No wonder I can't find a 5 Star Mariner pin on EBay!

 

I have a 5-star pin - there are a lot of us under the new category which opened a few years ago. Hope to get my 1400 actual sea days in a few years.

 

Was recently on a cruise where Arnold mentioned there are <50 President's Club members but only about 25 still cruise. More are 'enrolled' each year so the numbers fluctuate.

I thought that there was a difference between Presidents Club and 5 Star Mariners.

 

Surely someone knows if this is correct:

 

Presidents Club -- 1100 days -- and only by invitation.

 

5 Star Mariners -- 14oo days.

The 5 star mariner pin is awarded after 500 TOTAL days (including actual sailed, suite bonuses, purchases etc). The only TANGIBLE benefit is 1/2 off on internet. The real tangible stuff occurs at the 4 star level(300 TOTAL days) - 1/2 off on wine packages and specialty dining, free laundry.

It seems to me that 5 star should be worth more.

All 5 stars receive all the 4 star rewards plus:

 

2 complimentary Pinnacle dinner: $29 x 2 = $58.00

One complimentary cooking class : $29.00

One complimentary spa pass: $29.00 (the last time I used it)

50% discount on the 100 minute internet package

 

So, about $140 pp plus the 4 star rewards each cruise.

 

Note: 4 Star is 200 days plus spending, suite bonus.

 

Medallions are all based on actual days --- Copper 100 days, Silver 300 days, Gold 500 days, Platinum 700 days, then Pres Club at 1400 days (pin).

We are now over 60 members; you need at least 1,500 days now....about half of the club no longer sails and Chris and I have defected to Viking Oceans and to get from the East Coast to Honolulu for most of the winter of 2017 will sail in Oceania's INSIGNIA. Viking's upcoming 141 day world cruise IS longer and costs more $$$ than the AMSTERDAM's 2018 world cruise but includes much more - only 5 cabin types (with subsets within grades plus owner's suite) - all outside with balcony - NO inside cabins - like all port taxes, charges and fees, tips (as does the AMSTERDAM) unlimited wi fi internet, laundry (I think) no cheesy fun fun fun Carib cruise atmosphere and buy a drink and keep the tall glass and paper umbrella, NO art auctions but instead, wine and beer are included at lunch and dinner...etc etc...and more PLUS NO charge for the Italian restaurant or Chef's Table...NO casino, no kids, no for those who have the time and money it's a much better deal than almost any other world cruise...so we're gone from HAL...

As of May 2016, the number of pure sea days to be in the President's Club was 1400. Unless it has changed from May until now, it is news to us.

 

According to Gerald B, there were about 50 members, but only about 40 active. We had a total of 20 or so on the 2016 world cruise.

For my Holland America Line history website (http://www.halpostcards.com/unofficial) I am trying to get an image of the lapel pin and an understanding of the Christmas presents that have been given to the members by the Line. Well -- I am really not worried about it as we know we will never get to either 1400 or 1500 actual sea days.

I know that I'd really be interested in knowing how many Presidents Club members are still actively cruising. My guess would be in the range of 20 to 30.

 

We look forward to being considered for an invitation into this select group during the next year or two.

It sounds like there is never a guarantee that you will be invited to join the Presidents Club. You might have to wait patiently and continue cruising.

When we were on the Westerdam in April-May, 2016, we had unlimited internet. We still received the discount for the 5*. I think it was around $36 +/-

We love the 4 star rewards, but find the 5 star ones are very nice, too. Prefer the two complimentary Pinnacle to 50% discount! I can see the rest is of no interest to many, but we would do them anyways, so the savings is good.

I agree the 5* bene3fits have real value especially if you would dining in Pinnacle anyway. :) It's really nice if there is no charge for something we wouldebe buying.if no mariner discount.
