Alsgal12 Posted November 11, 2014 #1401 Share Posted November 11, 2014 Welcome home to all the Quantum Cruisers and thanks to everyone who took the time from their holiday to post updates and photos! Can anyone clarify please if there is a cigar bar indoors? Smoking in the Casino? are there restricted deck areas to smoke or can you smoke anywhere outside & starboard? I asked much earlier in the thread but cant seem to see an answer apart from that you can smoke cigars at North Star Bar. Thanks again for all the info- excitement levels are high here in advance of our turn on Quantum in a few weeks :)

MindyJohn Posted November 11, 2014 #1403 Share Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Good morning gang ! Where's my Mimosa and NYC skyline? That was a great ending the cruise:D So glad to hear you're OK Dan. What a shock that was for you !!! I've had an odd "balcony" injury to my hand. When moving the locking handle it popped into place with a lot of pressure and whacked the bottom of my pointer. In seconds it was swollen up like a new knuckle. Ice helped though and it doesn't really hurt. Sure ugly though, about a third of my hand is purple and puffy like a black eye. Yesterday flying home we had a stop in Denver with a mini-blizzard going on briefly. I've noticed I'm still rocking a bit too. Haven't received my electronic comment form - anyone else ? I noticed Carolyn Brown has posted her official CC review of the crossing. http://www.cruisecritic.com/blog/index.php/2014/11/10/just-back-from-quantum-of-the-seas-hits-misses/ I'm going to miss everyone - Happy Trails to you ! JEDIKNIGHT Posted November 11, 2014 #1404 Share Posted November 11, 2014 Has anyone gotten their temperature in their rooms lower than 71 degrees or unlocked? Another site that people are posting on has stated that the thermostats says "locked" and won't go lower than 71 degrees. I hope they unlocked the thermostats! Ok I know i'll get flamed. But I need the room cool. If this is true, I'm canceling my February cruise on Quantum today.
devdale Posted November 11, 2014 #1405 Share Posted November 11, 2014 I don't want to get specific, but I am getting nervous about our flight time when we dock. Using award miles is limiting so I could only get an 11:30 am flight out of LaGuardia. I have a car scheduled for 8:30. Will walking off with luggage be our only option? I'm hoping the next couple of cruises help iron out the process - we sail Dec. 1. Thanks for all the information you have provided in this thread. Unless they have changed the arrival time from when Explorer was doing the itineraries, it would be very difficult to make it outside the terminal by 8:30am even if you have luggage tag #1. tmart011 Posted November 11, 2014 #1413 Share Posted November 11, 2014 It's a flaw with Dynamic Dining yet to be worked out. In the MDR days, with the same waiter, my wife would get the next days menus after dinner. She could then choose her food and have it prepared gluten free. In DD, she didn't have that option. She was forced to choose generally only one item that happened to be gluten free. On day four, she met the Hotel Director after a C&A function. He admitted it was an issue that had yet to be addressed. As a temporary fix, he told her to go early in the day to the restaurant we were using that night and ask for the chef to prepare items for her. This worked but was a little cumbersome. I will say the specialty restaurants (Chops & Jamies) were able to offer several excellent gluten free items. On a side note, they did have gluten free pizza in Sorrentos which was a treat for her. We're back on for the inaugural and hope they've improved the process by then. thanks for the follow up, first cruise and only diagnosed celiac a year or so ago so admittedly nervous
JEDIKNIGHT Posted November 11, 2014 #1414 Share Posted November 11, 2014 Karen I must admit - that "bug" crawling around in your signature had me going. I must've tried to "get it" on my laptop screen for awhile and then I was worried that it had crawled inside my computer - lol

I asked much earlier in the thread but cant seem to see an answer apart from that you can smoke cigars at North Star Bar. Thanks again for all the info- excitement levels are high here in advance of our turn on Quantum in a few weeks :) I don't smoke, so am probably not the best person to answer smoking questions, but will tell you what I know. At one point very early on they said Quantum is a no smoking ship in one of the announcements. I think it was mainly aimed at getting people not to smoke on the balconies. Given the weather the first several days I don't think that ended up much of a problem anyways. By the end of the week the Casino was fairly smokey so evidently it is allowed there. None of the indoor bars were evidently able to offer smoking. There was a bar on the pool deck and lots of comfortable covered sitting essentially walled on 3 sides where many people went to smoke. Lots of ash trays were made available for this. Although we don't smoke, we often sat there a bit in the evenings because it was so comfortable. We also found a mostly enclosed smoking area on deck 5 starboard. I saw people smoking cigars there on the evening we came across it. Other than these areas, we did not see any smoking. Possibly it was not done on the upper deck 15 because of how windy it was and not due to any ban there. We did not know smoking was allowed at the North Star bar because we never saw it, but wind was probably involved there.

Thermostats were initially at a 71 degree set point. For many on this cruise, it did not matter as the blower system in their cabin did not initially work, including for us. We finally flagged down a couple maintenance workers we saw walking past our cabin on day 3 and they made sure the blower was fixed in our room. The set temperature was reset lower as well. Some said if you tried to make any change it simply went back to the 71 degree set point. We don't know as we were very happy with the new set point. A few claimed it returned to 71 and required maintenance reset if you pulled out your card in the little holder that allowed the power on in your room. We were able to remove ours without reset, and it even maintained temperature in the absence of a card. Don't know was that a special setting, so sorry, but others reported removal of card did not reset as well. I suspect this was yet another issue room stewards had not yet been versed in which will be remedied for next cruise.
TravelinGert Posted November 11, 2014 #1422 Share Posted November 11, 2014 Wonderful review. Room Service - other than accuracy of order, how was quality of food, and temperature of food? Thanks Our one experience of breakfast room service was absolutely excellent, despite a difficulty with the coffee. Our room steward discovered our pot of coffee cold when pouring out a cup for me. Apparently this was due to a malfunction of the coffee pots and he had to bring me a new pot from the crew mess as it was the only hot coffee to be found. The food was delivered covered and was still quite warm. We had no difficulty with our order other than a very short wait for coffee.

Sure not a sleeping temperature. Wow….71….if that is the case it will be the first thing that Royal Caribbean has done to chase us away from the Quantum class. That is too warm for us also. If you walk your luggage off this would likely be possible. There is an elevator down, so if you line up early to be one of the first walk offs I shouldn't be surprised if you are easily out by 8:30 am. We were no where near the first walk offs and were on the sidewalk outside prior to 8:30 am. I wouldn't count on having them carry your luggage down unless you are group 1 or possibly 2. We saw the first group 1's emerge at approximately 8:15 am. There was already luggage sitting out waiting for pick up when we passed though.
