Chance for your bar tab to be FREE!

We just got off the crown and they started a brand new program and the winner gets their bar tab paid for by Princess!

When you get on the ship and order a drink the bartender gives you a card with thirty punches on it. As you order drinks he punches the card. When your card is used up they take it away and give you a new card. (You put your name and cabin number on the back.) at the end of the cruise they draw one card from all the ones submitted and that person's complete bar tab is free!!

A beer is 1 punch, cocktails and wine are 2 punches and a bottle of wine is 6 punches.

I didn't drink extra expecting to get it for free but it was fun discussing your number of punches (or cards!) completed thought the cruise. Hey, I'm going to drink anyway, so this is a fun little contest!

This was avalable on the Sapphire in Oct./Nov. The problem I had with it is that I kept forgetting to give the server my card.

LOL.......same here, we kept forgetting to give the server our card! It was available when we were on the Sapphire in September, 2011.

Lol, is it just me or is this yet another attempt to get you to spend. In this case it's a little sleazy because it promotes over drinking and spendy. A game I will not play.

It's a business. Of course they're going to try to get you to spend money. If you think it's going to be too much of a temptation....just say no. It's really not different than a liquor package on another cruise ship. They're usually pretty pricey and some will drink more to try to get their money's worth. Or, perhaps a bucket of 5 beers.....maybe someone wouldn't buy 5 to start, but they get 5 because it's a deal and drink 5. Not so much different, IMO. Not sleazy at all. It's just business.

One possible solution: Use a lanyard for your cruise card and attach the drink card to your lanyard on top of your cruise card.

I think we're all adults and can make our own decisions. Nothing different than having a Casino on every ship.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Geesh what next? I won't be playing either.

I'm sure it is a way to increase revenue as that is what business' do. Everyone has seen specials at a grocery store buy 3 get 1 free. Same type of principle. However, I don't think it is sleazy in any way. Just looking at 2 punches per cocktail - that would be 2 cocktails a day and a 3rd on one other day. Now, in every day life that might be overdrinking. On a cruise I don't think having two cocktails a day is overdrinking. A pre-dinner cocktail and a cocktail at a show would qualify. Or a drink by the pool and a drink at dinner, etc.

If it's something someone doesn't want to participate in then they shouldn't but I am sure there are alot of cruisers who drink on their cruise and might want to give a shot to getting their bar tab covered.

I think it would take a pretty stupid person to start slamming drinks on the slim chance they will be free. If someone is that stupid...well, emptying their OBC for a game is the least of their problems. Would'nt over drinking be a personal choice with or without a game of chance???

Also, since it's so cheap to buy liquor to have in your cabin, maybe they are finding that less people are having cocktails in the public bars. Maybe they are trying to encourage people to come off their balconies?

DH and I love having a cocktail or two while enjoying the lounge entertainment, or while having dinner. If we happen to fill up one or two cards (on a 15 day cruise), I'm definitely dropping it in the draw! I'd be stupid to not let luck happen to me for doing what I will normally do anyway!

This is just a marketing ploy that will get some people to purchase drinks they might otherwise not, all in an effort to get people to spend more money onboard. It's marketing that will work on some...which makes it a win for Princess.

I think this is really a great idea. I seriously doubt people will start ordering expensive drinks they wouldn't otherwise get just to get punches on a card. Its just a little added bonus to those who do plan on drinking a lot on board and I"m sure between two of us we can fill at least one card. Thanks for the info!

Does each individual have his or her own card, or can two people in the same cabin use the same punch card

OR If you buy drinks for yourself and others, will they punch your card for all the drinks you purchase?

My hubby loves his wine and often splurges on pricey bottles when we cruise, so this could really pay off for us, lol! Thanks for the tip!

As oppose to this card and drawing, I wish Princess would offer a "spirits" package. I've heard people talk about a couple of ways to do this. It could be similar to the Princess Coffee Card, which I am not sure how that works since I do not drink coffee. The other way I heard is that you could purchase a package for the cruise at a set price and it would entitled the bearer to unlimited drinks, with the guidelines being, one drink at a time and for drinks that are $6.00 and under. I am sure there probably would need to be more details then that, but at least the concept is appealing to me.
