new silver muse

Presumably this is going to effect the rest of the fleet for a while whilst some of the best and most experienced staff are moved from other ships to Muse to train and manage inexperienced staf. Presumably this means the staff remaining might be "moved up" to cover for them?

The net effect might be unless they are purposefully overstaffed on each ship immediately and for some time before Muse is brought online, then a combination of less and more inexperienced and junior staff will be managing the remaining fleet. Probably only a small issue but might be noticed by some who are more fixated and fret about who in particular is staffing the ship on their next cruise.

Interesting that Silversea has just added deck 4 to the Muse's deck plan drawings today. Now we see two more major restaurants with bars, and two more small restaurants. Now it is more complete. However, where is the doctor and mandatory clinic with adequate emergency facilities?

Now we think we can understand why the Muse is only 8.7% longer than the Spirit, while its tonnage (internal volume) is 13% larger. Deck 10 of the Muse (its pool deck) is well utilized while deck 10 of the Spirit (its deck above its pool) is half empty. Deck 11 of the Muse (its above pool deck, is semi-covered, kind of like the Spirit's deck 10), while deck 11 of the Spirit contains only the Silver suites in front. So the upper decks of the Muse is much better utilized than the Spirit.

I'd guess it has more to do with the fact the the length all appears to have been added in the area of the ship that has the largest cross sectional area.

I don't see the measurements, but the jogging track looks similar to the spirit.

And it almost looks as if the spirit has been slightly rearranged for the Muse.

There is no stars supper club on the muse, instead a TBA restaurant.

The MDR has been split into two dining venues, and the French and Japanese restaurant are still there.

There is an additional whirlpool on the Muse at the stern.

On the spirit, hot rocks was on the level above the pool grill, sometimes spilling over into the lower poll, deck. On the Muse, hot rocks is above the grill, and the newer pizza restaurant is where the grill area is.

When I told DH about the childrens room, he asked if they had their own pool.

As for the handicapped accessible suites, they have been removed from deck 5 mid ships

On the spirit, and put on deck four in the bow on the Muse. Honestly not very tranquil area if you are in a wheelchair and it's rough.

There is still space unaccounted for on the Muse.

While the boutique is still there, it's far smaller on the Muse. However, who knows if this deck plan for the Muse is to scale.

OK, got talked into a back-to-back cruise on the new ship and starting looking at the deck plan. I know its preliminary but can’t figure out why increase the bar area 350% and what is going to occupy that large area at the stern, on the pool deck?

I see a lot are slamming the kid’s room, don’t have any small kids myself any more. But do like there is a room they can hang out and play games in, other than the using the card room and tables on the pool deck.

Also wondering; since it will probably be coming out of one kitchen, if you will be able to choose from more than one restaurant for dining in you room? Just have to wait, I guess…

The problem with the Children's Room is that its inclusion shows that Silversea will be marketing the Muse to families, unlike the rest of the fleet. And since there is only one real pool, then that pool will in effect be the kid's pool by default. No peace and quiet around the pool on the Muse.

I would like to make my position clear at the start. I DO NOT like to go on holiday with other people's children. Too often such children have taken the edge of an enjoyable holiday.

With regard to the physical children's facilities included in the Muse's deck plans, which has attracted a lot of unwelcome comment on this thread, SS cannot win.

For some time SS has provided a children's hostess on some voyages but with no bespoke venue in which to hold any activities. On a separate thread some months ago, Mayflower remarked adversely on their number and visibility during a summer Med cruise.

At least the Muse will have somewhere to corral the "little blighters", thereby hopefully providing some tranquility for the rest of those on board.

SS may well market the provision of kids facilities to attract a new client base. The lack of such marketing, has previously, not stopped parents bringing their children onboard already.

Well behaved kids, those seen and not heard, are not usually an issue. Sadly this breed tend to be very much in the minority these days. What happened to the word "discipline"?!

Kindest regards

As many know to their cost it only takes one kid to ruin the pool area ... and for that matter many other areas of a boat. And several playing together .... well ....

The problem with this kids room is that it has consequences. In the old days many sensible people contemplating a cruise with their kids on an SS ship, might well having realised from reading the brochures that there was a lack of specific kiddy welcome, and also the lack of devoted spaces and facilities on any of the ships - and they therefore might call their TA and ask. They would have then been told by many sensible TA's that there are more suitable ships and cruises for them and that their kids would be bored and glared at and made to feel unwelcome by people like me when they run amok and spoil the peace.

Now they will be told that they are so welcome that SS have actually sacrificed the casino for their gambling parents in favour of a playroom for their noisy kids instead and they are now cherished and welcomed. That is the issue.

They will now have a board in the MDR with suite numbers and loudpseaker announcements. "Will the passengers from Suite 805 please return to their suite where little Johny is screamin' it's bleedin' head off. Followed by the sequined walk of shame.

:D

I'm still on the SS mailing lists for email and post, so I've been following the Muse announcements quite closely.

I thought the interiors that we've seen so far looked very pleasant, and I was interested in the restaurant concepts. However, seeing the kid's room changed all of my positive thoughts.

I cruised with kids on SS and mine were in the seen and not heard category and over 10. We went in eyes fully open knowing that there were no facilities, that around the pool they were expected to relax and read a book. Time ashore was for them to run it off, hence booking active tours like cycling and kayaking.

The muse plans have me worried. All 3 rd occupancy are in undesirable areas (we now travel as 3 adults) and/or have an interconnecting door.

IME it's not where the kids are corralled it's what happens when they are let loose with their families, who have put them in the corral for "me time" and forget that the me time has stopped in the dining areas and pool space.

A favourite island of mine which was kids free has just started family time... The reviews from other guests are less than glowing.....complaining about noisy children, and then this from a guest with kids My 7 yo loved it, she splashes in excitement yelling

Exactly, Mrs Waldo.

There may be a room with cages ;) and serious soundproofing, but kids like the pool, they like the hot tubs, they like to run around screaming down the corridors and in the dining venues.

I've seen and heard all of that on both SS and SB.

I have no issue with well behaved kids aged about 12 and above. It's poorly supervised younger ones who can spoil the ambience for everyone else.

And let's face it the kids aren't at fault for wanting to be children. Parents need to be more considerate when their kids are misbehaving.

Anyone who has looked at the Muse's initial itineraries, will note, as we have commented elsewhere, that the cruises listed are 6703, 6705 (maiden) and 6706 (Inaugural Venetian Society cruise).

Perhaps the mystery of the missing voyage 6704 was revealed when I saw a Reader Offer promotion for a cruise on the Muse sailing April 20th 2017, disembarking in Monte Carlo on May 3rd 2017. Whether this means Reader Offer have chartered the entire ship for voyage 6704 is interesting?

It would appear therefore that the christening is scheduled for sometime between April 18 -20th, the former when we disembark voyage 6703 and the latter the sail date for 6704.

Acording to the SS website, the April 20 - May 3 voyage is #6705. Wouldn't 6704 be the special 3 day add on for the WC?
