What X policies should RCCL adopt?

With Royal Caribbean adopting the wine carry on policy of Celebrity, what other X policies should be adopted. The two that come to mind are the Celebrity smoking policy (more restrictive and no smoking on balconies) and the pool towel policy (X treats you as adults and does not require your ship card to get a pool towel).

I would be verrrrry happy to have non smoking balconies. This policy limits us in our choice of cruise lines. We had sworn off Princess after many cruises when we were unfortunately put in a cabin next to chain smokers. Now since that balcony smoking policy was changed, we have booked the Star for January. All things being equal, we usually sail Celebrity, and avoid heavy smoking cruiselines like RC. I'm positive we would book them if the policy was changed.

Yea, this would be my first choice also. Non smoking balconies would be great.

That's my number one as well - oh, and please include the casino. They would make a whole lot more money from us if this were the case.

1) I may be in the minority here, but I truly appreciate the "cabin mate" being able to attend my "Elite" functions with me when I am not able to travel with my husband.

2) I also truly appreciate the consideration of only a "mid-day" update from the Captain instead of annoying and often ill-timed "activity" announcements.

I agree with these and would add the ability to purchase a bottle of liquor for room consumption. On celebrity, we purchased a bottle of rum and vodka for making drinks on the balcony. My hubby would have a drink while I was getting ready for supper. Once I was ready he would have my cocktail waiting.

I agree with the glass of champagne. Really makes you feel special. What a beautiful way to greet you, even if you don't drink or ever care to have more than one.

I also forgot about the pre-purchase of liquor. You pay a premium but the convenience is wonderful and well worth it.

Would like to see RCI adopt:

No balcony smoking.

No casino smoking.

One announcement per day.

Would NOT like RCI to adopt:

Celebrity's buffet food and no cloth, but only paper napkins and knives and forks that everyone touches when getting their own.

Celebrity's scratchy towels.

1. Non-smoking balconies and casino.

2. Allow you to purchase a bottle of wine in a bar, save what you don't drink for the next night, just like in the dining room. Not sure if RCI does this or not - was never offered to us on RCI as it was on Celebrity.

Let's hope they don't adopt the no balcony discount as is the case on X:eek:.
I agree, this is the reason we've stayed away from X for so long, although we do have one booked, just for the itinerary though. I can't comment on anything else as I haven't sailed X yet. Smoking on balconies doesn't and never has bothered me so non issue with me. In some of the bars (specially the 'English Pub' which is hardly anything like an English pub these days btw, Boleros and the disco which is disgusting) it should be stopped completely which I hope it is on X.

Smoking is only allowed in a couple of desiganted places on deck with X.

You can sort of do this on Royal. You can buy a bottle of wine in a bar, but I don't think the bar will save a partial bottle for you. You could bring it back to your stateroom and/or take it wherever else you might want to go on the ship. Not quite as convenient as having the bar save it for you, but doable.

Now that RC allows you to bring on wine (like X), these would be my top two picks, as well. I really like X's policy of no smoking on balconies, or in the ship's interior. We can actually enjoy the casino, and there are no bars (like Boleros) where we have to hold our breath and run past on X. And, IMHO, RC's pool towel policy is just ridiculous. Our last RC cruise was on Liberty of the Seas, and pool towels were so faded and ragged that the thought of anyone wanting to steal one was laughable!

Smoking on the balcony really doesn't bother me BUT smoking in the casino is awful. Even on the non-smoking night(s) in the casino there is an awful smoke smell. I suppose smoking will always be an issue. I wish that RCCL would come up with smoking balconies on one side of the ship and smoking on the other.

I love the new policy allowing us to bring our own wine.

Keep balcony smoking, either starboard or port, not both. All casino smoking restricted to one side of the casino. Excellent ventilation a must. Nothing nicer than a cocktail, a cig and dumping money into a slot machine:rolleyes:
