When was your 1st cruise and how much you pay for it?

Our first was August, 1980 on the SS Norway. We paid around 1,000 pp for an inside cabin. We had the great fortune of being greeted by Hurricane Allen, which was the worst hurricane of the century at that point in time.

We had 40 foot waves, and it made is so much more memorable, and loved it so much, we thought, why not keep doing this over and over.

February 2004 on Navigator; balcony cabin on Deck 10, cabin 1662 (D1); It was just WOW from the moment we stepped on -- it was all arranged by friends who we will cruising with who were seasoned cruisers at the time already. Unfortunately, we can't remember many of the details....it was just unbelievable.

Cost of trip $1100 per person. We did not have airfare costs, since we live in S. Florida. That has enabled us to go on 14 more cruises since then with out 16th cruise booked for Indy sailing Valentines Day 2015.

I know I had one bad day on that cruise....it was Wednesday, which was the night that the Midnight Buffet was held. I wasn't sick, but I have scoliosis and the soft rocking of the ship had become painful to my hips. I was given a little advice by a fellow passenger to walk with my feet slightly apart to help with my balance...and viola by Thursday, all was much better.

I missed the Midnight Buffet, but really did not need more food.

We plan on going on Navigator when she returns to S. Florida as her home port for awhile. I want to go back to experience again, what I can't remember now.....and what they have added to her, FLOWRIDER, which is wonderful.

My first cruise was Costa Carla C, March 1979, 7 night Caribbean/Central America from San Juan, PR about $800 (1 person) which included air to San Juan and all transfers.

On the last night before our return to San Juan, another Costa cruise ship, MS Angelina Lauro, burned out in St Thomas. I will always remember that evening but it did not deter me from taking another cruise the following year.

By chance, was anyone else in St Thomas that tragic evening ?

The first cruise was in 1996 Sovereign of the Seas, 7 Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise out of Miami. PORTS OF CALL: Miami, Florida; Labadee, Haiti; San Juan, Puerto Rico: Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; Coco Cay, Bahamas; Miami, Florida

Never dreamt about cruising, but got an offer from my preferred airline - 200.000 air miles for two people - first cruise out of 21 cruises.

Our first cruise was Sovereign of the Seas in Marsh 1996. Eastern Carib. 7 night, inside cabin. I believe it cost about $1000 per person total including airfare, booked thr RC. Our best priced cruise was booked a few weeks after 9-11-01. I got a 4 night Bahamas , in .Jan. 2002, inside room for 4 (2 were young kids)cruise on Sovereign of the Seas for $200 pp, no airfare. I can't remember if the kids were cheaper.

Our first cruise was on the Sun Princess in Nov 1998 on my daughter's 10th birthday. We were in an inside cabin and paid around $1600. On our next cruise the year after on the Grand Princess, we tried a balcony and haven't looked back. I'm not sure we could ever go back to an inside.

We're now loyal to RCI and cruise once, sometimes twice a year.

I did a search and couldn't find anything similar to this.......so here goes.....

So not only price you paid, but what was the ship and cabin type (some of you may need to burn some brain cells to come up with this :D )

My first cruise was April 1987 on the (original) Holland America's Nieuw Amsterdam......I think we paid in the neighborhood of about $599 pp for pretty much an entry level inside cabin.

I'm thinking that in the price was the port taxes of about ? $39pp and Gov't taxes of probably like $15pp.......those are a little different now.

As a sidebar, has anybody gone through the Panama Canal in the last year or so? For a 10 night cruise, you're looking at about $600pp for both of those taxes !! (give or take depending on the cruise line) They're going to have that new canal paid off in no time......do the math......how much they making off that ship ? Mind boogling

our first cruise was 1979 on the song of norway eastern caribbean.

we paid $865 pp including air from california.

Our first cruise was in 1984 on NCL's Starward. We cruised with our 2 daughters and had an outside room. I think we paid 499/pp for the adults and 199/pp for the children. At that time we thought the ship was huge - 450 feet and about 750 passengers - times sure have changed! We had a great time and this was the start of our cruise addiction. We never imagined that we would be fortunate enough to see so much of the world on cruise vacations.

in 1988 the newly built and christened "Crown Odyssey" she was part of Royal Cruise Lines not to be confused with Royal Carribean Cruise Lines....1n 1989 Royal Cruise Lines was bought by Norwegian Cruise Lines and the ship was renamed the Norwegian Crown.

aboard the Crown Oddyssey for a 7 day Carribean cruise in an oceanview stateroom for 2 adults i paid $697.00 total (that included all taxes and port fees) also an additional $50 credit each towards our bar bill was a booking perk we received.

another booking perk ~ each received 2 free excursions of our choice.

2 formal nights with all attired as such....all other nights men were required to wear jackets & tie and women wore dresses.

ALL meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner) were excellent with quite an assortment offered at each...even had 2 lobster nights that served whole 2 lb. lobsters not small tails like we see today.

i might add the price covered all aboard activities which were many....only exceptions being bingo ~ casino ~ spa.

many aspects of the 1988 cruise can be duplicated today...:) ~ (but not the for the cost we paid and perks received) if cruising today

Our first cruise was on Emerald of the Seas; Admiral Cruise Lines. Sail date was Sept. 1981. We had an inside cabin. Total price for two was $600.00 and that was the beginning of our great adventure.:)

Forgive a senior moment. Total cost of this cruise was $300.00 total for two not $600.00.:D

Nordic Prince in October, 1973. It cost us $500 for the two of us, including roundtrip air from SFO-Miami the day before. It also included an overnight hotel, too. Tips were extra. 7 nights Eastern Caribbean.

We got upgraded on our first cruise to an ocean view. No balconies back then.

First cruise - Oasis of the Seas inaugural Dec 2009... Originally booked @ $1829pp but thanks to a few price drops ended up at $1479pp

You'd think that was for minimally a JS... Nope... for a "larger interior"

Ouch!

Nov 1st. 2013. Celebrity Reflection 16 night Trans Atlantic.

$870pp (including all taxes & port charges) 2A Balcony.

Keep asking ourselves why we waited so long to give cruising a try.

Hopefully we will be able to average at least two a year for a while because we have had such great times.

I didn't pay for the first 3 of my cruises so can't say how much it cost. The first one was in 1962, 2nd one was in 1976. Both were TA both onQE2, the third in 1981 on Carnival's Carnivale Bahamas cruise.
