On Stage: Top Cruiser

Another fantastic idea from the Miami Office. The Top Crusier is now recognized at the Captain's Toast. They are brought on stage for the flowers and bottle of el cheapo wine. Now everyone can see them. I've now seen this on two cruises and the people recognized appeared to be less than happy with the process. Not everyone wants to be the center of attention, some actually fear it. DW and I have been Top Cruisers on a few cruises, but will pass the "honor" to the next in line if the on stage presentation continues.

Hi Orator,

Thanks for posting. Frankly, I'd be uncomfortable with being brought up on stage. With that said, I'm not going to give Miami a hard time on this one, as I'm sure their intentions were well meant. It's one of those things that "looks good on paper" :). I hope they ask the Top Cruiser if this is ok with them first, but I'd probably pass.

If we were top cruisers, I'd much rather enjoy a dinner at a Specialty Venue, or perhaps a coffee with the Captain on the Bridge.

There have always been top cruisers who chose to decline the spotlight. I'm looking at a certificate on our wall right now that we received only because someone else didn't want to stand up at the Captain's Club party.

Rest assured, these folks are not being forced on stage at bayonet point. ;)

On the Silhouette last week, the captain presented a couple onstage who had 78 trips with celebrity!

Although they won't be awarded the Nobel prize, it is indeed an amazing accomplishment and they should be applauded for their patronage by the audience and Celebrity alike.

BTW...If the champagne onboard may have been (cheap?!) inexpensive , it's only because the line buys it in bulk. It was in fact, quite tasty!

Was there a Captain's Club Celebration onboard as well.

The event was held in the theater at that time and the flowers handed out there. I was told that the CC celebration event would no longer have a presentation.

I have also "heard" that the top cruiser is then escorted to Cellar Masters for a drink prior to eating at the Captain's Table after the toast????

Were the top cruisers someone we shared a table with on Millennium nearly two years ago or was it the youngsters?

oops.. or their parents? There may be 6 Zeniths on your cruise...

Hi Arno;

Wish you and yours the very best as we approach the holiday season. It was the youngsters. Still held the Captain's Club Party on both cruises, but no presentations. I was at the Captain's Table with the top cruisers and we only had the usual pre dinner drink at Cellar Masters. A top cruiser friend on SIL TA was asked to be at both toasts and the presentation was presented for a second time. On Connie those recognized only appeard once. Think that celebrity eeds to survey the Zenith level cruisers since they are usually the top cruisers and take direction from their comments.

Really? An award and public presentation for the top cruiser. It's more then a little cheesy. At least your award was for cruises and not for being the person who has charged the most to their sea pass.

First, it's not an award, it is a recognition; Second, it isn't done publicly unless the person wants to; third, not sure what cheesy has to do with it unless there is Gouda served with the wine, and lastly, what does the most on a SeaPasses have to do with it?

Other than that.......

While some may not want the recognition I guarantee you that others will....on our last cruise a couple weeks ago I was speaking with a couple who happened to be friends with someone that had quite a few cruises under her belt. They told me that each cruise she takes she almost immediately runs to the CC hostess once onboard to find out if she is "top cruiser" that cruise.

Don't kill the messenger...just passing along what I was told. I'm sure someone like that would probably be perfectly fine with being recognized on stage. :D

I'm totally clueless - as a definite nobody I'm not quite understanding the process. Top cruiser is announced up on stage at what? The Elite cocktail hour? Some other party that I'm not invited too :o I understand that top cruisers get extra perks and they sure should but why would anyone else care who they are? I won't be Elite for a bit so for us uninformed can you please explain.

Orator, is that correct? With the hundreds of cruises Celebrity sails every year, one the Zenith members is usually top cruiser. That seems a stretch if the assumption is there are 40 Zenith members. In all my cruises in the past 4 years the only couple I've seen with more than 100 previous cruise points was Arno and Joanne. Perhaps you are right, I am just curious.

Glad to here your Connie cruise was uneventful. We were on last week and had a great time, the only negative for us was we came home with, and still have, bad colds.

On the Silhouette last week the couple that was presented on stage as the top cruisers for that sailing did indeed join the Captain and others in Cellar Masters for Champagne (real Champagne) before being escorted to the Captain's Table for dinner with Captain Dimetrios and the Communications Officer, Nikos. They seemed to be having a lovely time.

If they knew the system they would know that you usually know that you are the "top cruiser" when you check in. The CC Host/hostess is waiting to greet them usually in Michael's Club.

My apologies for for the use of award! From now on i'll use certificate. From some of the above post it sounds as though some of the certificates are being presented publicly. Also apologies for the use of the word cheesy! Should've used tacky. As for the last part. My post read at least your award (certificate) was for cruises! Not being the person who charged the most to their sea pass. Weak attempt at humor.

Just feeling for the op and any one else who may feel uncomfortable by any kind of public recognition.

I really don't see what the big deal is. Celebrity is trying to do something nice for their top cruiser. If the top cruiser wants to be recognized, then by all means let them do what they obviously enjoy. If the top cruises wants to remain anonymous, then let them do that. I don't think there is anything cheesy or that it is a bad idea. Many cruise lines point out their most cruised customer and I'm sure that some that are offered the opportunity to be singled out really enjoy the acknowledgement.

I remember reading a post on here by a person who had the second most cruises and they were upset that they were not acknowledged; it just depends on what you want.

On the first formal night, there is a Captain's Toast in the theatre. That is where there is an official toast and where the Top Cruiser on board acknowledgment takes place. It is an event for anyone who wishes to attend the show that night (or just come for the bubbly).

Hope that your cold fades quickly. Not every cruise will have a Zenith level cruiser, but when on board they are most likely the top cruisers.iComments from some very frequent cruisers on this thread seem to indicate that the old system of recognition is preferred. Think it would be helpful if Celebrity knew their feelings about the program.

At one time the top three cruisers were acknowledged at a celebration, sometimes involving 6 people, 3 in each seating if there were many CC passengers. That was cut back to one per seating, then one overall.

If I remember the post you referred to, he was the top cruiser and wanted other people to be recognized as well.

Then again, I have a picture of Zenith a decade or so ago when the award was given on stage, just as it will be in the foreseeable future.

Thank you for the explanation! I've never seen this - must be off having fun else where.

The presentation just started in the last month or so.

While on Oasis, the presentation last January was at a crown & anchor presentation around the rear amphitheatre. Same idea, different setting.

Haha this made me smile. Someone ought to clue her in.

I think that some appreciate the attention. On one our cruises the lady recieving the flowers was dressed up and almost made a grand entrance. I think that she lives on board as it was mentioned that she was on the prior cruise and had many more booked in sucession. She said that she liked to sail on that ship because she like the crew and staff.

It is no different than some wanting to be recognized for a anniversary, birthday and etc.
