cruz chic Posted April 20, 2015 #151 Share Posted April 20, 2015 Just finished dinner. Winds are horrible. Am I hearing sirens in the back ground? Yup.

dobiemom Posted April 20, 2015 #153 Share Posted April 20, 2015 Oh my! I got really busy at work and forgot about the sailaway. I just brought up the webcams and saw she was still in port! Lucky for me, but now I need to go back and read this thread to see why. Scheduled departure is 7:22pm PST so it's not too late. ;)

KNOT2L82SAIL Posted April 20, 2015 #155 Share Posted April 20, 2015 How horrible for the poor people wanting to start their cruise. I hope it goes smoothly and they can get that line untangled. I will try to remember and come back later for the sailaway.

sppunk Posted April 20, 2015 #164 Share Posted April 20, 2015 (edited) We had something similar on Westerdam in Seattle in 2008, but it was a fuel line that was tangled (the captain was NOT happy with the barge operator). Divers were called and we left around 1 a.m. Edited April 20, 2015 by sppunk

SJSULIBRARIAN Posted April 21, 2015 #169 Share Posted April 21, 2015 I heard - divers just arrived - they will be going into the water in 20 minutes and will report when they have entered the water.
c-legs Posted April 21, 2015 #170 Share Posted April 21, 2015 (edited)
Starboard propulsion issue on Noordam... mooring line tangled below water line.
As she's moored portside , and a line got tangled in the pod propulsion mechanism,it would be aft/port. As someone else said, until ''all lines on deck cleared'' is confirmed, the bridge would not engage the pods beyond ''idling'' ( which they would have been for ~~ 20 minutes before expected sailaway, as the chief engineer would put one or two engines on line at that time). If one line ended up under and tangled up with the pod...either the high wind caused a rather severe backwash shoving the line in question ''off course''and under the hull...or someone on the bridge turned the pods up a weebit too soon... A messy ''incident''....but it happens, albeit very rarely. Witnessed a similar one here in Vancouver, but with a regular shaft/rudder/prop propulsion. Takes a while to free up the whole tangled mess...THEN you have to test the props....in the case here, one was a bit bent. Those lines are solid !!! rkacruiser Posted April 21, 2015 #175 Share Posted April 21, 2015 Good news! Divers are out of the water; they were not in for very long. And, the Bridge has given the Harbormaster a 60 minute departure notice. Sounds like no damage was discovered and that all is OK.
