Change i timing for requesting CCL shareholder benefits

I just received this message from Princess, and was surprised by it, because I have always sent in my requests much earlier than what they are now allowing ........... and final payment being made before requesting the benefit was not required for the past couple of years.

" We have received your request for Shareholder Benefits for your upcoming sailing on _____ 2012 on the ________ Princess. The Shareholder statement should be dated no earlier than 90 days prior to your sail date. Your sailing as of today's date is ____ days out. Please resubmit the application for shareholder benefits along with a current shareholder statement after the final payment date on the booking"

IMHO it makes sense to approve shareholder benefit within a shorter, finite timeframe prior to a cruise. Why should Princess go through the process of approving benefits any earlier when they know a certain number of those bookings will be cancelled?

Limiting the timeframe should decrease the number of applications they process making response times more reasonable.

Much has changed since Liza McDaniel was involved with Shareholder Benefits. When she was doing them, I heard back from her within three or four business days. Now, it's two to three weeks...if ever. Recently I had to follow up with a phone call after a month of waiting.

This also makes sense from another standpoint. It means people have to buy and have the stock closer to their trip. Lets say you are booking several cruises over the course of 18 months. Now you could send in one for all cruises and sell the stock. Now, you have to keep it (or sell and rebuy with transaction fees) at least up to 75 days before final cruise.

Actually, I'm surprised that CCL doesn't require one to own the shares for a prescribed period of time- like 3 or maybe at least 6 months. With online trading fees being so low, one could buy it on one day and sell it in a week.

So, I'm happy what CCL is doing. In fact, I'm surprised they are doing anything at all. I think Disney used to do something for park admission for stockholders ut they eliminated that years ago.

Thanks CCL.

I am sailing in Sept. Based on reports of long delays I though it best to file early-like the beginning of March. Much to my surprise, the credit was in my account by the end of March!

Go figure.....

Interesting inconsistency in applying the "rules" for obtaining shareholder benefits!!

I do miss the days of Liza McDaniel ... she was so quick to act on requests and so dependable about notifying cruisers of the applied benefits.

Maybe it just depends on who actually receives your request? Just like customer service, you can call 5 different times and ask the same question and get 5 different answers.

I think that CC needs a sticky for Shareholder benefits or maybe Shareholder/OBC/FCC etc. credits sticky. This is the 3rd thread that I am following regarding Shareholder benefits.

As far as liking this policy or that policy from Princess (via CCL), I agree that they are inconsistent. It's almost as if they have NO policy! If they were to get organized then maybe they would have less work and we'd have less grief. How hard is it to come up with a set of rules and steps for Shareholder benefits and post it to their website?

Submitted our request on 20 April (2 days after making final payment) with a 30 March stock statement and received the following email confirmation on 2 May.

Thank you for your application for shareholder benefit. We have applied the shareholder benefit to booking #xxxxxxx, Please be advise (sic) the onboard credit will be $xxx for

MR xxxx.

For any future cruises you may book, please contact us after your cruise balance has been paid, but no later than two weeks prior to departure date each time you cruise, together with updated proof of shares and your booking reference.

Onboard credit can be used for all purchases made on board from drinks to shore excursions, gifts to select dining venues. On board credit cannot be used for purchasing art work, paying gratuities, bingo, use in the casino, medical expenses and currency. It is non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash on any of our facilities.

This email will serve as your confirmation as the shareholder benefit on board credit is only displayed once you embark the vessel.

Please note that it will not be possible for you to apply for shareholder benefit once you are onboard the ship.

Looked back at the three I submitted last year on 6 March for voyages 2 May, 17 May, and 4 June that were confirmed with single liners and received after only 4 days. Two were thru Princess and one thru Cunard.

It does look as if they are trying to use some level of standard, fill-in-the-blanks email to help overcome the increasing requests and, perhaps a matching high level of questions.

Also looks as if the turnaround has improved from earlier this year. :D

I was going to post the same thing - I was going to say a year. If I ran the company, I'd require people to own it longer. I have never purchased any stock online and since I have a broker, how does someone who purchased it online prove they actually did buy it. With what people can do with computers nowadays, I wonder if some fudge on it - with a brokerage statement also. Look at how many people try to get or share elite perks.

We get statements like you do (but electronically). It would be just as easy to fudge an online statement that I print and fax as it would be a statement I receive via the mail. My printed statement looks very similar to one you receive via mail.

The original post makes sense to me, why should they have to handle the paperwork until after final has been made....besides I am seldom organized enough to submit my request much earlier.:)

We received the same message yesterday about our benefit. We have been told it is because so many folks submitted them and then canceled the cruise before final payment. This way they do not do unnecessary work.

I can get mine online also but what I am wondering since I know nothing about buying stocks online is: what does someone who buys stocks online get that proves they still have the stock six months later? I imagine they get something when they first purchase it. All my info comes from my brokerage firm - nothing from the companies. Maybe each company has a list of every stockholder - just wondering.

Last year, I sent mine in 30 days before sailing and I still didn't have it by the time I sailed. I'd faxed, emailed and called. Once on the ship I had to visit the front desk a couple times. On my last day of a 10 day cruise I got confirmation of the OBC being applied. I'll be sending in my request right after final payment this year.

Also, I always use my OBC for gratuities and have never had an issue.

Quarterly statements just like one does who has a broker.

They have enough trouble keeping up with the request accompanied by one page showing current ownership. Imagine them having to actually look at two pages instead.:rolleyes:

It took us three tries to get the shareholder credit applied to our upcoming Star Princess cruise.

Click on the "click here to view our Shareholder Benefit" ... if you save the link I posted above, you'll be able to check annually for the benefit renewal announcement, as well as for any potential contact change info.

I find some inconsistencies with this new policy - on the same date I requested CCL shareholder benefits for Princess, HAL, and Carnival. The HAL office responded almost right away with confirmation of the benefit. The cruises, in order, are Princess, HAL, and Carnival's is not until next spring. Carnival sent emails, but have not yet confirmed. Princess has not replied at all.....

I'll wait until final payment before I contact Princess again - final payment has not been made on any of them.
