Winchester Ranger Posted September 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2013 Out of curiosity I typed "cruise fights" into the YouTube search engine and was presented with a litany of uploaded cell phone videos featuring brawls on cruise ships. With only one exception the featured cruise line was always Carnival. Are standards of behavior really that bad on Carnival these days, I'm about to book a last minute deal with them not having cruised with Carnival for 10 years and it's giving me reason to re-think. Anyone have first hand experience compared to other cruise lines?

afreetdragon Posted September 1, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 1, 2013 People are people no matter where they are and no matter what cruise line. I don't think you should base what cruise you take solely on how many videos of fights there are on youtube. Happy "fight free" cruising!
linbobky Posted September 1, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 1, 2013 I have not seen a fight on 15 cruises, 13 on carnival.
Sargent_Schultz Posted September 1, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 1, 2013 Never seen one on Carnival and have been on lots of cruises. I know on occasion they can happen, even on other cruise lines. Been on 4 Carnival cruises this year and another one in a couple of weeks. With cruise lines supposed to report crime statistics now, maybe we will get some real information. Rare Tapi Posted September 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 1, 2013 With only one exception the featured cruise line was Carnival. I've conducted a similar search. True, there are several Carnival videos. But I found more than one from other cruise lines, including NCL, Royal and even Princess. Unfortunately, more upscale doesn't translate into more appropriate behavior these days. :(
crusinpsychRN Posted September 1, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2013 Two thugs in their late 20's were roaming around the deck during the late night Mexican buffet. These guys had been harassing people earlier in the day. One of them walked up to a guy I'd met at several trivia games, said something really nasty trying to goad a fight. When the guy tried to back away the jerk slugged him and sauntered off. People rushed to help the guy who was hurt while others called security who escorted both of the jerks off. Never saw them again.

Carnival is fast getting that reputation from what I'm seeing. Time to check out the other cruise lines for last minute deals I think.

Carnival is fast getting that reputationfrom reading too much of the negativity reported here on CC! Happens to me too, sometimes! Hey... Book your Carnival cruise and go enjoy yourself. You won't have any problems unless you're VERY unlucky. Like most of us in here will attest, we've done lotsa cruises with absolutely no incidents! When booking, staying away from Spring Break and shorter 3-day cruises helps big time .
ferfoodle Posted September 2, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 2, 2013 Saw one fight before - on a 4 day cruise with Royal. Don't think I have even heard 'raised voices' on my 7 or 8 day cruises with Carnival and Princess. Like others have said - avoid Spring Break and the weekend booze cruises - as those are the most likely to have "unruly" ones aboard.

The major cruise lines are mass market cruise lines and you are going to get a cross section of the population. More expensive does not equate to higher class. Could just be more successful thugs. Book that last minute cruise and be rest assured you'll have a great cruise and very slim chance of witnessing any of this! Happy cruising! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. I've seen or heard of a fight on a CCL ship. I imagine if you are out late where people are well lubricated, something might happen anywhere, ship, restaurant, gas station, etc. I am more worried about my travels to the cruise and on the way home. Just enjoy your cruise.
Boozebabe Posted September 2, 2013 #19 Share Posted September 2, 2013 I've actually noticed that there seems to be more "blue hairs" (of which I am one) on Carnival. Although some of the women can be nasty old biddies, I wouldn't worry about getting into a ruccus with one of them. I haven't seen anything remotely like a fight on the 16 cruises I've been on. 9 of them on Carnival.
loxley Posted September 2, 2013 #20 Share Posted September 2, 2013 I have seen a couple of fights. The worst (I got caught up in it for a minute as I was walking by as it spilled out of the lounge area) was a wedding party on ncl.
Elaine5715 Posted September 2, 2013 #21 Share Posted September 2, 2013 The biggest reason that .might be more posted videos from Carnival is that guests are younger and more likely to be carrying cell phones and know how to upload. However, I have never seen a fight on board.

Wouldn't worry about it but why would you google such a thing unless you are trying to stir up trouble? I see fights daily on Carnival, usually over the trivia or sometimes the hairy chest contest.
larkz Posted September 2, 2013 #25 Share Posted September 2, 2013 The implication that any of the cruiselines attracts a significantly high number of ignorant and violent people is silly. YouTube video searches are not sound methodology for making such claims, either, unless one is trying to appear completely clueless.
