Muumuu Posted June 14, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2018 Anyone know why Carnival changed their filling out of the checkin paperwork to 90 days out ? I have always booked and gone right to manage my cruises and filled it out.

joepeka Posted June 14, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2018 I don't think there's been any official or semi-official (e.g. John Heald) explanation from Carnival for the change. There's been lots of speculation on this board but I don't think anyone knows for sure. Some folks don't seem to care as they don't do the check-in until well after final payment, others (who are advance planners) are kind of annoyed by it. Prof Peg Posted June 14, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2018 I wrote and asked about it last week. That's half the fun of preparing for the cruise. Here's the answer, I received from JH: It was operationally that we decided to do this because of some of the challenges we faced. I’m so sorry if this causes you some frustration and if you have any concerns once you try and check in please do let me know. I will certainly pass on your comments to hold the right people. "operationally"... exactly what does that mean?

"operationally"... exactly what does that mean? Pretty much what I am thinking and what are the "challenges?" I know they will never publicly admit anything so all we can do (those that care anyway) is speculate. Maybe the post above about server capacity has some element of truth to it? :D
Sparky2 Posted June 15, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2018 I was wondering that too. I had already done most of the online check in for my 2019 cruises. I went in to add flight times & discovered that I can't do it till sometime in Nov. I guess I'll probably be doing most of it over again.
naxer Posted June 15, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 15, 2018 I used to do it about 6 weeks out until you had to pick a check-in time, then I did it as soon as I booked. Once I did it as soon as I booked, I had to go back and edit things, like flights, because the airlines always end up changing numbers and times. Once I had to wait to set up my account because my cc would expire before the cruise. So, my worthless 2 cents, is that putting in stuff six months or a year or more ahead of time inevitably compounds inaccuracies.
ray98 Posted June 15, 2018 #8 Share Posted June 15, 2018 I don't think it really matters. I am sure they get more accurate information by delaying it.
riffatsea Posted June 15, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 15, 2018 I never fill it out until we are paid in full. I don't see the point in filling it out early(or paying for it early either)

waldreps Posted June 16, 2018 #11 Share Posted June 16, 2018 I asked my PVP, who has been awesome by the way, and this was what she said about it: "The decision for the change to 90 days prior was due to the issues that were being created by cancellations and changes made to reservations." I have no idea what issues could be created but that's what she said.

karlmonday Posted June 16, 2018 #14 Share Posted June 16, 2018 The IT department needs to send someone down to Best Buy and purchase an external hard drive.
Lottacruises Posted June 16, 2018 #15 Share Posted June 16, 2018 Perhaps they want to limit the amount of information they keep on their servers, by information I mean passport numbers, credit card numbers, etc...
