sammee Posted January 31, 2014 #276 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Okay, guess I haven't run across those, although my experience is certainly limited since I'm not a user myself. The ones that you may smell are the flavored, just like you would smell gum or lifesavers. Food grade flavorings are used. I've used vanilla, coffee, caramel and hot cinnamon. I think the cinnamon you maybe able to smell as much as someone next to you chewing cinnamon gum and that's if you are really sensitive in the smelling area. I started out with an ecig that looked like the real thing, but it was a waste of money, didn't get much mileage on them, but in all fairness that got me used to the idea to try the better ones that don't look like cigs. There is no way I could smoke my ecig in the smoking areas. It's defeating the purpose. I'm trying to kick the habit not revisit it.

Rare LMaxwell Posted January 31, 2014 #278 Share Posted January 31, 2014 There is no way I could smoke my ecig in the smoking areas. It's defeating the purpose. I'm trying to kick the habit not revisit it. That's a really excellent point. Common sense dictates as much. I could envision in the future areas like the casino going to E-cig only, no tobacco cigarettes anymore. Perhaps certain shows could be designated as E-cigarette allowed. As I type it out it sounds more and more far fetched in my mind, but I would strongly agree that RCI can and should find a way to better accommodate e-cig users. It's tough to figure out the right play. I've also stated long ago that for smokers it would be nice to have real upgraded outdoor areas. Some of those faux wicker padded lounges, some nice plants and lighting. Make it a comfortable and relaxed area that smokers look forward to and I think many would abide by rules and thus get to enjoy a new favorite spot on the ship. Problem is, I doubt you'll ever see dedicated areas for ecig users, the numbers are just too small to make that reasonable. Probably the best solution IS to allow them within cabins and on balconies, maybe that will happen as time goes on and more is known about them. DrD Posted January 31, 2014 #289 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I'm not sure we're too far off topic, title is smoking on balconies, and last few pages have been about e-cigs, and if they should or shouldn't be banned also. Now if we were talking about the soon to be champion Broncos, then we'd be off topic. :)

Ghengis Klown Posted January 31, 2014 Author #292 Share Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) I started this thread, and it's been great conversation. And I've enjoyed the debate. Smokers will never win (anymore), we gotta face it. Whoever said "why do I have to vape with the smokers when I'm trying to quit" Wonderful point. I also understand that people don't want smoking in the cabins. Just felt that I should be able to smoke/vape on my balcony. Part of the reason I get a balcony room. Oh, and also Go Broncos Edited January 31, 2014 by Ghengis Klown

I walked into my own stateroom on Oasis of the Seas on Thursday to smell cigarette smoke. My husband had been out on our balcony and the people 3 rooms forward were smoking on the balcony and it drifted into our room when our balcony door was open. So much for my own space. And so much for passengers abiding by smoking rules. Gina
Debde Posted February 2, 2014 #300 Share Posted February 2, 2014 I mentioned this on another thread and was backed up by others on the same cruise so here goes: Jewel and Summit were back to back while in Puerto Rico. Celebrity has had a no smoking rule for much longer then Royal and people were smoking away on balconies and on the upper public deck. [which may be a designated smoking area-I'm not familiar with the ship and policies] so if they are partaking in port-they are probably partaking when sailing. I think you will find people will smoke more on balconies than you thought. I think they are waiting for a first warning because you are not layered with tar and rolled in feathers on a first time warning I would think!! Do what you want with the above information but don't kill the messenger!!:D
