Itinerary Change- Explorer

We leave on Explorer in one week for a quick 5 night cruise. I just logged into the website to print my SetSail pass and happened to notice our itinerary has changed.

It was initially Port Canaveral, CocoCay, Nassau, At Sea, Freeport. It's now changed to a late (7:30 PM) sailaway from Pt. Canaveral, a late arrival to CoCoCay, two full days in Nassau , and Freeport.

We've had itineraries butchered because of hurricanes before, no problem whatsoever, but I can't help but feel annoyed at the change from a sea day to two full days in Nassau. I just can't imagine any logical reason for the change exactly a week before the cruise. The weather forecast is perfect, no problems with the ship (that have been posted), etc.

It's kind of annoying that they would not even notify passengers of the change. I know itinerary changes are part of cruising and I have never objected before, but there has always been a good reason and plenty of notice in the past. Very frustrated... I was already struggling with the idea of just one sea day! No sunsets at sea this trip, it looks like.

Does anybody have any ideas on what could be going on?

Just speculation on my part at this point but it sounds a bit like there may be a mechanical issue of some sort. They delay in PC could be to get items onboard to fix it. The extra time in Nassau could mean that the attempt to repair will be made there.

That is what I was thinking. Same thing just happened to the Freedom. They also spent extra time in Nassau for a propeller repair

Yeah, my thought was either repairing something that was damaged during the repositioning cruise from Cape Liberty or the propellers. I'm just still tying to wrap my head around a five night cruise with no sea day :(.

If something is damaged why aren't they fixing in in Freeport? That's where Bradford is.

Wondered that, too. When I called to C&A the rep said "Maybe there is something that needs to be repaired, that would make sense for an extended Nassau stay, since that is where she dry docks in March."

I didn't even have the energy to correct her.

I am on this cruise too. No e-mail from RCCL about this. I don't mind where we go as long as I don't have to cook or do the dishes!

I wish I had a dollar for every time someone uttered this line on CC.

can we come up with something new ? please??

.... so how many RC ships are operating right now with "propulsion issues" ?

Seems like a few ...

Explorer

Allure

Freedom

....anyone else?

and so many people on here were nailing Carnival to the cross back then... hmm.

True, however, the Royal Caribbean ships are still fully functional... not leaving passengers stranded. And to my knowledge the Explorers propulsion issues are just speculation at this point.

Fully ?? Not fully .. theyre missing ports and limping along at slower speeds .. how is that "fully functional"??

Yikes. I am taking the freedom/explorer sort of B2B---- getting off the freedom (Dec 28- Jan 4 freedom ) and getting the explorer (January 4 explorer). the same afternoon.

Wonder what our itineraries will eventually look like.

I wouldn't worry too much about your scheduled itinerary for the back to back cruise. Explorer is currently sailing on her 9 day Southern Caribbean route and based on the vessel tracking data she is on schedule. I highly doubt if there was a serious issue with the ship Royal Caribbean would have the gall to send her so far away from US Shores.

Now the million dollar question is what is forcing the itinerary change? I suspect it's a maintenance issue as well but we may never know. Why Nassau? I'd imagine it's based on scheduling as Nassau is a rather large port with the ability to easily accommodate six large cruise ships at once.

For those of you worried about Explorer's engines, pay close attention to the tracking data on Thursday, December 11th to see whether or not she leaves Labadi early. She's currently scheduled to depart at 4PM EST.

There was a comment made earlier regarding several Royal ships "limping form port to port" which is simply untrue. Explorer, Allure, and Freedom all routinely make 18+ knots which hardly is limping. I'm confident Royal Caribbean would have the foresight to take any one of it's ships out of service should they pose a serious risk as they did with Allure earlier this year.

I know there was a life boat issue last month. (when the life boat landed on the deck) It did get fixed. But do you think there are more repairs need to the lift boat etc.).

This is a current thread showing that FOS is having their itinerary modified because of these issues. Why would this be happening if the ship was routinely making 18+ knots and wasn't having operational issues ?

Only info I have is the person at RCCL I talked to on the phone earlier this week said "I see no change in itinerary." *sigh*

My biggest worry was casino, and, I was told while staying overnight at Nassau the casino is open from 7pm to 3am. So, not so bad... But, I'm bummed about the next day not being at sea.... And there better be plenty of bars open on the ship while we're in port as I got the booze package! :)

I hope the drink package works out for you. Maybe you should check on board to see if the bars will be open during the port time.

Any more info on this?

Nothing other than a passenger on the current sailing letting us know that there have been divers under the ship in Aruba or Curacao, can't remember which.

Still nothing from Royal Caribbean. And customer service says they have no idea.
