Not So Live From The Crown Princess

No matter how rough the weather has been, the Captain and crew are doing whatever they can to keep everyone safe.

Yesterday we saw this on Fox News. Sea travel can be mighty unpredictable and might mighty.

A happy, healthy and peaceful New Year to those celebrating at this time.

Shalom and Shana Tova. Andy.

We were also just on the Crown prior to your TA. I found that my Acer worked great in my inside cabin. Even downloading pictures. The key there is to make sure you resize them BEFORE you try to upload them. Then you don't use the minutes during that process. The room connection was much much faster than the Internet Cafe. I really can't complain....it was everybit as fast as my connection in our London Hotel (Rubens).

Please tell Mark and Bev Vycital we said Hi!!!

Great ship and fantastic Captain.

I had no trouble downloading the 3D ultrasound picture of one of my upcoming grandsons!

We're really rocking around tonight. I don't think I'll be doing another North Atlantic cruise again - these rough seas day after day are not making this a very pleasant experience for me. Sure hope we don't miss more ports, but I'm trying to be flexible. The movies onboard have been good, though! :D

Captain Nash just advised we are proceeding to Greenland ... the weather just refused to cooperate. He is also anticipating heavy seas tonight. I feel rather badly for him, but the weather isn't his fault. So off to Greenland we go ... hopefully to finally step foot on land.

Hi, sorry you have missed so many ports. We are on Grand Princess Sept. 25 a little more north, Norway, etc.

If you get into Qaqortoq, try the Thai, yes Thai retaurant, good food and beer.

If anyone aboard has a couple of minutes, I'd like to know

1. Do any of the bars (and if so, which ones) currently stock Ouzo?

2. Who is the Casino Host/hostess, and how many smoke-free casino nights can we enjoy on our upcoming 10 day cruise?

TIA - and hope the weather gets better SOON!!!

Our record on a trans-Atlantic is four missed ports: Shetland Islands, one in Iceland, one in Greenland, and one in Canada

wow, that does sound like a record. And to think I was contemplating booking this cruise next year. Wonder if Princess will rethink the itinerary???

What is the addage.....hope for the best but expect the worse?? From you post, guess the Crown can expect to miss Greenland as well. Is that a tender port too?

As others have noted, great thread.

We were on the Crown, last year, with you.

Yes, we missed four Ports; however, Princess did compensate us.

We received a $ 250.00 OBC; we also received a 10% refund on

our Cruise cost toward a future Cruise.

IOHO, Princess did every thing to take care of we passengers.

I have just found this thread and am so sorry to hear of your missed ports and rough seas. We are Corinne and John from Surrey, England and spent time with Santa and Bob (Scampi) pre-cruise, both in Windsor and near Southampton. If anyone onboard knows them, please send them our love.

I do hope the excursion from Falmouth went well, we had said that it would be a tender port and Santa didn't seem to know that, although she had organised a bus tour.

Hoping the winds and seas die down and the rest of the cruise proceeds without hitches.

Corinne

wow, that does sound like a record. And to think I was contemplating booking this cruise next year.

More explanation:

Shetland Islands - weather - stayed far away

Iceland - made it to within a half mile of the dock - was a beautiful, sunshine filled day - great scenery - but too windy to dock (or tender) - size of ship vs size of dock could have meant that ship could destroy dock if tied to it in that wind

Greenland - again made it to within a half mile of where we were supposed to anchor - again, a picture perfect day, and this time with no wind - but an iceberg was positioned exactly where we needed to tender and it would not move out of the way - no other practical place to anchor due to shape of channel - ended up cruising up a nearby fiord, a very enjoyable scenic crusing experience

Canada - weather - stayed far away from the scheduled port (St. John's) , but had Halifax substituted and it was a glorious day there.

Should you book it next year? I would. Our cruise was memorable and quite enjoyable, even with the missed ports

By the way, the cruise did make it to Reykjavik which we had missed due to weather the previous year. If at first you do not succeed, book, book again.

I doubt it.

I wouldn't expect more than one. May two if you get lucky. ;)

Good morning from Greenland! We FINALLY have sunshine! We aren't due to dock until tomorrow, but it is just such a blessing to have sunshine back in our future after such gloomy days so far.

We're hopeful we'll get to tender into Greenland tomorrow. We shall see. People I've talked to that are unhappy about missing the ports, did not realize it was UNSAFE to take us in. Does it reduce the grumbling? Some ... but not always.

We're having a lovely time and enjoying the ship. Overall the crew are friendly and helpful. Still beats working!!

Things are definitely looking up. So far this morning we have sunshine, two whales blowing, and a rather large iceberg. And it is only a little after 9:30 a.m.

Am attaching a photo of the iceberg.

so glad things are looking up for everyone on the Crown.

I was very impressed with Sam and staff when we missed Guernsey on Aug. 23 due to high winds. They did not miss a heartbeat and had a full day of activities due to the unexpected sea day. Of course, you all have a lot more unexpected sea days, but I am sure there is a lot to do.

Hopefully the naysayers understand safety first. Wonder if any of them saw the video of the Fantasia breaking her moorings in 2009 due to high winds? Dumped a few passengers in the drink from the gangplank. Now that is unhappy.

Wishing you fair skies and following seas the remainder of your journey. I can tell seasoned travelers make lemonade from lemons. Thank you for your posts.

If you meet Susan and Jerry say hello WE were together on the Ocean Princess and saw many of the places you were supposed to .

I know that at this time of the year weather can be iffy as it is the beginning of FALL in Northern Climates plus all the hurricanes do make a MESS in the North Atlantic I'm glad you are in good spirits and not TOO disappointed .

When we were on Ocean our Captain could not anchor in Quaqortoq and Nanortalik because of a few LARGe icebergs around and he had to keep an eye on them.I took a picture of one right in front of the ship ..which I gave to him and he said he posted on his wall in his office.I have a video and picture of a HUGE one sailing past our balcony...we are talking HUGE!!!

I REALLY hope weather cooperates so you can see nice places soon.We loved Halifax and Peggy's Cove Hope you get to it too

Safe travels

Michele

Well Captain Nash has given us a glorious day of cruising inside a fjord (sic), Lots of icebergs and a fabulous little town at the end. It has been absolutely fabulous and the sun has held all day.

Hopeful we will tender tomorrow morning as planned.

I am so glad that you had a wonderful day. I have been one of the followers of your cruise posts as we will be on the Grand in two weeks taking a similar route. I don't see a very recent post and hope that means that everyone is now off the ship and touring Greenland. I wish you well on the rest of the cruise.

I think I may be one of the few that has unlimited internet, so you're "stuck" with my posts. We are indeed sitting in the harbor at Quqortoq, Greenland. Another partly sunny day with perfectly flat seas here in the harbor. Planning to get off in a bit and see the town.

Yay! Here is to smooth sailing from here on in. It is amazing how some sunshine and amazing scenery can get everyone's spirits a lift. Thank you to whomever passed my message along to my parents (Elstevedom).
