Going on Oasis Tomorrow - whats first thing to do after boarding?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if there are recommendations for things to do right away after boarding Oasis (or any ship for that matter). We'll probably try to get on around 11:30 before 4 or 5 thousand other people and was curious whats the best thing to do to take advatange of the lack of crowds and lines? Some people say they go to the MDR to check out ther table - but why will they move you to a better one? We've already booked our shows online so would it be helpful to go to guest relations for something else? Or, is it best to just explore the ship before it gets too crowded? And then I guess there's always eating before the crowds and grabbing a spot by the pool? Thanks.

We usually grab lunch before it gets super-crowded, then explore the ship until our cabin is ready. We check our table in the dining room mainly so that when we come back for dinner, we can go straight there as opposed to waiting in the long line the first night for a server to escort us to the table.

After lunch at Park Cafe, go to the sports desk area by the Flow riders and Zipline, and get your bracelet for the week before it gets crowded (do online waivers beforehand), then explore, explore, explore and keep reminding yourself that "you are on a ship"!

We got on and took pictures of everything first. That way, we didn't have a whole lot of people in the pictures. Then we found a bar and commenced!!! :p

I've heard lots of comments about the beef sandwich and I can't wait to try it myself when I get on the Oasis in June, but for us, we usually head straight to lunch and then, before a ship gets too busy, we like to tour the ship and video it so we know where everything is. We've done that on every cruise till it has become a tradition.

BTW, judging by your avatar, I couldn't help but say:

I lived in South Bend for six years, and being a Wolverine, it was not easy. Enjoy your cruise.

if the Park Cafe is really busy, try the Solarium. Great lunch food there too. Usually less crowded.

if this is the Western route and you want to do the zipline at Labadee, head to the shore excursions desk to book it. This one fills up quickly. We usually do our own excursions, but this one can only be booked through the ship. It does fill up quickly. We waited and ended up having to do the earliest one at 7:30 A.M. It actually turned out great since it was so hot that day, the earlier times were more comfortable.

Once we've done those two things, we walked around the ship ooing and ahhing. Rode the carousel and we were the only ones on. Got a great photo taken by the operator with both of us on the horses. Loved it!

Have an absolutely wonderful time!

Have a GREAT time!

I will be sailing her in early April, and decided to book lunch that day at Giovanni's!! Figured it was the first day, wouldn't be too crazy crowded, and would be a great way to kick things off in style!

After the roast beef and walking around and getting braclets (I had filled out all the waiver online, for each activity even if I wasn't sure we would do them), my husband and son did the zipline once or twice since the line was short. They may have even do the flowrider since we had our bathing suits in our carryons. Got a towel from the pool area. Then our room was ready and they got changed. This was all done before muster time.

We are a group of 13 sailing on the Oasis tomorrow. First stop will be the MDR to make sure we are all dining together. For lunch we will split up. My wife needs gluten free and we try to eat healthy so the Solarium Bistro will be our destination. Hope it is as good as the Aquaspa Cafe on Celebrity.

Funny - I visited this thread to reply that you should go to the Park Cafe immediately and have a roast beef sandwich. Looks like I'm in agreement with dozens of other people who feel the same way!

I wasn't that enamoured with the Solarium Bistro for breakfast or lunch but WOW - their dinner is probably the most under-rated restaurant aboard any ship that I've been on. My fiancee and I had the best dinner we've ever had there. Well worth the extra charge. Sadly we ate there the last night of our cruise - if we'd known how great it was, we would have eaten there more than once.

Yes, you do need to wear the bracelet for return visits. My husband and I just did the zipline once and tore them off. Our sons kept theirs on all week. I supposed you could get replacements after formal night and by then the lines should be shorter to get them!! Just ask when you first get them.

I heard the dinner was great also I didn't get to try would like too next time, the 1st night they offer the dinner in the solarium for half price. I've never seen the menu? Not crazy about their breakfast, it's good if you want fresh fruit
