Rare Caroldoll Posted November 25, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2013 Does anyone know him. We will be having him on the Riviera. Would he be amenable to having Trivia in one corner of Horizons? It just doesn't work in the theatre? Can someone ask him?
Toranut97 Posted November 25, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2013 Just completed Istanbul-Barcelona with him. Enjoyed him in general. I doubt he would relocate trivia - with the number of people who come out it would take over Horizons. Also it conflicts with Afternoon Tea I think. williegirlcat Posted November 25, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 25, 2013 He was with us on the Marina in July on the Baltic and was quite personable. Trivia was in the theater during the day, and around Martinis at night.
Rare Caroldoll Posted November 25, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted November 25, 2013 to do Trivia...there would be people from other groups listening. No way to do it efficiently. How did it work for you?
Quality62k Posted November 25, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 25, 2013 We had Roy as assay CD on the Riviera and thought he was much better than the CD.
Rare ronrick1943 Posted November 25, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 25, 2013 Sorry but keep Trivia out of Martinis or any other bar, keep the bar's for the people who want to talk and meet other in a relaxed area. Rick
mbpaul Posted November 26, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 26, 2013 We really like Roy. Always friendly, always smiling. Looking forward to seeing in starting Jan. 3.
durante Posted November 26, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 26, 2013 I found his morning tv announcements very annoying! I would prefer if he could tone down his act and try to speak better english, like all the other Oceania cruise directors do. It was difficult on occasions to understand him. I was once on a cruise where he was teaching Spanish and it was a lot of fun.
pacheco18 Posted November 26, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 26, 2013 We had Roy as assay CD on the Riviera and thought he was much better than the CD. Us too. I wrote in my comments that the CD should be fired and Roy should be made CD! Oceania took half of my advice.

In the new world we all have to learn to understand folks who speak with accents.

durante Posted November 26, 2013 #13 Share Posted November 26, 2013 I was referring to his 'act' on the morning tv show. I found that difficult to understand. Having spoken to him personally, I know perfectly well his English is good. I would just prefer the morning show to be like that. By the way, my second language is actually English. And I totally agree with Pacheco regarding acceptance of accents. However doing the tv show I would have preferred he acted more seriously some of the time and not put on the exaggerated accent. I am pleased you didn't have a problem! Still think Leslie Jon is the best communicator as far as cruise directors on Oceania go.
roothy123 Posted December 14, 2013 #14 Share Posted December 14, 2013 Maybe I just have no sense of humor, but I personally found Roy's TV show presentations a little silly. I could have done without the silly accents, black wig, etc. Other than the silliness, though, he did a great job.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted December 14, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 14, 2013 I didn't particularly like Roy on our recent Riviera trip, and I don't think he did a very good job, frankly. Sorry, just not a fan.
Rare ORV Posted December 15, 2013 #16 Share Posted December 15, 2013 (edited) On the same cruise as Wendy and I thought he did an excellent job. Just goes to show you, we all see things differently. It doesn't make any one opinion right or wrong, just different people liking different things. Edited December 15, 2013 by ORV

Sorry, just not a fan. We were also on the cruise with Wendy. He was just way too dramatic and theatrical for our tastes. The activities didn't appeal to us either. Also not fans. JMBobB Posted December 19, 2013 #21 Share Posted December 19, 2013 Also on the TA with Wendy et. al. and enjoyed him. Two thumbs up Roy. JMBobB B.S. And that's despite him telling me, several times that I was too late with the answer to the question of the day...
sitraveler Posted December 19, 2013 #22 Share Posted December 19, 2013 Roy was promoted in May- he was CD on Marina to fill in for Dottie. He's enthusiastic, energetic and a lot of fun. Really enjoy being with him. Best Spanish lessons ever (even though we were going to Brazil)

Nobody is perfect (not even I/me :D) but he is funny, energetic and works very hard (he is also very generous with big O points on trivia :))
RuthC Posted December 19, 2013 #24 Share Posted December 19, 2013 He's all right. Nothing more, just all right. He certainly tries hard enough, but falls flat on delivery. He referred to the showing of the movie Singin' in the Rain as an "important event". "Important"? Really??? His presentation of the news that a port would have to be dropped (due to a storm), but would be replaced with a different port, came across as pathetically apologetic. Just give the bad news with a sense of authority, and get it done with.
rheasue38 Posted December 23, 2013 #25 Share Posted December 23, 2013 Hi! We just sailed with Roy and disembarked yesterday. We found Roy to be a very hard worker, very caring and very enthusiastic. Looking forward to sailing with him again. Rhea
