Any insight about Todd McBain?  Like/dislike?

I have not personally sailed with Captain Todd McBain, but I did a quick search that I hope can help you out a little bit.

1. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2051245-captain-todd-mcbain/

2. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/1603863-tell-me-about-capt-todd-mcbain/

Overall, it seems that the opinion (based on a small sample size, of course) is mostly positive and that he runs a ship well.

Todd McBain is one of the best captain's we have sailed with.  He gives outstanding daily bridge reports and always added something interesting about the area.   And you can understand what he is saying.   He was very approachable and friendly.

Captain Todd McBain is a fantastic captain because the safety of his passengers and crew is his primary concern. Plus he is articulate and keeps everyone informed throughout the cruise.  I once told Princess that Captain McBain should train all their captains because he doesn't allow passenger criticism to override safety and he exudes confidence at all times.  Moreover his announcements are both professional and personable.  I have no worries when McBain is at the helm!

Has anyone sailed with Tim Stringer, whose supposed to be Captaining the Regal starting this month?

We're boarding her in a couple of weeks, and I have never heard of him before.

My all time favorite is John Paul Bryant, and a close second be Andrea Spinardi.

Love Captain Tim Stringer. He is very kind and personable and can be seen out and about on the ship. He likes to be more informative than not and personally, I like hearing announcements that he makes. Overall, would love to have him as a captain again.

Are there other captains for whom this is not true?

We should probably avoid them.

I always prefer captains who are properly licensed, and hold endorsements for the particular cruising area...
