You are so right. Last cruise we had booked a JS and got upgraded to an Owner's Suite-our first! Let me tell you, 2 TVs in a room is a little silly but it certainly spoiled us. We sailed at Halloween and the ship didn't really do anything for it so we got a blankie from our room steward and watched a scary movie, cuddled up on the couch.

I believe you will find that your OS only had 1 TV, but your RFS had the 2 TVs.

We have booked several OS and always have paid for the water and didn't have two TV's. The only ship we were personally escorted off was on the Liberty. On our last cruise (Indy) they did away with free pressing. We were very disappointed with the Conceirge service. No one told us about the private beach in Labadee and the Conceirge and Diamond lounges were so full we couldn't use them. To top it off, we had a wine party in our suite and the few choices we had for appetizers were on the regular stateroom menu. I truly hope RC makes some changes.

Just returned from Allure where we were in a GS for all 3 cruises. Free pressing was offered by our cabin attendant upon embarkation for the first formal night on each cruise.

We received 2 small bottles of Evian Water plus the large bottle for each cruise.

In all of your cruises, is this the first time your itinerary included Labadee? I'm really surprised that you were not aware of Barefoot Beach on Labadee as that is a frequently discussed location here on CC.

We did receive two bottles of Evisn however the other bottles in the stateroom were for a fee. On our Indy cruise last month no free pressing. We went to labadee one other time in a balcony so we were on the regular beach. We had no idea about the private beach until our friends told us.

Hi Neighbor-we're in Lewisville...

In the past we got a bottle of evian on boarding day for free. This time it was free the whole cruise. They just kept giving us another bottle everytime we finished ours-no bev pkg, nothing. Never had a charge. The minibar guy did do inventory and we got charged for the stuff we took from there but never the water.

I did notice things like room service and maintenance requests got done right away when we were called from the suite as opposed to longer waits when we've been in a JS or D1.

We've also sailed in a RFS with just 2 of us. My wife LOVED having her own bathroom. We used the 2nd bedroom for luggage and laundry. Grandeur's wrap around balcony is nice.

We've never done Allure or Oasis or the new ships but I would love to try the Sky Lofts or some of the other new ones, including the spa jr suite which I still haven't seen pics of.

Enjoy your GS but like Michael said, you'll never be able to go back to an Oceanview on deck 2 or an interior again...

How does one get upgraded from a JS to an Owner's Suite?

[*]When should we hear from the Concierge and what form of contact will it be (phone or e-mail) email if at all. we are 50/50

[*]What are some of the general things you ask for to be in your suite upon arrival not a single thing that is not already in there. on occasion there is no ice bucket when we first get in the cabin but usually it's there by turn down. I do ask for it to be filled twice a day( i like my tap water COLD)

[*]Is having a birthday breakfast set up on our balcony pushing the limits or is that something normal not a purview of the concierge at all. you can pre order room service to deliver at a certain time, either by calling ahead, or , if you just want the basics, leaving the card outside the door the night before.

[*]We are sailing with others and have the late seating, can we just order appetizers, off the MDR menu, earlier and then meet the group at 830 (If yes what is the latest you would put in the order) not sure why you would want to do this at all. even assuming you friends will not have access to the Lounge( which has appetizers. canapés and free drinks) in their own right, appetizers from the MDR during MDR hours may take a long while to get there and you would be missing out on having them served fresh at the table. that being said, you can almost gty a cheese tray or small nibbles will be delivered to your cabin on the two formal nights.

[*]Are there any tips you can share with us

Thanks in advance

the concierge is not a Butler. they will not wait on you hand and foot. they will help you make reservations for excursions, restaurants, beach stuff( when applicable to labadee and CoCo Cay) and print out your bill for you during the week f you ask. We will sometimes ask( at the beginning of the week) for a Bridge tour, which is usually on the last sea day heading home and is limited to just a few people.

Patti,

That is the problem that I have with the RC's suite program, it is so ship-specific. We usually travel in suites and our experiences are so different depending on the ship that we are on. I would wish that there would be some consistency.

I would go so far as to say it is CONCIERGE specific. same ship, two different concierges and got distinctly different experiences.

all I really want is the dedicated elevator at the end if I were to be pressed for one thing. on GR it was great, even though the concierge had to make several trips with the lock off elevator to get us all off. but we ended up on the lowest deck in a dedicated line that went directly to the Customs agents so we weren't in the cattle call.

Thank you for the quick replies. I forgot to ask about the steaming or ironing for the formal night. I read some ships don't offer it, some do but you have to ask and some do it automatically

Do you have any info on Adventure in this regard

you must ask for it and you will pay for it unless you are high enough on the C&A tiers to have earned the free pressing. it is not a freebie perk otherwise for suites.

I have read conflicting posts about breakfast...

Some posts say if you are in a suite you can only order dinner off the MDR menu

Others say if the MDR is open, you can order room service...

I guess I will find out for sure in 8 days!

whenever the MDR is open, you may order ANYTHING from that meal's menu. mmm eggs Benedict... you do get a copy of the next day's Dinner menu the night before so you can make plans.

Here is another question... Someone said they found the robes uncomfortable, I don't really wear a robe at home...I don't believe I ever wore one with any balcony or even hotel we have stayed at... would I be out of place if I didn't wear one in the suite/balcony? they are wafflele weave and pretty...scratchy.. but are fine for opening the door first thing in am to get that plate of eggs Benedict. as for wandering around elsewhere.. really depends on whether or not other people can see into your balcony. i would never walk out there in my skivvies in port if I were facing the dock.

PS I don't mind hijacking a thread I start, it just gives me more info to read and learn about :D

ow if you were planning on going au natural on the balcony, you may get a few polite words in your ear( the balconies are on camera to watch for falling items/people)

It was offered and done for free for us on Brilliance. We're Emerald and were in an OS.

I believe you will find that your OS only had 1 TV, but your RFS had the 2 TVs.

Hi Patti

The RFS Suite on Grandeur had 2 TVs-one in the living room and a smaller one in the main bedroom.

For the Owner's Suite we were in on Splendour it wasn't the normal setup of the TV in the middle that spins around (always wanted one of those) but rather a divided room with 2 TVs-one in the bedroom section and another one in the living room.

tv.jpg

You can see the second TV in the reflection in the vanity mirror...

Not sure is all the OSs on Splendour are set up this way but ours was. Perhaps because we were right next to the Royal Suite?

Truth be told my DH doesn't normally like to try new things... Since meeting me he has tried a handful of things he really has enjoyed and a few he hasn't liked at all.

He is a lil hesitant trying escargot in front of my DS & DBiL and his son & friend... hard to tell your son to try new things while making a face when ya order it LOL

He said if we had it out on our balcony he would feel more comfortable

(I think he was kinda hoping it wouldn't be an option :D )

If free pressing is still included than someone needs to inform RC. We were told by our stateroom attendant they did away with it.

I think that it was your stateroom attendant that was giving out the wrong information. Free Pressing for the first formal night has been offered to us on all of our cruises.

I figured as much. He was pretty much useless as well as the Concierge. If it wasn't for the great friends we cruised with I would say it was the worst Owner Suite cruise experience we have ever had. To make matters worst the most expensive one.

I have found similar situations in the past. I had one stateroom attendant tell us that robes had been changed to D+. Amazing the things that some of them will come up with to get put of any extra work.

We had an attendant tell a friend of ours on Quantum that JS do not get the upgraded bathroom amenities!! That was rectified in a hurry!!:D

Patti, did you have the Gilchrest & Soames amenities on Allure?

On Adventure, we were told they were no longer available, and had something completely different, i.e, different than the Vitality type. They told us all the suites get the same amenities now.

The other side gets some points though, on our last trip the Stateroom Attendant snuck us some slippers. :)

Was Raj or Butcher the Concierge that week? We had Raj, and he was aces. Butcher was in the DL and he was super-friendly but, umm, didn't accomplish much. I believe he's moving on and that may be a factor. Also, we were in 1620 and the Stateroom Attendant claimed to be new and we were the only suite on his assignment.

Hi Everyone

I have read several threads about the concierge services and some information contradicts what others have said... This is our first GS and we are kinda lost pups, much like we were on our first cruise, with a family of frequent cruisers, who never told us anything. We missed more than we should have but still had a great time and learned on our own for our next cruise. We tend to learn something new with each cruise...

Anyways... here are our questions

We are on Adventure Feb 22 (YAY under 10 days)

  • When should we hear from the Concierge and what form of contact will it be (phone or e-mail)

  • What are some of the general things you ask for to be in your suite upon arrival

  • Is having a birthday breakfast set up on our balcony pushing the limits or is that something normal

  • We are sailing with others and have the late seating, can we just order appetizers, off the MDR menu, earlier and then meet the group at 830 (If yes what is the latest you would put in the order)

  • Are there any tips you can share with us

Thanks in advance

We had an Owners suite for the Adventure's NYE cruise and received a letter from Reno Strapp, the concierge, less than a week before the sailing date. Our friends, who were staying also on an OS didn't receive the letter. I gave them the concierge's email and they wrote him with some minor requests. The concierge's email is ad_concierge@rccl.com

We are low maintenance and don't ask for too much. But I do appreciate if the concierge can make my hair appointments for formal nights before the cruise. You can't make those appointments online and it is really nice not having to worry about going to the spa on boarding day.

You can order appetizers from the DR but keep in mind that you will have to wait probably over half hour, if not more. We also received free pressing for the first formal night.

Clarea; we received the Gilchrest & Soames amenities on the Adventure last December, great but not as good as the Bvlgari products on Celebrity's suites. ;)
