Smoking is not allowed on balconies. It is allowed in the humidor (cigars and pipes preferably here), on the starboard side of the pool deck, ditto outside at the back of the Panorama and the outside back of the Terrace.

On the current Whisper voyages I have only seen one guest get annoyed and move away.

It is not a problem!

That would be M & L.

Yes it was. Sad isn't it! While the passengers were able to take a step back and see it for what it was (boorish behavior), the crew was forced to take care that these people's table wasn't tampered with nor were their monogramed placemat/towels thrown overboard!

Frankly, I just don't get it!

Thanks - the difference is that the only indoor smoking is in a special lounge - I think the same applies to Regent - whereas sadly at present Seabourn (the favourite line of many of us) does allow it after 8 p.m. on one side of one bar, and of course from balconies. I am really looking forward to meeting this M and L! I assume that they were actually spending their day in a 'legal' smoking area.

Seabourn have already reduced smoking areas a lot; they just need the final push. Most non-smokers do not mind a special lounge being provided, or a couple of outdoor areas.

..... and let us not forget ... we are all different .... and some of us of an aritistic temperament and of high standards find Kariokki (sic) even more offensive than smoking.

Who likes to hear others shouting at the tops of their voices "I will survive" on a bleedin' boat out on the high seas ... or even more bizarrely on a 6* cruise lines "I (duh ... duh ... daaaarh ....) ..I who have nothing ......".

:D

Actually there is another difference. I can't speak about the triplets that are no longer in the fleet, but on the remaining Seabourn ships, smoking isn't allowed on the pool deck. It's allowed in a small area starboard on deck 9, by the Sky bar, but not on the actual pool deck.

That said, this thread isn't about Seabourn's smoking policy.

Nice attempt by some to deflect attention away from the topic. Which is Silver Shadow has failed CDC inspection, yet again.

Apologies - should not have joined in re smoking. I am a bit horrified about the inspection tales, though.

My response in case Gourmet Gal's question is directed to me.

From a scale of 1(poor) to 10(excellent)

Overall: 8

Silver box: 2

Travel ticket/journal: 8

Food: 2

Alcohol: 8

La Champagne: 10

Suite: 9 (and it was just a veranda suite)

Butler: 7

Free laundry: 10

Entertainment: 9 (enjoyed even though the same 6 performers each night)

Lecturers: 9

Spa: 10

Shopping: 7

Staff: 9 (a wee bit too much during meals)(1 really nasty casino worker)

Decor: 8

Cleanliness (visible to passengers): 10. Immaculate. Everywhere.

Crowds: None. Anywhere.

Excursion organization: 10

Embarkation/disembarkation: 10

My next cruise: Seabourn. I believe the food quality, taste etc., can be much better.

But then taste is very subjective.

In the 3 weeks before embarking on our recent Silver Cloud voyage we dined at 1 3 Michelin starred restaurant and 3 2 star Michelin restaurants.I would rate the taste of food in the main dining room at 6 so above average which I would score 5.

As well the food will also vary according to the particular chef on that voyage.

Of course the main thing I want to see on a cruise is no outbreak of food associated disease.Several ships which score 100 on inspection hve had such outbreaks. Not excusing the failed inspections but those scores are only part of the evidence you need to consider.

Food is definitely subjective. I have high quality restaurants at every price point in NYC, so sometimes it's challenging eating in other venues. I did not find the food on the Shadow particularly good. It was edible.

Based on the title of this thread, it should be locked. It does not represent current situations on board any SS vessel. To have it called forward all the time, is just plain wrong. CC monitor please act.

The failed inspection was relatively recent and not the first one the ship failed in the past few years. It appears there's at least the start of a pattern with food on that ship (imo its had a problem with food since at least 2009) and is something future cruisers should be able to consider.

Nit Picking inspections. After a failed inspection, the inspectors are going to find anything they can to shore up the original assessments.

I have sailed on Shadow twice since the original food handling issue. There was no evidence that the problem continued past the inspection. The food was terrific and served hot. All conditions appeared to be sanitary.

FYI, I use to cruise another line and was a victim to Norovirus three times. The fewer number of passengers on a SS ship lessens your risk of being exposed to

unsanitary conditions in all areas where passengers are present. To my knowledge, there has never been any significant illness or outbreak of Norovirus on any SS vessel.

I truly believe that this extended "Jump on board" assessment doesn't represent the SS product.

Failed inspections by neutrals need respect and action by SS to correct as appropriate. We should not let our own excellent impressions of SS override problems we may not be aware of .The corrections made resulting from failed inspections should benefit all future clients.Lets face it this failed Shadow inspection is the second occurrence in a short space of time.Lets hope it's the last!

Yes, nit picking inspections should be outlawed and this thread should be removed so new people never learn about two failed inspections of Shadow and one of Discoverer. Enjoy your poison.

it seems extraordinary that anyone would seriously suggest that a thread should be censored by thread deletion in case someone might be better informed about SS's previous problems. It also seems a bit rude about the intelligence of others who are quite able to rationalise the context and weight they should give to these issues. Presumably those that suggest deletion think they are able to judge these things but seek to protect others who they feel are a bit dim. I am perplexed as to what the motives are of anyone who wants new people who come here to find more genuinely unbiased views and information about SS would seek to prevent them finding out about these continued problems SS seems to have. Why?

If anyone feels that these inspections give a false impression they are perfectly able to express the opinion and state convincingly why.

Wouldn't it make better common sense for those that didn't like people knowing about this past issue, to simply stop nudging the thread up the list by posting on it?

There are those who simply enjoy undermining a product. It happens on all the boards. The inspection did fail. It happened. Corrective action was taken. The second inspection scored low but the issues were relatively minor.

My suggestion that the thread be lock was for the sole purpose to encourage people to start their own thread regarding their experiences on Shadow. Someone saying the food wasn't to their tastes or standards, certainly doesn't indicate it was mishandled.

P.S. I don't drink Kool Aid........too much sugar :) If I look close enough, I can see fault in many things, I just choose not to focus in or obsess.
