Australia $ Value, Economic Direction?

Recommended Posts

One can safely say the AUD will hover around 85 to 90 US cents this year.

I read today (with some dismay) that the HSBC is predicting that the NZ$ will pass parity with the AU$ sometime soon. Just a few months ago I was transacting at 1.2 NZ$/ Au$. Apparently the reconstruction of earthquake damaged Christchurch is stimulating the NZ economy !

What is the world coming to !

Indeed Flipper, when we were in NZ on Celebrity Solstice last March we were getting NZ$1.22 for 1 AUD. Now it is NZ$1.08. All the Kiwis living here might return to Nu Ziland Bro.

Other way around, NSWP. Silly to return to NZ when you don't get a good exchange rate for your Aussie dollars. However Aussies living in NZ might take the opportunity to return home if the NZD reaches parity or better. ;)

You are correct, but with the NZ economy strong, surely NZ wages have risen ?

Maybe some of the Kiwis living and working here will return for better pay and conditions.:D

And work as a tour operator in NZ, making a motza from the cruise ships ! Very expensive shore tours over there I thought.

....and the Black Caps wallopped (I am certain you know what that means Les :D) the West Indies last night in a T20 match. Just what is happening over in the Eastern Isles? They will be seeking independence next.

Thanks Flipper, no way NZ will get it's independence from Australia. I will ring the Queen.

Neither will Qld become a republic LOL.

If Clive can get Daylight Saving into the Sunshine State then put him up for President :D

Clive and his Titanic are front page Brisbane mail this am. His party has promised to repeal all of Newman's lego, so you never know about the daylight saving.:D

Hi. Have booked a cruise on Radiance for Christmas. Not been on a ship that uses US DOLLARS. When do you think I should get some US dollars as we would like to have a flutter in the Casino. Also -are we better to pay our on board account in cash Aust or Us or use our credit card? Thanks Suexxx

You're definitely better to get USD as you need cash to use the casino. You will pay a surcharge if you withdraw at the casino or onboard.

As for when, there's no certainty. If you're worried about falls or on a tight budget and would really feel the effect of it costing more, it's better to buy now. If you like to spend your time monitoring exchange rates, since you have almost a year, and don't mind the risk, you might like to wait and see if the rate gets better.

For the onboard account, don't pay in Australian cash - that's the worst option.

If you get a good rate, you can buy US cash and use that. You also have the knowledge of knowing what it will cost you in Australian dollars. Again, if you are okay with the risk and have a good credit card, you might like to wait... but if say the rate was at 80c to the US at the time of the cruise, that means it would be costing you 11% more than now - more than the cash exchange cost - even if you had a great credit card exchange rate.

The post office rate isn't dynamic.

Not sure I'd wait until tomorrow, the rate may fall those few points of a cent before then. :D

I have my US from last year, so if I need more I will get it when travelling and just pay the exchange rate at the time.:D

I wouldn't worry about getting cash unless you think the dollar will drop significantly. In a way it is gambling before you get on board. :D

Is it just me -- or does anyone else see the incongruity of somebody on a tight budget wishing to play at the Casino??? :)

My grandfather told me that 'lotteries and gambling is just a tax on the stupid', however, people gamble more than with just money.:D
