Positive Things you love on cruise ship

Leave on a cruise with 83 yr. young with my dad tomorrow. You do not see a lot of father and daughters cruising alone together. DH will stay home and dad and I enjoy sharing old memories. My mom passed away 8 yr. ago and he thought he would never cruise again. Drinks on the balcony, casino fun and wonderful dinners with my dad, priceless... Heather

I lost my Dad 22 years ago. He always wanted to go on a cruise, my Mum not so much. They cruised to Alaska with my Aunt & Uncle (avid cruisers) several years before he passed. So glad he got to realize his dream. My Mum, Aunt & Uncle have all passed but we are carrying the cruise tradition. Our 1st drink on board is to them.

What a great thread! Everything about a cruise is fabulous! My very favorite, soul-satisfying parts are ones that others have already said, but my top five countdown would be:

 

5. Watching the endless ocean

4. Being rocked to sleep

3. Being unplugged. Unless the emergency is big enough to call the ship, I won't hear about it.

2. The sheer pleasure of no responsibilities, no chores, no 'real' world.

1. The quality time with loved ones. Typically cruise vacations are just my husband and I - an amazing time to focus on each other and us. However, my last two cruises have been with my in-laws and then my family. Those trips became really precious.

 

From the moment I book a cruise, I am a happier girl. Cannot wait for my first cruise on Celebrity!

That is exactly the way I feel too. I take a deep sigh of relief once the muster is over, and let the fun begin!! I know several of you have mentioned being rocked to sleep. I love that too; however, the last 2 cruises have had such smooth seas I hardly felt any rocking. I missed it!!!

The things I love about cruising starts before I even get on the ship.

 

I love flying into the home port a few days before the cruise, and exploring.

 

The fact that I don't have to be Me for 10 days or so.

 

Turning the phones off so DH can't get called. :)

 

Sitting on the balcony with DH at sail away, watching the "pier runners."

 

Putting on a dress (either casual or formal) for dinner.

 

Meeting new people at trivia or while sharing tables during meals.

 

Strolling on the decks in the evening with DH and seeing other cruise ships on the horizon.

 

 

 

Reading threads like this just makes me smile. thanks for starting this one. :)

Only 30 something days before repeating the cruise experience....just love ...

 

driving around the corner to the port and catch that first glimpse of your ship....

 

walking up the gangway and being welcomed....

 

opening up the stateroom door and taking everything in...

 

standing on your balcony, glass of wine in hand, at sail away....

 

breakfast on the balcony....whilst watching the port come into view....

 

dressing up for supper and knowing you don't have to go outside in the cold and snow or hop in the car to get to your favorite restaurant.....

 

ticking off my bucket list....visiting all those lovely countries....

 

eating all those wonderful meals and the glamour of the dinning experience...

 

sitting on the balcony watching the waves...

 

spending precious time with my hubby, making memories to last....

I get the "James Bond" comments most often when I am wearing my white dinner jacket/tux and playing roullette.

Our first cruise was on the brand new Infinity in May 2001. She was literally two months old when we boarded. That cruise was so amazingly spectacular that we were hooked on cruising ever since. I have a picture of us holding on to the railings and not wanting to let go during our disembarkation. We absolutely did not want to get off that ship.

AHHH the things I love most:

 

1. Getting up super early and putting towels on 4 or 5 chairs at the pool area even though we wont be using them until later in the afternoon

 

2. The first of many contiguous cigarettes on our balcony

 

3. Dressing up in my best cut off jean shorts and finest t shirt on formal nights n the MDR

 

4. one last pre trip review of that comforting and inspiring website provided by X

 

5. Knowing that for however many days we have ,the kids will be allowed to do whatever they want, to anyone they want and until as late as they want

 

6. Meeting the security personnel on each and every cruise ship we have traveled

 

And last but not least

 

7. Finding some reason or other to go to the Customer Service desk and demand something be changed or that I at least get some serious compensation for my issue.

The Truth "RichStowe" (if you CAN handle it) is I like EVERYTHING about a cruise-- I like the lines , I like the quiet, I like the noise, I like the lines waiting to get on and off-- I really just like it all. And the reason is-- I completely relax and let the experts take care of all the requirements while I just enjoy every second of the wind, the sun, the food the drinks and the people.

 

Everything seems more interesting 200 miles offshore or near a Caribbean island, doesn't it?
