Kentchikan Posted May 25, 2016 #301 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Your ship has to stop at one "foreign" port for the casino's to be open. If you are on a ship that only stops in Hawaii the casino won't be open the entire cruise. This is why some Alaska cruises that sail out of Seattle stop in Victoria for a few hours. It is because of the Jones Act not casinos: "Simply put, because of the Jones Act, cruise ships that were not U.S. built, U.S. owned and with U.S. crews cannot travel between U.S. ports, unless they stop at a foreign port. Which means that a ship that is foreign in any way (origin, ownership, crew) ship can go roundtrip from Seattle to Alaska or San Francisco only if it stops in Canada." WupperAV Posted May 26, 2016 #302 Share Posted May 26, 2016 Nah! They probably allow drugs. Why do you people think you have to quote everyone? I read their scribble once and that's enough, don't need it repeated to me. Fell like you put us all back in Grade School.
barbpretz Posted May 26, 2016 #303 Share Posted May 26, 2016 Since this is now 2016, I hope that people will post their Princess Secrets on the 2016 thread. If people want to continue discussions from this thread that do not have to do with "secrets", that is fine. But if people are posting new "secrets" for Princess cruisers, I'm afraid that many people (including myself) will miss them since this is a 2015 thread. So please post them on the 2016 Princess Secrets thread (even if you have to repeat yourself). We don't want to miss anything! Thanks!

I believe that if you check you'll find that the correct statute is the Passenger Vessel Services Act (PVSA) not the Jones Act. The PVSA, as the name implies, covers passenger vessels, the Jones Act covers cargo ships. Tom

Pierlesscruisers Posted May 26, 2016 #306 Share Posted May 26, 2016 Thanks Tom I got my info from the internet. Inaccurate information on the internet? Who knew. ;) Naw, you must have just misquoted the internet as everything you read there is true. Except when you read that cruising isn't fun, then it is incorrect. :D There is a pretty good explanation of the PVSA on the Wikipedia site at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passenger_Vessel_Services_Act_of_1886 which does give a bit of information on what can and cannot be done concerning passenger movement. Information on the Jones Act at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merchant_Marine_Act_of_1920 provides info on that act as well as teaches you a word that you sometimes see on crossword puzzles: cabotage! ;) Yeah, I know, TMI! Have a great cruise! Tom

I would miss Ensenada if we didn't stop there on the way back from Hawaii.
WupperAV Posted May 26, 2016 #308 Share Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) Ya! Like people using destinated instead of "I'm home." How about demurrage and detention. Edited May 26, 2016 by WupperAV

Demurrage I'd not heard of but detention I had. Never heard anybody use destinated but can't figure why anybody wouldn't just say "I'm home!" Weird. WupperAV Posted May 26, 2016 #310 Share Posted May 26, 2016 Demurrage is used quite a bit in trucking and shipping. Some Maroons on Local 2 meter are always using destinated.
Sherry7641 Posted July 25, 2016 #311 Share Posted July 25, 2016 We told the bar person what sorts of tastes we liked and they made up mocktails for us that weren't listed. They were all delicious and some were very thirst quenching! This may be a dumb question, but what are mocktails? We are interested in the soft drink plus more package and noticed it included mocktails, shakes and malts.
msg74 Posted July 25, 2016 #312 Share Posted July 25, 2016 (edited) Mocktails are alcohol-free cocktails. If you've ever heard of a "Shirley Temple," you're on the right track. :) Edited July 25, 2016 by msg74

weedpindle Posted July 25, 2016 #315 Share Posted July 25, 2016 That's NOT ice cream! It looks like soft serve. (There is a HUGE difference.) Does anyone know if they serve real ice cream on any of the Princess ships? Had a Volcano on the Grand, real ice cream. Had on two other ships, but forget which ones, both real ice cream

If you've ever heard of a "Shirley Temple," you're on the right track. :) Years ago I read a recipe for an alcohol free punch and the author said at the end: P.S. It tastes better with vodka. :D If you had olive juice with an olive it would be a "dirty mock"
Montrealais Posted July 25, 2016 #317 Share Posted July 25, 2016 Question. Is a Mock-Martini a glass of cold water with an olive? Yes! And for a Mock-Gibson replace the olive with an onion :D

EDDY0827 Posted July 25, 2016 #320 Share Posted July 25, 2016 Question. Is a Mock-Martini a glass of cold water with an olive? No water or ice in a classic Martini, it's shaken with ice then strained into the glass. So technically, a mock Martini is a glass with olives, bitters are optional.;)

The soft drink and more package is great for us as we get such a variety of drinks from morning till night. Wake up to a hot chocolate, juice at breakfast and throughout the morning, soft drink midday ish, mocktails in the afternoon and evening, and end the day with another hot chocolate! perfect! Thrak Posted July 25, 2016 #322 Share Posted July 25, 2016 I did see a post on here one time where a woman said her husband was being a smart a$$ and ordered a "virgin martini". She said he waiter didn't bat an eye but just put an olive in a martini glass and handed it to him. :) Princess makes great moctails. Pina colada, strawberry daquiri, mojito (although they call the mocktail version a nohito), bloody mary, etc. They have a mocktail menu but you aren't limited to what is listed. Any mixed drink that can be made with the alcohol left out is fine. I had the soda and more package once on a shortie cruise (4 days) and it was well worth the $8.05 per day. ibfishing2 Posted July 26, 2016 #323 Share Posted July 26, 2016 It normally comes with vanilla ice cream, but you can have it made with any other flavor on the menu that evening. Looks Great
