Granny DI Posted June 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2013 According to my children and grandchildren there was some excitement during self debarkation around 8 ish. We debarked about 10:30 so we missed the fun! As a family swiped their key cards to debark, two of them caused the buzzers to go off. They were called back to reswipe their cards. Seems they hadn't paid their account. They were then told they couldn't get off the ship until they paid their bills. At this point the whole family made a run for it but were stopped by security. They were lead back to the area near Sorrentos to wait for the police. The women in the group starting yelling and cussing saying they were going to miss their flights... Oasis was being unfair etc...At his point one of the males whose key card set off the buzzer decides he's going to fight the security guys, so he takes off his backpack.... bedlam insued. More yelling screaming and cussing!!!! All ended when 8 policemen escorted the family off the ship. I'm pretty sure they missed their flights. My husband thinks the family is suffering from the stupid virus. This was all on tape etc...I'm thinking grand larceny, assault, verbal assault.....I think missing their flight is the least of their worries today! Granny DI Posted June 2, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted June 2, 2013 My grandchildren will never forget this. They were right behind them in line. The line was held up until the "excitement" was cleared. There must have been a thousand people in the customs hall when we debarked and I suspect at least one of the federal agents in the customs hall was armed. Oasis handled it well!!!! jjaa404 Posted June 2, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 2, 2013 I hope RCI follows through with all the possible charges that could be placed on these offenders. I hope they aren't just let off if they pay the resitution of the bill.
labeachcomber Posted June 2, 2013 #7 Share Posted June 2, 2013 Wow, how idiotic. Would love to see the video of that, it would be rather comical. What a shining example for parents to teach their children, although somehow I think that those kids already are fighting an uphill battle in the game of life. If you don't put down a credit card upon getting onto the ship and just have a cash account, don't you have to preload your account with cash? Or do you just have to settle up at the end of the week? Seems like Royal could avoid situations like this by making these types of accounts more like Debit accounts rather than Credit if the passenger chooses not to pay by credit card. You want the Drink of the Day but only have $3 left on your SeaPass Debit account? Sorry, go reload and then you can enjoy.

Royal's current policy is to allow people to have cash accounts without putting any cash down upfront. They will let the guest charge up to something like $500 before they turn off the SeaPass card and ask for the account to be paid down.
rkacruiser Posted June 2, 2013 #9 Share Posted June 2, 2013 Upon the conclusion of a Holland America cruise several years ago, I saw the couple in the cabin next to mine leave their cabin, luggage in hand, obviously ready to leave the ship, even before the ship was tied up at the pier. Sure enough, when cabins were being called to report to the Front Office before disembarkation could begin (in order to settle their accounts), this couple's cabin number was called. Granny DI Posted June 2, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted June 2, 2013 I'm thinking they had a credit card but charges were denied when RCL submitted them to the credit card companies on Friday night. Visa notified me by text that at 11:43 PM a charge had been made by Oasis of the Seas. I bet they were contacted to come to take care of the CC issue and they ignored the messages. Who knows maybe they found a flaw in the system and were planning this all along.....

You want the Drink of the Day but only have $3 left on your SeaPass Debit account? ===> Happened to me! Sorry, go reload and then you can enjoy. I've always run a cash account, fronting the cruise line $100-200I'm the last of the big time spenders.. and on occasion I have run it fairly low, without realizing and have had precisely that response: GO to Guest Services and reload..then we can talk. Have to tell you this is how it works on Carnival Cruises cash accounts and it works for me but obviously not for those folks who thought they'd do a runner! :D . If it were my ship the upper limit would be $100, but what do I know? .

irishgal432 Posted June 2, 2013 #20 Share Posted June 2, 2013 My friend was leaving Liberty of the Seas and the buzzer went off. They had a cash account set up and had finalized it the night before. They were told to go to guest services where they could pay. Guest services told them they owed nothing, so back to debark. When debarking, a buzzer went off again and they were told to go back. They refused saying they already had and they would like to talk with a supervisor right there. The supervisor took them and it turned out that they were issued a new card when one got DE-magnetized or lost the first day and those charges did not carry over to the new card. They owed a whooping $8.13 for 1 drink. Then the supervisor said they would take care of it for all of the trouble they had.
prayfordaylight Posted June 2, 2013 #21 Share Posted June 2, 2013 Where exactly did they think they were gonna go? Get off this ship and you have several levels of ramps with...cops at the end. Then you're in the terminal full of customs cops. And then you're in the port full of port security guards.

tgnorton Posted June 3, 2013 #24 Share Posted June 3, 2013 We were in Studio B ice rink when we heard that disembarkation had been shut down for an hour. Now we know why - IDIOTS! I agree with previous poster - where did they think they were going to go - it's not like you walk off on to port where there are thousands of NON passengers waiting....LOL
