Constant Complaining - Why?

Why in the world would someone who 'recognizes' a Cruise Critic poster while on a ship who is a frequent cruiser immediately begin to recite every complaint they have and everything they think should be improved?

Yes, happened to us.

We met 'a few people' who recognized us as frequent HAL cruisers and suddenly turned me to the defensive to be answerable in some way for every little thing they didn't like.

We saw them at least daily and without exception, each time we saw them, I got blasted with their latest round of complaints.

I don't work for HAL, never did and highly unlikely every will.....

We were enjoying our cruise and I got to dread running into them.

Has that happened to you if you are recognized as a CC poster by some odd chance?

Not nice and certainly unpleasant. IMO

A reason to avoid Meet and Greets.......... this is not the first time it has happened to me.

Ugh,

I just don't understand why anyone would think another guest on a ship should be 'nagged' in that sort of way.

Surely they could have found an appropriate place to voice their complaints  and left us alone, especially seeing they had a lot of rtheir rants just plain wrong, factually.

Sigh......

I think I would have suggested just that to them after the first encounter!

Sail

If your luck is like mine you and hubby will run into these whiners several times per day no matter where you try and hide. You`ll be looking over your shoulder for the duration of the cruise. I assume your on the elegant Maasdam. Give us a sailaway wave!

For some folks, it is a way of getting attention. And they do it by complaining.

So sorry..

I think you're a lot more tolerant than I am...after the second or third time I would have told the complainers I wasn't going to listen to any further comments.

So sorry that happened to you!:(

Sail - I've hit some of these people (and most aren't really part of cc- they either lurk or know the name and think we want to critique).

I basically told them on day one - that they were best to take their complaints elsewhere - I was having a wonderful cruise and didn't want it dampened.

I don't avoid meet and greets. I enjoy them and meeting our fellow cc'ers. The odds of meeting one of these people is so slim that I understand why the casinos make money:)

Don't let these people bring you down. there is a nice way to say we don't want to take part.

How tiresome!! :( I would certainly have directed them to the front desk or other appropriate place to air their complaints. Sorry you had to experience that. I do despise whiners and relentlessly negative people. They drain you.

How did they recognize you? Your pic isn't in your avatar. I don't recall that ever happening to me.

That's exactly it........ they drained me. I found them exhausting.

Last time I went to a Maasdam M & G, the exact thing happened to me. DH didn't go so I was on my own and whoa.... One CC poster didn't like anything about her cabin or the ship and for some reason thought it was all my fault because I rave how much I love Maasdam. I never again went to a Maasdam M & G.

Actually,

WE're OFF Maasdam or I doubt I would have written this.

We really enjoyed ourselves, otherwise.

I'm so glad for those who understand my point.

Sail, Glad to hear you didn't let them ruin your cruise. No one should have to put up with that type of treatment when they are on vacation. It's not like you are a HAL employee, and that's who they should have addressed any of their complaints too, rather than continuing to complain to you and your DH.

We were on a cruise years ago, it was a holiday cruise and we ran into nothing but complainers. Almost to the point they started ruining our cruise but we put our foot down and said no more. From then on we avoid passengers like them. I'll be dam, if I will let people like that ruin my vacation. I'm sure we have given passengers like that something else to complain about - rude passengers but we refuse to put up with complainers so we just walk away from them.

What a shame that people who are fortunate enough to be able to afford a cruise in this economy, spend their time complaining about it.

I've been on enough cruises to know that everything isn't always perfect but heck, being on a cruise is a lot better than staying home and going to work.

Things would have to be pretty damn bad for me to spend my time complaining to fellow passengers.

We ran into a woman like you describe on our Princess cruise. We happened to sit with her and her husband (who was a saint) at dinner one night and from the time we sat down til the time dinner ended she did nothing but complain.

Every complaint was so minor...for example, the waiter poured too much ice into her water glass and her napkin wasn't in the correct spot.

The next night we again ran into them going into dinner and when they asked us to dine with them again, we lied and told them we were meeting other people.

I couldn't subject myself to another hellish dinner with her.

I'm glad you didn't let this person ruin your cruise.

Sail, sorry that happened to you. Clearly, these people like to complain a lot and they mistakenly thought you could "fix" things. After the first encounter, I would have told them to file their complaint with the front desk. Some people can be so rude and annoying.

You can always use my favorite line: "Obviously you confuse me with someone who gives a hoot." OK - I cleaned it up by using the word "hoot".

Love it. :)

Yes.

That suggestion didn't sit well.........

:D They said they 'didn't want to be complainers". :D
