Seriously though the pool area looks like a mad house - are there more

tranquil areas to enjoy the sun or was it like that most of the cruise?

Hello cruisewest, I saw your message on the Roll Call - I think we're the only ones on the 28 August sailing ;)

We've sailed on 2 other Voyager class ships and there are always quieter places to sunbathe, just not close to the pools. You'll usually find beds and a bit of peace on the top decks.

Second night on AOS, we were notified that there was room for us now on the Second Seating - for the formal dinner that started at 9:15pm (right after the Captain's Welcome Aboad Reception).

This time, we were seated with a large group of Spaniards, so our menus came in Spanish (I can post those if you would like to practice your Spanglish like I had to do). Our fellow guests were funny, entertaining people, so we had a good time that night!

The waiters were also nice (one of them tried really hard to talk to me in English) and food was ok.

Here are some dishes from the formal night (Salmon once again but a slightly different presentation). Bon Appétit !

Shrimp cocktail (served chilled with spicy-sweet Royal cocktail sauce)

Escargots Bourguignonne (tender snails, drenched in melted garlic herb butter and baked to perfection)

Filet of Atlantic Salmon (broiled fish filet served with Chef's choice vegetable)

Low-fat Berry Mousse (light strawberry yogurt mousse accompanied by blueberries and a rich-tasting, low fat vanilla sauce)

I snooped around so goT those shots too:

Filet of Beef (served with creamy whipped potatoes and meaty sautéed crimini mushrooms)

Bittersweet Chocolate Soufflé (served with espresso custard)

With each bite this warm delicacy melts on the tongue to release a hint of lightly bittersweet chocolate : - )

Thanks for posting the solarium pictures. I like that area better. We are sailing August 28 so i still have a way to go. I figure it will be a great way to close out the summer.

I'm wondering if European kids will be back at school. Most American kids will have already started back.

One more reason for me to make more visits to LiveMocha to improve my Spanish is that on this cruise I'll probably seat with Spanish cruisers and it would be good if I could converse with them! Thanks for the photos again Daliflor, keep them coming!

If you want to try and find a more peaceful spot, try the St Tropez deck.

This is reached from deck 12 and up a set of stairs, so I suppose it should be classed as deck 13.

Anyway, if you are looking down onto the Solarium from deck 12 as in this photo, make your way towards the front of the ship, and you will see a set of stairs (on both port and starboard sides) and they lead up to a quieter area. Very close to where I was stood to take this shot.

There will still be some British kids who haven't gone back to school - my youngest son included. August 30th is a bank holiday in the UK so it could be a popular choice for a holiday week. However, I think it more likely that people wouldn't choose to go on holiday the very last week of the long summer holiday.

My daughter goes to school in France and school starts on Sept 1 for everyone. No idea what it is in Spain, but it's usually quite different from the French schedule.

Oops, teachers start on Sept 1, students start on Sept 2.

Most UK schools start around 6th September, some may go back for a day or 2 the week before though. I think it will be a popular week for English and Welsh familes. Scottish schools go back earlier.

BTW, they only break up for summer around 18-21st July, so do not have anything like the long holidays that the US has.

I work as a Clerk to Governors in the UK and all my schools are back in session on 2nd September.

Incidentally, I received a brochure today from a UK cruise agency and it contained a review of the 4 nighter from Barcelona on AOS. I was surprised to note the comment "the theatre shows were poor by all standards"!!

I do hope the shows are up to scratch - with two dancers for daughters we love the shows!

Oour schools start on 1st September but I think most Spanish schools (at least in Andalucia) start mid September.

Day 2 - Friday, after the Captain's Welcome Reception and the formal dinner, we went to the Royal Promenade to see the "Dancing in the Street - 70's Style" - a show that took place by the Promenade Bridge where people were dancing to the greatest hits of the 70s (starting 11:15pm):
