Enchantment of the Seas Delayed at Cruise Maryland

I was wondering the same thing. If you know you are going to be in port for most of the night, why not let them off, but then again you have all the bars you need on the ship and even some free entertainment. But at least give them the option if they want to hit some of Baltimore's hot spots.

Go get some Pappas' crab cakes!!! I would just stay on board and stumble back to my cabin and not have to worry about a cab ride back to the ship...

We were driving by the Port of Baltimore at about 5:30pm ET this evening and I was wondering why the Enchantment was still there. Sorry to hear about this problem. I hope it can be fixed quickly and that everyone aboard gets to have a wonderful cruise!

I am on this ship; my 1st cruise with my husband and 2 kids. Needless to say, I will NEVER cruise again, especially on RCI.

I spoke with members of management who said techs were flying up from Miami. They said this is not all that uncommon and that we likely won't miss any ports. LIARS! They were rude, dismissive and arrogant! The ship smells like sewage and they are not offering drink deals.

I want to get off. I want my money back. Anyone know what my recourse is? I don't want to spend precious family vacation time on a smelly boat in Baltimore!

I am sure if you tell them you want to disembark, they will let you. You will forfeit your cruise fare though.

Why should I forfeit my fare because they don't know how to run a cruise line and keep their ships in working order? Also, they said this type of problem "is not that unusual"!!! If that is true, then why are there no techs in the area to address this issue??

Wow... Possible blown motor. How long does that take to replace??? Definately not safe to run without full power. If they get it fixed in a day, what port gets the axe so that they can still make a trip?

Who said anything about a blown motor? It could be anything from an electrical problem to a fuel delivery problem to anything that they may be able to repair in a short period of time.

Except for the Casino and Shops that are closed what is all the fuss. if the ship did leave on time, you could not get off the ship tonight anyway. So what's the difference.

I guess everyone is different on their expectations. I could care less if the ship stood still or just went around in a circle for 9-nights. I cruise to be on the ship. Don't really care if I ever get off. Now, if everything got shut down on the ship, dining room, shows, activities, etc., where you were trapped on board, or, in your room with nothing to do, then I might be upset. But if the only thing that is wrong is that the ship is not moving, then I am fine.

Kind of like when I was on EX after the prop incident a couple years ago...we skipped SJU, had a full day (like 7-11PM or so) in STT and a really funky looking wake! Of course, all the passengers had to take a turn rowing!:D

In all seriousness, I hope they can get it fixed (or put on the marine equivalent of a band aid) and get out of dodge ASAP!

to those on the ship...fingers crossed...grab a beverage....and hope for the best!

Hopefully RCI is supplementing the passenger's fun with free drinks!!

Airplanes have mechanical problems, cars have mechanical problems, ships have mechanical problems.....it stinks, but it's reality. They obviously DO know how to run a cruise line, which is why they didn't take you out to sea unsafely!

I feel so bad for you. According to the cruise contract the cruise line can alter the course at any time. I am sorry the staff is being rude to you. Since the Enchantment is the only ship in Baltimore it would not be practical to have staff at the port. I have cruise many times and have never had staff fly in to look at an issue.

I am hoping things will turn around and you get some compensation for your troubles.

me too, as long as there's rum;)....yes it stinks...but really, safety first...they're not going to risk a multimillion dollar ship, nor pasengers' and crews' lives....they're going to be SAFE!

I understand your vacation isn't starting out the way you want, but are they supposed to have techs sitting about in Baltimore all the time twiddling their thumbs waiting for something like this to happen? They have to fly them in from somewhere, probably FL, which makes perfect sense. What they probably meant by it not being unusual is that it happens, not to every ship all the time, but happens across the fleet. Has your car ever broken down?

Once this is fixed and the ship leaves, cooler heads should prevail. What exactly have you missed so far? The ship sailing down the Chesapeake Bay, which at this hour it would still be doing. You will probably wake up in the morning on a moving ship.

There should be no compensation at this point as no one has missed anything. Wait and see, if there are ports missed, there will be something. But, just as in life, things happen that are NO ONE's fault.

It is the nature of mechanical devices to sometimes malfunction. My advice to you is just, go to bed. When you wake up tomorrow, take a look out the window. If you see the Port of Baltimore, you might have a case for getting off the ship and getting some reimbursement. Maybe. But if you see the ocean . . . well then, happy cruising!

Things break, they need to see what the problem is and are flying people in to check. Until they know if they have a major issue, they are not going to just refund your fare because you want to get off. Go ask at guest relations, I might be wrong but I doubt it.

Haven't you ever been on a plane that has been delayed because of a mechanical problem or a subway or even your own car?

Hopefully, they will be able to identify the problem and get out to sea sometime tonight. If the problem is something major, you are better in port than drifting out at see. I am sure it is frustrating but you need to give them a little time to figure out what is going on.

I am sure you are very frustrated and understandably disappointed but try and make the best of it for now. Especially wait to see what happens overnight/tomorrow before letting your whole vacation be ruined by stress. I am sure there will be some sort of compensation once the problem is settled. You have good food, some entertainment, some drinks maybe? Try and look at it in terms of a flight delay. Sure it's a pain right now but once you are on your way it wil be okay. Good luck and have fun!

Well, you just made me feel good!!! Chill out, have a drink, a vacation is what you make it. Hopefully you will be on your way in 24 hours, enjoy the Inner Harbor tomorrow and Royal should offer you something:confused:

i know this is a tough pill to swallow on your first cruise not to mention all this time and money you have invested in it, but dont give up just yet. give them some time and hopefully it will work out and you will wake up at sea. Enjoy what you can for tonight and get in the hot tub or go dancing or just go get in those comfortable beds.

Is it certain floors that smell like sewage? I wonder if that is part of whatever is wrong?

they should be giving out drink deals but maybe you will get some sort of OBC...

Hang in there!

I think the poster meant that the situation "stinks"....not the ship....:o

If you choose not to cruise ever again....well then....that is your choice.

I love the Enchantment and its crew.
