Capt Patrik Dahlgren has taken the VP of Marine Ops position (congrats!) so he will not be bringing out Quantum. I know Bill Wright did when he was VP Marine Ops but that was then, this is now. Who knows RCI might change their minds again before November.

Very Interesting changes. We had Capt. Patrik Dahlgren on our last Oasis sailing in August. Very nice guy who was also great explaining things. Congrats to him.

Not sure when the turnover will occur but as much as we enjoy sailing with Captain Stig, we were just on the eastbound TA from Tampa to Harwich with Captain Manolis and found him to be extremely personable, and a more than capable Ship's Master. As he maneuvered the ship across the Atlantic to avoid any heavy seas he did an excellent job of keeping everyone informed of the latest course corrections and the reasons for them. As a result we experienced some of the smoothest seas of any crossing we have made. The Brilliance will be in excellent hands whichever captain is on the bridge.:)

 

I love it when captains keep passengers informed about such things. The captain we had on Allure this past March could use some remediation in this area.

How long are the captains on or off for? We are sailing on the Allure on August 31st and are hoping to have Capt Johnny, however I see the other Capt just started his rotation. Does this mean we will have that captain?

Rotations are usually 10 weeks on, 10 weeks off. I think I remember hearing that Captain Johnny likes an 11 week rotation.

I was impressed with Captain Manolis when he was the FR Captain. He even joined our bridge tour. I could see him keeping everyone informed. And of course, he is a great navigator.

So what does a fleet captain do? For that matter, what about a port captain?

 

The port captain (Capt Nik) goes around the world visiting all the ports RCI calls on and makes sure they're up to safety standards for RCI. He also goes to ports wishing to become a port of call and assesses what needs to be done (pier building or harbor dredging etc) and advises the port what has to happen before RCI will enter into a contract with them. If a ship has to divert and miss a port due to weather (or whatever), Capt Nik (or his staff :D)tries to find an alternative port of call for the ship.

 

As for the Fleet Captain (Capt Zini) I'm not sure...but I think his office is the one that makes me pull out my hair, lay awake at night, and hit the bottle. He assigns captains to the ships. I'm sure he does more than that, but I don't know how to explain it (captain supervisor? liasion between RCI and the captains?)

 

this is just a smidgen of what I think I know about the positions, I can't vouch for the accuracy. I may be wrong so somebody please post correct job descriptions for us!!
