Is it time for 70's Party to be replaced?

Sure, it is a lot of fun, but more and more cruisers are people in their mid 20's-40's and young families who may connect more with an 80's themed party than a 70's themed party? I think times are passing by those interested in the 70's party and it may be due for an update at the very least to mix it up a bit. The 70's party is well done, but I just think an 80's party would get more people in their 40's and under more energized. Opinions?

I enjoy the 70's party and also doing an 80's party could add to the atmosphere as well. The 70's and 80's have good music that all can enjoy.

I completely agree, would love to see both being done!

What the cruiselines really need to do is rethink the 50's main shows. Was just on Carnival Liberty and there was a Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis tribute singer. We lasted about 6 minutes. In all of my cruises this was easily the least attended of any main show I've ever seen. You could get in the first 4 rows at show time.

We were recently on the Allure and there was an impersonator soing impressions of Frank, Sammy Davis and Sean Connery. Really do younger people know who they are? We are in late 50's and found it a boring and worn-out act and left early. My wife loves the 70's party but also loves any party that is fun, has music and dancing. I didn't like disco (Long live Rock N' Roll!) and Village People in the 70's but it is fun being retro but I could see it moving up a decade or two.

it's sad when folks don't appreciate good music.

Sean Connery? you sure you don't mean Dean Martin?

I saw the same show last summer on Allure. I had a great nap!

Yeah, he really added Sean Connery to a "trio" with Frank and Sammy. It was suppose to be funny.

The 70's party is fun, but I have been to it a dozen times. Yes they need to change it. Not just because of the younger people, we just need something new.

This is how I feel too.

I'd love to see an 80s or even a 90s party.

I disagree! We went to the 70's party on Explorer, in the Promenade, and it was packed. You could hardly move.

RC won't please everyone and I think they are looking at upbeat music with some humor. The Village People provide that.

I would enjoy the 60's music, the British Invasion.

Perhaps they need to have a "Music" party with all kinds of dance music.

And to please most of the people they would need to provide different shows depending on the demographics of the cruise.

It is not really seventies music. It is disco music. The music of seventies included some of the best and worse of popular music. But what RCL does is a disco night. I like the tradition but I am not married to it. If they changed it, I would not feel a loss. I prefer the Schooner piano bar to seventies night anyway. :)

I especially liked out of Galveston the Adult Day Care Kamikaze Karaoke that was on board on certain sailings. Derek Lewis knew how to make it fun. At some point, I hope he can return to RCL out of Galveston.

I hear what you are saying...fewer and fewer people who have lived in the 70's cruising so it should be passe right? Well, actually, not! My teen daughters loved the 70's party in the Centrum on Jewel! And there were quite a few ladies of a "certain age" still getting their groove on;)

If it was the only party they held, I'd agree with you, but the cruise line has stayed very current with white parties, glow parties, and even the silent parties (with everyone in headphones) being held on board. They seem to have a nice mix!!

If we wanna complain about parties...here is mine... I know why...it's cheaper in licensing fees; but I don't love that they don't play the most current club music and that they have such a small playlist that you keep hearing the same stuff over and over. ("it's gonna be a good night..." "They musta got a great deal...whoo hooo!";) )

My second peeve? Why does ever dance party have to be turned into a line dance by the cruise staff? Ok it works for the 70's party, but for the more contemporary parties? No nightclub I've been to has everyone out "line dancing" together:rolleyes: DH says they do it because it looks great on the cruise in review video;) I wish they would just let everyone dance!

One of the most dedicated CC Princess fans was "forced" by her husband to go on the Allure for a week. She did not review it on CC but on her external blog. Her comments on the 70's Disco "It was like Vegas and Mardi Gras all rolled into one. She will now be spoiled by it forever considering the weak Princess version"

"Nuff said.

However, I like the idea of adding an '80s party, not that, as Medicare people, we appreciate much of the '80s music. On our Indy TA in 2008 they threw a British Invasion party in the Promenade in addition to the '70s night. But a TA has loads of sea days so logistically they have the time.

And we like the Rat Pack.
