths are watering for lobster that it is no longer availalbe at the YC Grill. The day after we had Lobster in the DR after many complaints of not seeing Lobster all week at the Grill the chef prepared a pasta that was very tasty but had just a few miniscule pieces of Lobster in it. I am afraid the Lobster at the Grill is done for now. We asked and they said they would talk about maybe having it once a cruise at lunchtime but I wouldnt count on it

Shrimp? Wasn't there grilled shrimp also?
We had grilled giant whole prawns that were so overcooked they were inedible. And the lobster was only once our week of 1/27 as opposed to the week of 1/13 that reportedly had them 3 times, which would have been every other day.

I had a feeling unlimited shrimp and lobster would disappear. So what can you get now?

The best thing, IMHO was the cooked to order pasta, just like you can get at the regular buffet at the US based mainstream cruise lines.

I would casually walk to the concierge desk and ask politely, “What benefits do I have being in the Yacht Club and what can our butler provide for us during the week?”

It’s not just a seaside. We didn’t see our butler but twice on divina. We didn’t care though because it is such a value oriented vacation our expectations were low. Not have a butler didn’t effect how much we enjoyed. I’d sail yc again for the right price [emoji4]

OK-so I admit. This whole elevator thing has got me in a state of confusion.

What if never use my key card or wrist band-will it work like every other elevator? I really don't want to jam the elevator by accident or take people for a ride they were not in the mood for. :o

Yes, you can just push the up or down button and it'll be just like every other elevator that you have been on before.
