What is the strangest thing you have lost or found on a cruise?

A couple years ago on the Eclipse my wife was wearing a diamond ring she doesn't normally sport to dinner and discovered it apparently slipped off her finger without her knowing it. Of course we notified guest services and searched the places she had been that night, including the internet café. I traded her steps and talked to the guy who runs the internet section. Turns out that the guy had the ring and he said that guests often leave stuff there. Rather than immediately notifying guest services, he actually took pictures of it on his finger and kept it up there. Meanwhile, we were frantic. If I was not afraid of being kicked off the ship I would have beat the heck out of him. As it was, I complained very strongly to guest services and ship officers and fully expected him to be fired. Imagine my surprise last year when he was still on the Eclipse. He started to greet me when I went in to use the internet and I stopped him, reminded him of what had happened before and clearly informed him that we were enemies and he should avoid me. He did.

I think I missed something in your ring story. Your ring was found safe with a staff member, but you wanted him fired because he did not leave his job/post immediately turn it into guest services??

We found a membership in the, "Balcony Club".

Careful when you pursue you membership in the club. When we were on a bridge tour last spring we realized that they can pretty much see onto everyone's balcony with all the cameras they have and the way the bridge juts out. I didn't renew my membership in the club after learning that lol.

I don't appreciate you insinuating that I was the bad guy or characterizing me as someone who would not appreciate a staff member who did his job.

It was a ring my wife seldom wears and was loose on her finger. It apparently slipped off and he found it on the counter where he is normally stationed. He actually clowned around with it-taking pictures of it on his finger with his cell phone or pad thing. He had it for over an hour before I found out where it was and easily could have phoned guest services thinking that someone could be searching for it. A simple phone call-not leaving his post immediately. He was very flippant about it. If you had been there you'd have wanted him fired too. Guest services was also astonished that he didn't handle it properly. If you knew the whole story you would have been surprised to see him on the ship on the subsequent sailing.

Trust me, I would have been most appreciative if he had handled it right, but this was just the opposite. There was a cabinet of things that guests had left there. I noticed a large hat that I had seen on a chair many hours before. He had pictures where he posed with that too.

I asked a question. You answered the question. Don't read so much into things. Not everyone is out to get your goat.

Why he would show you the pictures is interesting.

Glad you got your ring!

While on the Constellation a few years back, my son found $1,100 dollars in the Martini Bar. He was sitting on my lap and was digging around on the seat cushions, and said look what I found. Rolled up and held together by a rubber band was 11 crisp $100 dollar bills. Wanting to show him what you're to do in this situation, we went to Guest Relations to report it.

We told them that we found a large sum of money in a public area of the ship. We provided our names and stateroom number and said if anyone reports losing this contact us before the end of the cruise. We did not disclose the sum or exact location. The last day of the cruise, we returned back to guest relations and inquired again and they said no one reported it missing or lost. They said keep it.

Our decision was if the money was found on the ship, it must remain on the ship. So we went around to all ship staff who we encountered during the cruise including the staff in the Fun Factory and tipped all very well that cruise.

You are so wonderful for what you did!!!! I wish our whole country thought like you!!

I was just wondering as many of you are long time multiple cruisers or even new cruisers what is the strangest thing you have lost or found on a cruise?

Our first Celebrity Cruise was in 2004 on the Constellation doing New England. The nights before the cruise we stayed at a Marriott across the river. I was so excited, while I was repacking I forgot to open one drawer and get my under ware!! We got on the ship, started to unpack and I went into total panic!!! I called the hotel and they said they would keep it for our return visit at the end of the cruise. The staff was really laughing at what had happened!!! I was able to purchase enough underpants to get through the cruise, but what a shock!!! When the cruise ended, we went back to the Marriott and the front desk personnel knew our situation and still chuckled. They brought out a bag with my "clothing" inside!! Good service!!!

I don't know how strange but on the top shelf of the closet I found brand new pair of mens shorts still in the clear plastic bag with tags.

LOST.....my DH lost his seapass card at Halong Bay, Vietnam a couple of months ago. He 'thinks' he lost it whilst going through the caves. On return to the tender, I was in line about to get on, when I glanced back to see him fumbling around in a somewhat panicked state. We had to sit red faced on the sidelines with security, whilst they checked things out with the ship. Our problem worsened for a half hour, due to the fact that we had moved cabins late the night before, and the ships manifest had not recorded this cabin change down the line. Eventually we were allowed onboard (suffice to say last on)......and all was good....until he said 'I can't find my credit card'.

Terrible experience, but glad to say the security IS tight, and I am grateful for that nowadays. For future cruises, I will be in charge of DH's cards!

My daughter lost our family camera on the boat and unfortunately no one brought it back. Our daughter ' 16th birthday trip to NEW YORK, our first day on the cruise and our first excursion are in the memory stick and are lost forever if the camera is not brought back to us. IF you have found it please send me a message. Getting it back, will bring back the belief that people try to be honest and try everything to return items to the right owner.

tHANK YOU

Sorry about this.

Many people will take a pic of contact info.

Just before leaving the ship, when doing my final check of the cabinet drawers for things I might have left behind, I noticed an envelope behind one of the drawers. I was able to grab it, and it was someone's birth certificate! I think this was before the requirements to travel with a passport. I left it with passenger services on my way out. I'll bet the guy was really happy to get that back.

I'll also add that last year my sister-in-law accidentally left her camera in the buffet area one morning. It was gone when she went back to look for it. She assumed it was gone forever, I told her I thought it would be turned in. I'm happy to report that my guess was correct (a crew member picked it up when cleaning the tables). In my experience, most people are honest and make an effort to get things back to their owners.

I once lost a 175.00 credit voucher from the casino's slot machine on the NCL Gem. I won that night and decided to call it a night and save the voucher to use the following night instead of loosing it in the slots. Well, the next day when I went into my purse to get the voucher it wasn't there. Just on a outside chance, I called the casino and asked them if anyone turned in a voucher as I was thinking to myself "FAT CHANCE" They asked me the amount of the voucher and what machine was I playing on last. They asked me to come to the casino and told me they would review the security tapes and sure enough, they called and said they had my voucher. An employee of the casino returned it..

Nothing too exciting. On one cruise my wife had a bracelet with a magnetic clasp. We went to the show, then to dinner. As we were leaving dinner (2 hours later) she realized it was gone. We looked everywhere and one of our friends suggested the theater. We couldn't remember what seat we were in, but he thought he could. But there had been another show during our dinner time. He went straight to the row, and we started looking. And there it was! The magnet on the clasp caught on the metal side of the chair arm support and it was still there!

Another time we got off the ship quickly. Gathered all our luggage and drove the 12 hours home. Upon arrival there was a message. One of our bags had been found. We have a HOT PINK Bagolini that we use for laundry. Completely missed it among all the black bags. How do you miss HOT PINK??? Anyway, $25 FedEx charge and it was mailed home. Seemed like a deal to me. From that point on we started putting our cell number on luggage tags.

DH lost his SeaPass & drivers license in Barbados when he did the rope swing off of the Jolly Roger (zipper pocket on his swim trunk broke). Several years later we were on Baby Beach in Aruba, DH is avidly looking up & down the beach. I asked what he was looking for - he said my drivers license & SeaPass. What a joker!

I didn't really lose it because I know what happened to the stuff.

I'm in a railroad club and, on an Alaska cruise with Regent, I visited the White Pass and Yukon railroad and stocked up on piles of brochures and such to bring home to the club. On the last night out, I had all that stuff on the dressing table and got a lot of flack from the wife over taking up her space so dumped it on the floor near our luggage. When we got back it was gone. I called the cabin attendant who denied knowing anything about it. I then called the head housekeeper for the deck and she questioned the attendant and explained to us she was new and didn't know nothing was to be thrown out until the cabin is vacated. She went to the trash area on the deck and reported back that everything had gone down the chute. A while later she knocked on our door and had a few of my items in her hand and said she saw some of my other materials but I wouldn't have wanted them back. She had obviously gone "dumpster diving".

The week after returning home FedEx delivered a box. In it were piles of brochures from the White Pass along with a book and video. The ship had apparently sent someone ashore on the next trip to pick up what they had assumed I lost and threw in some free gifts for my trouble.
