Slow Sea Princess

Over the weekend I was doing a bit of searching of roll calls for the Sea Princess next cruise the 29 Sept cruise to NZ and I came across this photo on Facebook of a crankshaft

This could be the new crankshaft that's going in to the Sea Princess

 

This photo is supposed to be from Wärtsilä the Sea Princess engine manufacturer.

Was over on the roll call thread and this looks like the last semi-official info received from a TA was...

 

As you know, Sea Princess experienced a technical difficulty with the ship's crank shaft earlier this year which resulted in our inability to

operate at full speed but never posed a safety concern. As the repair was being carried out in Fremantle on 9/13, an additional technical issue

with the propeller shaft bearing was identified. As the safety of our guests and crew is always our absolute priority, we have determined that the

technical issues must be addressed immediately. The current voyage has been cancelled, and once all guests have disembarked Sea Princess

will make its way to Sydney for repairs. At this time we are hopeful that your client's voyage will operate as scheduled; however, this ultimately

depends upon the repair schedule. We will be certain to keep you informed of any changes as updates become available.

 

Doesn't appear to have been an update since though :confused:

 

Essentially a bit more than a day left now to get the thing fixed! COME ON!

Needed flight and hotel arrangements will be sent to you shortly. All guests will receive a one-day per diem refund, a $100 per person onboard credit, a refund of the taxes, fees, and port expenses for Auckland, and 30% of your cruise fare paid on this voyage in the form of a Future Cruise Credit. Thank you for your continued patience and we look forward to your arrival.

Work has been progressing and we have recently received an update from our technical experts which indicates the repair will require more time than originally anticipated.

 

While we were hopeful that we would not need to make any alterations to your cruise holiday, we have determined this delay necessitates changes to our planned itinerary, in order to ensure calls to the other six out of the original seven ports will be protected. As a result, Sea Princess will now provide a 13 day itinerary which will embark guests in Sydney instead of Brisbane on Tuesday, 30 September.

 

We fully recognise these are challenging and disappointing circumstances and want to do our best to ensure you are able to experience your cruise holiday. We have mobilised our shore side team to arrange alternative travel arrangements for all guests, at our expense, so that you may join the ship in Sydney instead of Brisbane.

 

Further, in recognition of these changes, all guests who sail on this voyage will receive a one-day per diem refund, as well as a $100 per person onboard credit plus a refund of the taxes, fees, and port expenses for the cancelled call to Auckland. Refunds will be applied to your shipboard folio. Additionally, you will receive 30% of your cruise fare paid on this voyage in the form of a Future Cruise Credit. The credit may be applied to any future Princess Cruise booked by the end of December 2015.

While we were hopeful that we would not need to make any alterations to your clients' cruise holiday, we have determined this delay necessitates changes to our planned itinerary in order to ensure calls to six out of the original seven ports will be protected.

 

As a result, Sea Princess will now provide a 13-day itinerary which will embark guests in Sydney instead of Brisbane on Tuesday, 30 September and will no longer call to Auckland.

 

In recognition of these changes, all guests who sail on this voyage will receive a one-day per diem refund, a $100 per person onboard credit, and a refund of the taxes, fees, and port expenses for the cancelled call to Auckland.

 

The refunds and onboard credit will be applied in Australian Dollars to your clients' shipboard folio. Additionally, they will receive 30% of their cruise fare paid on this voyage in the form of a Future Cruise Credit.

 

The credit may be applied to any future Princess cruise booked by the end of December 2015. The revised itinerary is as follows:

If your clients resided outside of the Sydney region and had flights to Brisbane, we ask that they continue with their original plans to arrive in Brisbane on Monday, 29 September.

 

Princess has arranged a one-night hotel accommodation in the Brisbane area well as made air arrangements for their transportation from Brisbane to join the ship in Sydney on Tuesday, 30 September.

 

Princess will also provide complimentary transfers from the airport to the pier in Sydney.

 

If your clients have roundtrip flight arrangements from Sydney to Brisbane and will no longer use their originating flight, they should contact their air carrier to advise they are no longer taking the originating flight.

 

This must be done to confirm and avoid cancellation of their return air arrangements.

If your clients are from the Brisbane region, we have secured air arrangements for them from Brisbane to Sydney on Tuesday, 30 September.

 

Princess will also provide complimentary transfers from the airport to the pier in Sydney.

 

Again, when the cruise ends in Brisbane on 13 October, all guests can use their originally scheduled homeward plans. An e-mail with personalized travel details based on the above guidelines will be sent to each guest today.

 

Should you or your client have questions regarding these details, we are available at 13 24 88 Monday through Friday between the hours of 7.00am until 7.00pm and Saturday between the hours of 8..00am and 4.00pm.

The only thing I'd add is to make people whole, Princess need to cover cancellation costs for those with flights from Sydney. It appears they've done the right thing for everyone _except_ those in Sydney!
