Project_gal Posted September 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2012 On any Celebrity ship, if you wish to attend the Chef's Table, speak to the Maitre d' of one of the speciality restaurant [on Eclipse, Murano's would be best] or the Restaurant Manager as early as possible after boarding. My understanding is that the Chef's Table will be offered on any cruise if there is sufficient demand. However, it is not always publicised widely because there is such limited availability. So, it would be worth encouraging others on your Roll Call to do the same. Sue
Northern Aurora Posted September 25, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2012 We participated in a Chef's Table in the Galley dinner on the Infinity last April. While there may have been a brief mention in the Celebrity Today, we were told about it by the Maitre 'D of the specialty restaurant. It was quite the event -- the meal specially prepared by the chef and served in a working galley. The noise level was amazing. We have done galley tours on ships, but it was fascinating to see them actually at work.
jt1120 Posted September 25, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2012 Don't get too excited though. We were all set to do the Chef's Table on our trip to Alaska back in June and found that we were the only two people on the whole ship who signed up for it, hence they didn't do it. Pretty bummed about that, but we'll make up for it on the Eq in November! Hopefully.

Far too often people do not notice the small mention in the Celebrity Today and, if they do not visit the Speciality Restaurant early in the cruise, may not know about it soon enough. Ando Posted September 26, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 26, 2012 We participated in a Chef's Table in the Galley dinner on the Infinity last April. It was quite the event -- the meal specially prepared by the chef and served in a working galley. The noise level was amazing. I am considering doing my first Celebrity Chef's Table this November - I have done it several times on Princess. I have read a few comments regarding the noise level in the galley. Is it too noisy to make it a pleasant evening? With Princess you have several appetizers and French champagne served in the galley during dinner service but then go to a special section of the dining room for the remainder of the courses to be served. Thanks for any input from those who have previously done Chef's Table. Ando

bdpnatl Posted September 26, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 26, 2012 This does sound nice, we will definately have to check it out and see if we can book on our next cruise. This sounds like the new ships tour they are doing. We signed up on the Millenium and there were only four people signed up so they did not run the tour. They did offer us a bridge tour, but we had seen the bridge on the Millenium the first time we sailed her. I know they are trying to keep demand for these special tours and dinners low to avoid disappointment, but it also means fewer people know they are available. Northern Aurora Posted September 26, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 26, 2012 We did the Chef's Table in the galley on the Infinity last April and, without looking at the final invoice for that cruise, the price was in the $278 range for a couple. That included champagne in the specialty restaurant prior to being escorted into the galley. Wines were paired with each course, and flowed liberally. A group photo was taken (just as is done when you dine at the Captain's table on formal nights), and the price included a copy of the Celebrity cookbook. For those who haven't seen the cookbook, it is a hard bound coffee-table type of cookbook, and retails for $59.95. This really was more of an event than a dinner. We were seated in the galley for the dinner, and during a slow period were given a special tour. The tour was more detailed in information than the ones given on galley tours in general. And I agree with Project_Gal -- at times it was noisy but in no way did the noise dampen the festivities of the evening. I found it fascinating to watch the galley in full operation. Northern Aurora Posted September 26, 2012 #16 Share Posted September 26, 2012 How many people were required to do it? How many were in your group? At our dinner there were six passengers. The meal was hosted by the Food and Beverage Manager for the cruise, and another "stripe" also attended. So we had two stripes and six passengers at the table, for a total of eight. jt1120 Posted September 26, 2012 #17 Share Posted September 26, 2012 Noise in the galley? That I don't mind at all. What I did not particularly like is the weight of that fricking cook book! It was a BEAST to bring home from Alaska back in June. Had to take it onboard the plane or else the weight would have sent my luggage WAY over limit. Too bad they can't arrange to have it shipped to your house.

It's interesting on Princess that the difficulty is getting a confirmed spot due to the limited numbers and being over-subscribed, rather than not having enough participants. Perhaps it's the price differential as Princess was $75pp (I believe about $95 now) v's X's $140pp. As soon as I reach my cabin on Princess I'm on the phone registering for Chef's Table - have been fortunate to do it 3 times now. Is it only publically mentioned in the Celebrity Today newsletter? Any info on the website? Hi Beav:) it is never "publicizied" on the net. I went to a really nice "Wine Connessiour Dinner" a few years ago on Mercury. It was not the same as the Chef's Table experience folks are talking about on here but I only found out about it after I boarded the ship (if memory serves I really found out a few days into the cruise). As for the dinner being discussed now? In the Galley? You need to ask after you board as it is not held on every cruise. I am on Summit in November and will be inquiring about it too.... Kevnzworld Posted September 26, 2012 #25 Share Posted September 26, 2012 I'm sailing single on my cruise next week. I'm interested in dining at one these Chefs table dinners. This thread has peaked my interest. I don't eat red meat so I hope that they are able to make some substitutions for me without affecting the options for the other diners. I'm trying to gin up some interest on my roll call, but I think the cost is scaring people away.
