So Diamond and above...would you if they ?

Recommended Posts

It's an interesting question Chip-

Personally, we would not buy a drink package under any circumstances, but just last night I was discussing this with cruising friends, and I was saying I can't imagine why ANYONE who has access to the lounges or vouchers would buy the package, unless they were just paying for "convenience". (Though showing your card and signing is hardly inconvenient!) I would imagine one would have to really drink a lot in a very short period of time, (if you subtract the 3 hours of drinking to be done in the lounge and the port time away from the ship) It would take a lot of mimosa and bloody Mary's to break even;). A discount on the package would potentially make it financially viable for some heavy drinkers.

Nope. Don't drink enough. If I have one drink during the day and maybe one in the evening after the lounge hours are over, I have a lot. DH drinks even less. Heck, I usually only have a couple in the lounge.

It would still depend some on the itinerary (long port days, or are we likely to only be off for a couple of hours in most ports), and would depend largely on the discount, but yes, we have talked about it even--if there were a 20 t 25% discount, that would make it likely that at least DH would get a package (I hardly ever drink alcohol, so it would only work for me if they offered the same discount on the Replenish package)

I definitely would.

I usually consume around 8 drinks in the Diamond Lohnge if there for the 3 hours socialising with friends.

Outside this I'd drink around 5 frozen cocktails and maybe 6 mixed drinks and 6 sodas at other times.

A lower price would be great :-)

I've been toying with the idea of buying a package for our upcoming 4 night on Vision, we are travelling with Gold Members, so will not use the lounge. Now that we get 3 free drinks a night, about a $15 - $20 pp value, I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of a package. If the vouchers had not come out, then no question I would get the package. If I could give up the vouchers for a small discount I would

No...not necessary for us either...we don't drink enough to make it worth while even with a discount...The DL and CL offer's plenty for us.

Ditto -- we brought two bottles of wine with us on our Allure cruise; but we may not even do that in the future....we realized we really enjoy going to the DL rather than opening our bottle and drinking on our balcony before dinner.

I could see us stopping by a bar, if we met friends who did not have access to the DL, as a way to socialize with them and therefore the vouchers would work well.

I get vouchers, I have access to the CL and the DL...and I just bought the Ultimate package for our Oasis cruise in November! We find that we like the lounges for meeting people and the social aspect, but most of what I like (fancy martinis, red wine) I can't get, so we always end up buying drinks and taking them to the lounge with us. I also drink a lot of bottled water and Pellegrino, which the lounges and vouchers don't help with.

I'm going to keep pretty close tabs on it in November, and then I'll make a decision for future cruises. I really like the "all inclusive" aspect and having everything paid for before I go.

No, I would not purchase it because I feel I would drink more and gain weight. I really don't consume that many drinks in a day, a couple in the CL each evening and about 2 frozen drinks for the entire cruise. Now hubby would purchase it immediately if they had a better selection of Cabernet wines by the glasses besides their Clos du Bois. If they offer a bigger discount down the road, I'm not telling him :)

I have never seen Clos du Bois as an offering in the CL or DL - that would be a big improvement over the St. Martin (sp) that I've always seen since La Terrible came off the menu.

It would depend on the price and what we could get with it.

With the introduction of the drinks vouchers across more ships and obviously heading to a fleet wide situation, I was wondering.

Would you be more likely to purchase a drinks package if they offered a reduced price to Diamond Members and above. At present many of those with access to a DL or CL choose not to purchase a drinks package, but if they reduced the price of the packages by an amount to reflect the 3 vouchers given each day, would you then consider buying the package to cover the times when the lounges are not open. I certainly would :D

.

In my view that is something RCCL should consider if availability to free drinks is to remain as a perk of the higher levels of the loyalty program.
