Enchantment of the Seas Delayed at Cruise Maryland

Some people just like to complain. It is doubtful there could be a smell this soon after the problem started.

...for some reason this ship does smell like sewage.

For as long as I have been reading reviews of the EOTS she has had issues with parts of the ship smelling like sewage, especially in the lower deck cabins. I remember two years ago asking questions about this smell which was reported quite noticeable at times. That's the main reason I never cruised her. That and the fact that there were issues with the smell of cigarette smoke in the atrium coming from one of the bars close by. It reportedly at times cast a haze through the entire atrium.

I see the Pride has now passed the Bay Bridge, heading to the terminal. Think I will go up past the port. It will be an experience seeing 2 ships at the cruise terminal.

This has to be a 'First' in the record books. Can't remember the last time two cruise ships were docked at the Cruise Maryland piers.

Take pictures!!! :D

8am and no announcement yet. We are on the boat and just finished breakfast. I guess if we do end up leaving we will miss a port or two. Of course they will stop at Canaveral to resupply so we will probably miss out on Key West.

If we sail.... at least they have not reattached the boarding gangplank yet.

We reached out to Royal Caribbean last night for an update, and received the following statement:

Royal Caribbean International Statement

February 18, 2012

Earlier today we became aware of a mechanical issue with one of Enchantment of the Seas' two propulsion motors. Until repairs are made, the motor is unavailable for use. The second propulsion motor is functioning at 100% and the ship can operate safely with only one motor, but it will impact the ship’s top speed.

In an abundance of caution, the ship contacted the U.S. Coast Guard to inform them of the situation, and is working closely with them. The ship is awaiting the inspectors from the U.S. Coast Guard to provide us with their okay for the ship to depart Baltimore.

Unfortunately, because of this, Enchantment of the Seas departure from Baltimore has been delayed. At this time, we are unsure at what time the ship will depart Baltimore.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our guests, and appreciate their understanding and patience as we try to resolve this unexpected issue.

We have now been informed that the Coast Guard has cleared the ship for departure, and that it is expected to set sail this morning. However, it will be running off of a single engine, at a slower cruising speed. It's itinerary will be affected as follows:

Enchantment of the Seas will now call on Port Canveral, Florida, on Tuesday, February 21; Nassau, Bahamas, on Thursday, February 23; and CocoCay, Bahamas, on Friday, February 24, before returning to Baltimore, Maryland, on Monday, February 27, as scheduled.

I am mostly annoyed by managements response. I I am also pretty taken aback by all the mean comments directed at me for stating my honest opinion. Obviously posts that are critical are not welcome here so I will keep them to myself.

Several months from now, go back and read your rant and you will probably be shocked at how you sound. It has been often said that when emotionally writing something that you should let the writing sit overnight before sending it and then re-read it the next day. Your post came across in a way that was quite extreme and pretty arrogant but from your following post you don't sound that way at all.

As far as management's response, try and imagine how frustrated they must be They are unable to answer all the passengers questions because they don't know many of the answers. If you addressed them as you expressed yourself in your original post they probably became defensive very quickly.

Re-read your posts in a couple of months.

Good luck and I hope you sail soon. We will be boarding (hopefully) the Enchantment when she sails on Feb. 27. Fortunately for us, though, we cruise almost every month and would probably not be angry at a delayed sailing

We just heard. We will be leaving shortly and will be missing Key West. Both engines are working but one is running at partial power so we won't be able to make up the time. Glad we are leaving though. This is my wife's and my first cruise AND our first vacation together.

They said they will be delivering a note to each room with details on an on-ship credit and an updated itenerary. By that time we will probably be out of cell range but if not we will post an update.

UPDATE from Enchantment of the Seas (provided by TPKeller)

Captain Gus Andersson just announced that Enchantment has restored (partial) power to the engine and will be sailing for Port Canaveral soon. . . The time was not specified, but they would be sailing at a reduced speed.

The Coast Guard was pleased with the status of Enchantment and has allowed RCI to leave later this morning. All passengers on Board will be receiving an On board Credit (the amount was not announced, but will be detailed in a letter that each passenger will receive)

I am very happy that Enchantment will sail soon, and as posted above, there will be no Key West on this sailing. . .but Enchantment will be scheduled to visit Port Canaveral, Nassau, and Coco Cay.

I am on my way down to Cruise Maryland to see what I can see, and maybe get a few photos. .

Well, look at this way. Those on board will get the RARE opportunity of sailing down the Chesapeake Bay during full daylight hours! :D

Exactly. We've cruised out of Baltimore twice and there's so much to see if it was daylight, but at night all we see is lights. We're on En in 20 days and can't wait. It does appear that most people (based on those posting here) are taking it in stride and realize it's not RCI's fault. As someone else said, Ship happens. I hope Peggy has calmed down some or she'll have a miserable cruise. Something tells me that's how she lives her life though and even with the ship leaving this am, it won't make much difference in her "opinion".

And for once the bars DO open, here's a little diddy I learned from the RCI forums a while back...

Do - is what I buy beer with

Re - the guy that sells me beer

Me - the guy I buy beer for

Fa - how far I'll go for beer

So - I'll have another beer

La - la la la la la beer

Te - no thanks, I'll have a beer

And that will bring us back to beer, beer, beer, beer

HAVE A GREAT CRUISE EVERYONE!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

Would anyone like to begin a pool to see how quickly someone onboard will complain that the compensation is NOT ENOUGH.:D

LOL. As I said earlier, they haven't missed anything really yet. Other than a night of shopping/gambling which I think they can make up on their own.

And as for anyone who booked this cruise simply for the ports, most of us have learned/realized that is not why you book a particular cruise because they can change at any time.

$100 OBC would be a fair amount, everyone needs to realize that RCCL lost a lot of money last night with the casino and shops being closed. Enjoy the cruise and be thankful that you are sailing with a premier cruise line that recognizes situations that could have escalated quickly to a major problem.

Tell Peggy hello >>>> NOT !!!!
